Disagreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

Disagreeable because of the context. It was over 40C and over 90% humidity in Kyoto. There's no way he wore that suit and tie longer than the 15 minutes required for the photo shoot before he was completely drenched. It's fake and inauthentic. Everyone else wears shorts and short sleeve tees and even then doesn't spend much time outside during the day because of the heat.

Theres such a thing as a 90s party?

On the upside I suppose Nirvana, Blur, Prince and Michael Jackson were around - on the downside everything else and at the bottom of the pit - Oasis.

REM were on a roll as well in the early 90s. Haven't dated to well now, but there were good at the time. And remember those MTV Unplugged sets? Most of them were dire. Neil Young's and Bruce Springsteen's stand out as the worse performances of their careers.

Oasis were darlings of the tabloid press mid-90s. They were obsessed with them for about two years.

Then there was all that Britpop trying to reinvent the UK and London as swinging once again. It worked for sometime, especially for Tony Blair. The Union Jack re-emerged as a fashion symbol and has been with us ever since. You still see girls sporting Union Jack flags and T-shirts. We won't see London swinging again that's for sure.

Very retro...

The monochrome look was popular, the influence of Reservoir Dogs...

Indeed it was, especially ties that matched your shirt exactly. Remember that? Awful.

That may explain why his hair looks like he has a tub of Brylcream on it.

.
REM are OK - I love that Man on The Moon still.
Oasis were something that never made any sense outside of UK.
edit: I'm not sure they made much sense inside UK but its what I hear people who should know say.

Oasis, were Shit with a great, big, CAPITAL 'S'.

McLaren had them sussed when he said they were nth-rate Beatles clones and McLaren knew a fake when he saw one, after all, it takes one to know one as they say...

I liked REM, good band, their 80s stuff was the best IMO...

Tone-on-tone as its known in the biz...with emphasis on the word BIZ...

The Regis Philbin look. He made the shirt and tie in the same colour look very popular when he was constantly on the box hosting the Millionaire game show.

Even though we made this, I still don't like it. Terrible cloth (Dashing Tweeds) and even more terrible colour (swipe for the full "disagreeable" experience):

It's the neighbour's wedge of a wall between 2 and 10 inches beyond the patio door that concerns me. Is that some weird urban hipster architectural quality I am missing be half witted living in the suburbs? Where does the light come in from such a glass construction and where does one sit out in the day light?

I've been tempted by some of Dashing Tweeds RTW stuff, but everyone warns me off. Are they really that bad?

Or, if you watch more critically acclaimed shows, Frasier.

I'll just leave these here.

I can't find a pic but I remember Benny Hill used to wear a tie and shirt in the same fabric - as a joke - then it caught on.

Funny but iirc benny hill, Siiiimon Deee and My Cocaine all worked together on the Italian Job. Not sure who was taking the piss out of whom with the matching shirts and ties.

I always equate The Italian Job as the last breath of the swinging sixties. It was all sadly, downhill from there on in....

When a TopTop™Influencer calls a bath robe a cardigan it's a cardigan.

It's the right length for a really fit and attractive lady mind you. I can see her now coming out of the shower into the hotel room. Must have been some mix-up in the North Korean....I mean Chinese/Italian manufacturer with the labels.
