I’m mostly wearing contacts here days, but next round of insurance I should get some back-up glasses.

Curious if anyone here has experience with honeycomb lenses and/or Transition XtraActive Gen? The former sounds like it would help with night driving glare and starbursts. The later is supposed to work while inside a vehicle - from crystal clear to super dark within a few minutes.

I hate this whole notion of ‘style hacks’ because it’s always just fashion - not getting the right thing for the individual.

But speaking of heavy frames, I see Professor Mansplain has a lovely pair of Curry and Paxton Yvan 1886 frames (made famous by Michael Cain in The Ipcriss File). They look far less bold with his complexion and features. A beautiful frame that I’m sure they would look shit on me, as much as I like them.

I pretty much wear contacts all the time, but I keep a pair of RX glasses and sunglasses in the car for odd occasions when needed. I was thinking about recycling some frames I already have, when it’s time to upgrade them. Really not too fussed about how they look, as they just go on when I have a quick trip to the donut shop in the morning or similar. That said, I struggled to find a pic of Tom Ford Snowdens with clear lenses. I finally found one …. and they do look pretty bad!

Long my favourite frames, someone is now making them in a tone to suit my greying complexion. They even do a clip on sunglass if I wanted to try that again. But the whole bespoke thing is crazy, I don’t think I would know what exactly to get!

Those look cool, although I may be swayed by 007. Much cheaper than the small fortune I've spent on JMM frames.

I was actually in st my optometrist just this morning. I’ve gone back to my trusted AO Original Pilot frames for sunglasses (switching to silver with a G15 tint and blue flash this time) and dropping fresh lenses on an old set of tortoise GL Hampton frames. Sometimes it’s good to stick with what works for you.

I impressed or horrified my family the other night at dinner when I complimented the waiter on his glasses and asked if they were JMM. He was thrilled a customer spotted them. My in-laws were amazed that a waiter was wearing $1200 frames. I suspect that didn’t help his tip.

Currently rocking some AO original pilots with a blue flash lens for driving. The new insurance cycle rocks around in September which means I can get a new pair for cheap.

I’m looking at a few black wayfarer styles frames but they have to fit a narrow face. Nothing catching my eye (pun intended) yet. And no, insurance won’t cover JMM or anything crazy like that.

Virtual try-on is such a scam! They resize the frames to fit your face.

Also I’d be reluctant to pay down a lot of bread on a pair that are indistinguishable from RB Wayferers to 99 percent of the public. They look fine but not exactly groundbreaking.

True. Whatever I end up getting will look indistinguishable to a $10 pair of gas station shades to most people. But I want decent quality, no obvious branding and something that fits my face. Oliver Peoples Sun is another option but $600 for acetate frames is insane, whatever insurance covers.

Have you looked at Moscot?
They have a massive variety of frames / styles and plenty in wayfarer-ish styles if that’s what you’re looking for. Wider color range than RayBans. Probably a bit more expensive but a bit more exclusive too. I don’t recall them having obnoxious and garish branding, a lot of their acetates seem to just have the ‘three dots’ hinge pins on the front and side of the frames.

I forgot I had these Tres Noir Waycooler frames. I like the size and fit. I can either pick up another pair in black or use these dark tortoise frames to put some Rx lenses in (maybe a G15)
