General fatness

BBC last night, a programme pushing for more operations to address obesity.

Woman doctor claimed there was a prejudice against this. Made it sound as if it was more cost effective to just do the surgery early and avoid diabetes and other costly treatments.

People in previous generations did not have the same obesity levels. So I remain unconvinced.

^ complaining that the number of these operations has gone down.

I never see an operation as 'routine'. She seemed to be making that case.

I always thought the NHS was for traditional diseases and illnesses. Obesity may be an issue but prevention is better than an operation. I also see obesity as something of an own goal. Most people can avoid getting to that stage if they try hard.

Yes, but the good lady doctor looks at like this: more "clients" = means more dosh from the state = more NHS organisation = more chance for a move on up into management = more money, much more = add, rinse and repeat until the socialist utopia is built in England's brutal grey and pyramid scheme compliant land. What's not to like, they're all at the top of the pyramid! It's the poor buggers at the bottom we should feel sorry for.
