so are you saying the below three people can't afford a nautilus?

I suppose it's like all the Seiko dive watch wearers who are too poor for a sub..?

I actually don't mind the Aquanaut in isolation, but I always see it as a weird variation of the classic nautilus design.

Just been reading the Rolex forum. Jesus, its worse than a clothing forum, but not quite as bad as a Hi-Fi one...

Now, they really are mad...

...chuckles...

It was particularly awful in the 2000s, full of new money and flash harries who equated owning a Rolex with having arrived. As it happens, from that leaked conversation, so did Nicolas Sarkozy.

Buckers, there's nothing wrong with showing that you've arrived, its showing that you've just arrived that's a problem.

Rolex, historically are the watch choice of old money, still are. They just avoid the sports watches and buy the plainer ones like the Date-Just or the OP.

New money buys stuff like Panerai, Hublot and the like...

There are several Rolexs that signify the arrival was so recent you can still hear the engine ticking as it cools.

Hublot, I'm not sure the car has even stopped yet...

I think you're right, bi-metal GMT's being one...;)

One of my favourite terms I've learned from The Rolex Forum (TRF) is: Wrist Presence.

'...my Casio S&M69BJLBTQ++ has awesome wrist presence and has been my grail watch since. like, before my balls dropped and my voice broke...I love it soooooo much that I recently flipped it for a Timex manual wind...'

Or something like that, or perhaps not...

Black date/no date Sub? Black GMT...Explorer II...?

Not keen of the 'tona, as I can take or leave chronos with a few exceptions.

I'm definitely not a Daytona fan. Nothing wrong with a Sub, other than ubiquity.

Rolex in general is not my milieu, but I've thought of getting one for work when I have to deal with customers and suppliers. Lotta average white motherfuckers love that shit.

May I suggest the white gold GMT coke bezel thing? Now, that's a watch, with REAL wrist presence...

...or maybe a Omega Speedmaster Snoopy...?

This is the phrase they use when they want to justify the wearing of gigantic watches (42mm and above) instead of traditionally sized models.

Its a crazy old world these forums....

I think they would make for an interesting psychological study of the male psyche, but I'm not sure that the person undertaking the study would come out the other side...

I got talking to a colleague last night, who turned out to be a real watch "aficionado". He had a gold Patek moon phase - don't ask me the exact model I have no idea, except he said he bought it with a generous redundancy in the early 2000s. It was also caked in so much dirt and dead skin you could hardly open the officer's case back.

This colleague also has strong opinions about hi-fi, and a penchant for never tucking his shirt in over his enormous gut. He told me his other watches were mostly Raymond Weils.

I guess we will soon find out who his favourite child is when he dies of his next heart attack and passes his watches on to his two sons.

I do like the Milgauss. But it's all academic really, if I ever get a Rolex it's gonna be the new Yachtmaster in platinum

The Milgauss is one of the most attractive Rolexes. Most can't get past the second hand though. I like it.

My own preference was for the white one though, even though all four models are attractive. Its not been a big seller, relatively speaking.

The Yachtmaster has a fantastic movement. However, again, not a big seller.

The thing about the Milgauss, is aesthically, it's basically identical to the Omega Aqua Terra, which I have.

I have an affinity for the Yachtmaster. Probably because I'm a yachtie. Or maybe because I'm halfway into a bottle of gin...

I like the Aqua Terra Gauss, the yellow and black seconds hand reminds me of he safety hatching stripes you see on factory floors. Which is of course the point.

A technically interesting watch too.

You have got me thinking about which Rolexs would be considered the least gauche and most classic.
I'm not sure which is making me ROFLOL - that there might be a pRole-X not gauche ...........or the fact that something has got doghouse "thinking"

I don't recall being in Sydney at all.
