My school blazer used to look like that - I’d stuff it in the top of my locker rolled into a ball all week and pull it out every Friday morning for chapel 🤣

But without stiff poses, we risk scuffing the bottoms of our definitely-not-inferior-quality shoes, or revealing that the tailors we've 'hyped' can't actually cut to allow arm movement... :rolleyes:

The reason some don't wear their suits, of course, is because their social circles are not of the suit-wearing variety. They feel awkward in public because of affinity to the badly-dressed mobs of people, not because of anything wrong with their attire.

Per Adolf Loos (Austrian architect/mens clothing writer), who arrived at this same conclusion in 1898:

"Well dressed, what does that actually mean? It means to be correctly dressed.

Correctly dressed! It is as if with these words I have revealed a secret that up till now has cloaked our perception of fashion. Words like lovely, chic, elegant, fetching, and snappy are but vain attempts to provide explanatory terms for fashion. But this is not at all the point. It is all about being dressed in an inconspicuous manner. A red tailcoat stands out in a ballroom. Therefore red tails are not fashionable in a ballroom. A top hat stands out on the ice rink, therefore it is unfashionable to wear while ice-skating. Anything conspicuous in high society is considered crude.

This basic principal, however cannot be applied everywhere. A coat that hardly would be noticed in Hyde Park could certainly be conspicuous in Peking, in Zanzibar, and in front of St. Stephens Cathedral in Vienna. It looks very European. One simply cannot expect a person from a culturally advanced society to dress Chinese in China, African in Zanzibar and Viennese in Vienna! Therefore the previous statement needs to be qualified: in order to be well-dressed one should not be conspicuous within the centre of one's own culture.

Currently the centre of Western culture is London. As London is quite large, it could quite well be the case that, during a walk, one could find oneself in areas where one would appear to be quite conspicuous. Strictly speaking, one would have to change one's coat from street to street. This is impossible.

Now that we have established the basic premise and considered all eventualities we can formulate the following conclusion: an article of clothing is modern, when it is possible to wear it in one's native cultural environment at a certain occasion in the best society and it does not attract any unwarranted attention."
