Different strokes, different folks, but the guys who pursue it to project a lifestyle (real or otherwise) are the saddest of the bunch.Proof - if any was ever needed - that for a lot of these people it has nothing to do with ‘hobbyists’ discussing the intricacies of clothing and the endless hunt for perfection, it’s really all about ‘look at me you plebs, look at how much wealth I’ve accrued and how much better I am than you!’
It’s possible. Time will tell. But on the other hand it’s not out of the question that these are just people who despite having an enviable amount of disposable income, still have a huge streak of insecurity and need to get affirmation - what better way in this day and age to seek that from (adoring) strangers on the internet. QF that other fella in sausage suits with the Bentley and identical twin kids showing off his wealthy acquisitions at every opportunity.Actually I think Alan Bee is trying to set up some sort of bespoke/mtm business. This is all just marketing bs. Not very different than Ralph Lauren or any of these lifestyle brands, just significantly less subtle and tasteful. Closer to Mararo. If you are living that life, there is no need or desire to broadcast it to a bunch of internet clothing nerds unless you want to make some money off of them.

There's like 4 tiers of #menswear influencers on the gram right now.
Shit tier shills: Poor fits, only shill for bottom of the barrel stuff. These are the bloggers that will rave about the latest $150 kickstarter shoes and suits, and will write glowing reviews about those $25 MTM shirts. Just terrible. But they cater to the absolute beginners. And will also mix it up with your run-of-the-mill inspirational #entrepreneurlifestyle BS.
Mediocre mid-level shills: The shills that will mostly post about your entry-level / mid level stuff. Suitsupply suits, Allan Edmon / Carmina / Meermin shoes. They seem to be genuinely interested in the clothes, and are usually what one can call "beginner experts". Pretty bland stuff. Probably junior analysts for some bulge bracket bank, or biglaw entry-level nobody.
Competent #Menswear prostitutes: The people you guys love to hate. Lots of followers, enjoy expensive clothes...but will also sell their body to the highest bidder. Some fits are very good, other fits are piss - doesn't mater - they write rave reviews about everything they're getting paid to wear. They seem to have a fetish for everything hand-made. Their blogs / IG profiles / websites probably provide a nice income. What they do, professionally speaking, is a total crap shoot. But a ton seem to have their background from the same ol' Finance / Management Consulting / Law firms / Tech consultants. Probably went to good schools as well.
The unicorns: The rare and elusive no-nonsense, no-shill, no-hashtag posters that enjoy the good life and immaculate outfits. They also own nice cars and nice properties, unlike the posers above. Probably work in the same industries, or on the boutique side of things.
Dreamspace, well done. Best iGent phenomenon analysis ever. And, I believe, the first ever.
And hopefully the last.
Also, if I may just add my contribution to the magnum opus, I put it to you that most of the shit tier shills seem to be Hispanic Americans. Why?

New money still gloats but gloats poorly. Old money either doesn’t gloat or subtly gloats (as a way to gloat while simulataneously demonstrating their superiority over new money).
I had the unfortunate fate to grow up as part of an upper middle class striving family (fortunately, both my parents grew up poor so we never pursued any class driven consumption patterns) but surrounded by old money types. The way in which they demonstrate their class status to external audiences is socialized at a young age.
I’m glad I didn’t grow up poor, but ceteris paribus, I think successful individuals (and by success, I mean simply being middle or upper middle class) that grew up poor tend to be better people as a result.
Christ that sounds nightmarish. My general schtick aside, that really, truly sounds horrendous. My parents moved into the neighborhood I was raised in to avoid that sort of place; it’s a distaste I inherited. Christ on the cross, subdivisions filled to the brim with cookie cutter mansions. I get that for some people such a community had its appeal. Maybe you have a large family and it’s almost a necessity. Otherwise, gross. Just gross. You have unforgivably poor taste in the most significant financial decision of your life, so I assume that same poor taste carries over into any other aspect of your life of substance. You watch the Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. You watch TV at least two hours a night. You take vacations to Vegas regularly. Cancun or a cruise once a year. You’ve been to Europe once, and once was enough for you. You read Grisham novels on airplanes but will go to James Patterson in a pinch. You eat at Ruth Chris And PF Chang’s regularly. You don’t have a single friend who listens to classical music. You watch less than five foreign films a year. You are a boor and a philistine.Related, I've taken to ribbing a buddy of mine his street is Upper Middle Class Utopia. His neighbors all have golf carts, live in Faux Craftsman new builds costing 650k or so, drink Bud Light in the driveway, drive luxury SUVs and vote Trump reliably. One is "considering" a Rolex.
Every time he texts me now he refers to it as Utopia Ave. Olo.
Who deals with salespeople? Do they even exist anymore?
Why? I was hoping for a list of examples in each category.

Some dude from Hispanic Americawhat is exactly an Hispanic American?

The only exceptions to this characterization have with been minority-Americans or Mormon, though in the case of the Mormon family I suspect it was about accommodating a large family.
Fucking McMansion subdivisions. I hope my vitriol was palatable to everyone. It’s one of my little indulgences.

Interesting observations. Some people like new build estate homes, as they imagine they will have less maintenance issues. They won’t be near public transport(or town centres) but people don’t seem to use that in the USA. ‘Big Bang theory’ is not my cup of tea but I did not know it was considered infra dig. Vegas has no appeal but I would consider Reno as a way into some of the nearby ski resorts in the same way as South Lake Tahoe.Christ that sounds nightmarish. Perchance you don't like suburban living?
As an Hispanic American, this is a good question. I don’t know if most, or even many, are Hispanic Americans, but they are certainly over-represented.
I unload an almost verbatim rant on pitiful suburbanites at least biweekly.
Urban conurbations are all very well if you're single, looking to score or a barren spinster. I don't understand the allure after that. There are of course exceptions, I wouldn't want to live in the suburbs of Rio for instance. But in general so many things are so much better and yes, nicer here: safe to let the kids play out with other kids, tree lined avenues, houses with driveways and garages, bigger bang for your buck as regards living space, proper gardens, don't have to worry about schools, parking, can access the motorway in a matter of minutes instead of the 20 sets of lights stuck on red to get out of the city, decent supermarkets with car park space, etc, etc.
I have noticed that those chums of mine who remain in the city, most of them childless, with a couple of exceptions, have a condescending attitude towards the allure of the suburbs and remain convinced that a Hague postal code and address will somehow give them an edge in work and leisure.
