Can we make fun of Mercedes Blutec or whatever it is called, their diesel with the big urea tank for emissions that gives you like ten starts after the light goes on to "get thee to the dealership for more pee-water for clean air" before you need a tow?

Can't you just quietly fill it up with your own pee water?

I dunno. At least for North America, MB realized that their customers could not find the hood release levers and hence the current system. My presumption is that it's something like the BMW oil service light where you still need some proprietary gizmo to reset the electric nanny.

My first car had no synchro on first - I had the option of buying one and fitting it to the box but the guy selling it wanted something ridiculous like $500 which was about half the value of the car. Then there was the time the clutch cable failed altogether and I had to drive the thing home in second. And then one time the starter motor failed so I was crank starting it for a few months there. Combined with the total lack of assisted steering I got more jacked than Pauly Chase.
Can I subvert this thread into one on prior automotive woes? I recall that another fun part of a snapped clutch cable is a) starting in gear with foot on the gas to not stall out, and b) cutting the ignition anytime you wanted to stop.
On the flipside, I had a sticky throttle cable once, and thank God I had the clutch pedal to disconnect the drivetrain. I became practiced at having the throttle catch, releasing the clutch, having the unloaded engine whir up to redline while I cut the ignition and restarted the car. It was a rather exhausting and embarrassing routine.

I just blew nearly two rounds of dressed well forum funding on Uber yesterday. Perhaps I should buy a car - but then I have to be sober enough to drive it. Hmm...
