Disagreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

Actually it's Chinese sweat shop labour. Just go to Florence and you will see gaggles and throngs of Chinese ladies all around the tourist and artistic heritage sites. I actually thought they were all fine art students, but my colleagues corrected me in that they're all on the annual day out from the factory.

Ditto in Naples. Much of the trade is run by the Camorra. But the Crompers of this world think the sun shines out of Naples's arse.

I've owned G&H made in England, and made in Italy (RTW) by Sartoria Santandrea. Liked the last one tbh.

The cheap and medium line were garbage though. Decent construction (by Lardini), but horrendous cuts.

Chester Barrie makes a very British RTW cut for reasonable money.

G&H use to spot on for RTW throughout the 90s, lots of UK manufacture and high quality. Even when they first went online they had some great stuff, the first buck-shot brogues for example. Now that Trinity Group have them there's a lot of pretty awful tat and they're very marketing themselves to young professionals on the way up. Their online stuff is extremely staid to my eyes. The shirts I bought in their sale last August in Chester were pretty ropey, but to be fair they were only GBP 40 a go. The jackets were GBP 150 and absolutely third rate, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Expensive stuff was okay, I bought a very decent black belt for around GBP 225.

The problem with the Chester branch is the staff, snotty nosed, clueless little wankers. You'd think they were wearing their bespoke offerings rather than the too-tight RTW they are...

So, Kanye has nothing with classic menswear, but there's no denying that he's incredibly influential on people. The man single-handedly brought back the cammel-hair coat, which spread to the menswear scene. Everything the man wears instantly becomes popular among the street-wear folks.

Let's just hope that he doesn't bring back the abomination that is the notch-lapel DB jacket. Those things died with the 80's / 90's, and do not need any resurrection.

Very prophetic post. This is right up there with your 4 levels of the instagram menswear influence game.

Actually I have Chester on my itinerary for my BIG EU/GB Tour this year.

All the good old IVY OCBDs have the button at the back 30% of cuff. Brookes Bros etc.

So...... they are English?

They could be Welsh, the border is very close.

Actually I have Chester on my itinerary for my BIG EU/GB Tour this year.

And well worth a visit for a walk around the Roman walls and the medieval rows. Of course Chester's glory days when Americans were in abundance and the shopping was superb is long gone. But I like this less busy Chester. Back in my grandfather's day it was known as the city of the 3 P's: Pride, Poverty & Prostitution.

Chester is lovely in Summer, especially down on the Dee, nice when the racing is on at the Roodee too, Cheshire's finest out...

Was in York last Friday, lovely place, visited the Minster and the National [Railway] Museum. Had a nice chat to the fitters refurbishing the Sir Nigel Gresley.

Late 80s and throughout the 90s you could be guaranteed a couple of excellent days out in the County Stand in one of the supplier's boxes. I even took my grandad once and the NDT company who was laying it on even gave one hundred pounds to everyone to bet on the horses. You couldn't get away with that these days. It use to be great atmosphere in the County Stand, I miss all of that.

I remember one time they relaxed the jacket and tie rule. It was a scorcher. Of course, it being the NW of England, no one had the suits and jackets to wick away the sweat and heat.

well judging from his recent insta post, we cant expect a close to unbiased review for now. still remember how happy he was with his free gianni tie

First he begs for a photo studio, now he begs for a sponsorship.

Well if he’s already on his knees...

Perhaps a consultant's job is not all it's cracked up to be.

The Finnish bloke seems to be doing well though.
I legitimately thought he was a coal miner this whole time.

I am disappointed.

I will continue to believe he is a coal miner.

This is the truth, the truth of the heart.

A gig with one The Big Four management consultants is where it's at.
Using the Big 4 (really Big 8) is a guarantee of getting a report report done by 3 x 26 year old drones regurgitating every cliche from the latest books and fucking TED talks. Working for them is like being a loyal worker/advisor for Kim Jong-un, you live like a slave but on a higher salary and occasionally get to participate in the leaders opulent lifestyle but ultimately you are just a worshipper who can be put to death if you displease the boss. If you've ever met a person from the BIg 4 who was worth hiring for an actual job please let me know. Pics or it didn't happen.

I was contacted recently by someone about joining one of the Big 4.

I said I'd rather work for Philip Morris or the US gun lobby before I took a job at PwC.

As an aside, my dream job would be to join CesareRomiti CesareRomiti and work for S.P.E.C.T.R.E.

Maybe they need a John Grisham-type author to boost the image of consultants?

For example, a twenty three year old recently employed by Delight, Anderson & Waterworks. He is working twenty three hours a day trying to make a name for himself. Then he discovers his latest project is on behalf of a secret international criminal cartel. Various hair raising episodes follow, but justice prevails and it ends up fine in the end.

Yes but they pull loads because of the salary.

PwC are particularly adept at missing accountancy frauds and had lots of involvement with the failed Carillion in the UK. And as if by magic, Interserve in the same sitaution as Carillion, or very near it, have just hired PwC as financial advisors.

It is a non virtuous circle in the UK. The big consultancy firms schmooze government and decision makers. There is a revolving door, so failed politicians get work after they lose political power. It is supposed to be monitored but, like all governmental monitoring, it is just a big joke.

So the consultancy firms tell governments what to do - foolishly expensive PFI schemes etc - and what work they want a piece of - outsourcing of various government agencies.
