So are they still super-delicate hand-wash-only things that turn to lint in a washing machine? The one pair that I had was also super long, like mid-knee. I'd love to think these issues have been resolved.

They're based in Turkey, so that might not get hit with customs like the US. Good prices too. Does anyone have experience with them?
 
I have a lot of Viccel socks used to be only $12 aud or so shipped free - we don't have customs or GST (VAT) on orders under $1,000. But its about 3 years or so since I ordered any. So they are all holding up well. Although their initial merino socks did get heel and toe holes easily. I just darned mine with strong wool at heel and toe and they are fine. They've since stopped making them for that reason. A real pity because they had the great patterns, mainly herringbone I loved and colours. I found their initial fine dress socks a bit thin for me - it didn't seem to wear them out faster but I just didn't like them that thin as a personal preference. So I order all winter weight now. Their cotton ones are good too. I like their OTC as its true OTC. Looong socks - just how I like em. And they come in proper foot sizes - they aren't just long tubes that "fit all sizes"

Not everyone likes them but for me they are great. Same as with all my clothing though I'm not hard on socks.

As a bonus the owner Kamel - I think is his name - is personable and fluent in English and delight to correspond with. and the wrapping has the slogan something like "Happy Feet - Happy People" and it always makes me smile as it isn't a slick marketing dept slogan..

It really depends on how much nylon there is. Added for strength, maintaining shape and actually dries quicker. I have Pantherella 100% wool and 90/10 wool nylon. No discernible difference in moisture absorption but they do keep their shape better.
 
I bought three pairs of Venazai socks. 70% wool 30% silk. I never knew socks could be so comfortable.
 


I think the cashmere silks and cashmere socks are 125. Basics are 65, I got them from a local store in Kansas City.
 
My order of Viccel socks has arrived, and I'm very happy! I ordered a bunch of cotton socks in the winter weight, and one wool/silk mix one. They fit great, the cotton is pretty thick, so less likely to get holes, and the colours are nice. The only exception is the burgundy I ordered, which is more towards red than I had expected. Anyways, still very good value for money!

Yesterday I saw somebody in that bland business casual office look, with the mandatory black Aldo-looking square-toed venetian loafers. Anyway, the important thing is that he seemed to be wearing black athletic socks that came just above the ankle.
I shouldn't need to say this, but don't wear ankle socks or athletic socks with dress shoes.

How pissed off would you be if you bought those and they got holes in them after a month?
 
That's why they come in the cedar display box. To ward off moths and so you can show them to your friends. Must only be for 30 seconds or the air will rot them. A shame really, before climate change you could show them off for at least a minute.

Indeed it is quite clear that you don't wear any socks with dress shoes. I hope he had high-watered his pantaloons so that you could see his ankles(and socks) in all their glory. He is almost Pitti ready.
 
Well, some of my Viccel socks have holes in them after 2-3 wears...and they're the heavyweight ones.

I noticed upthread you mentioned Bresciani, which are literally some of the wimpiest socks ever. How do those Viccel compare weight wise? I'd recommend Marcoliani. I get years of use out of their OTCs. Bresciani get holes in about 2 wears.

Yep, pretty much. I do walk a lot though, about 1-2 hours a day.

The heavy weight ones are at least 3 times as heavy as Bresciani. They look and feel like very sturdy socks...but they aren't.

As good as it gets. I have a wider than average forefoot. The guys at G&G said RTW will always be a little tight in the toebox for me.

The holes are near the big and pinky toes, and inside and outside ankle, just above where the shoes ends.
 
Monkey, you do seem to have an unusual problem.
Must have something to do with you. I mean that as either your feet, way of walking, gait, shoes, or amount of ks you walk or something. I've never really heard of someone having so much difficulty.
 
Are we talking about loafers here, because I would not be surprised at all if fluffy socks were eaten through after a few wears of substantial walking with non-laced shoes.
