The Launching Point sounds idiotic. In The Beginning? I feel like the first thread should be titled "There Was Rap".
 
Move them to new forum forum and rename it Become Well Versed with the forum or something like that

1) I did not know about tapping the Iphone to auto-scroll. That's awesome.

2) Physical scroll-jump not showing up still on mobile.

I was thinking about this earlier today. I'm going to request it and see if it can be done. The button still works the same on desktop, so that's good.

Are you using the Soft Responsive theme? Its there for me on iOS. The button is a bit smaller than the previous version.

Ah. The button is part of the Soft Responsive theme. You won't see it using the default. I'm holding off on the other colors until the iOS typing is improved, which should be shortly.
 
Quick note for those who've noticed a change - I've removed the ability to edit your own custom title.

I'm sure I'll offer them up for money at some point. That was one of my more ingenious ideas.
 
Some updates:

-We've now got live chat. Located in the top left of the NavBar, the Chat button will take you to a live shoutbox where you can chat with other members.

-We've also got an Amazon Affiliates link now. Anything that you want to show off that can be bought around the web can be used to help us out. Use the Video link to link your Amazon items.
 
Weve reactivated the sidebar on the forum homepage. Its also showing up on mobile at the bottom of the forum list. What do you guys think? Anything you would like to see added or removed?

I got rid of the panel that showed your posts and avatar. Its a bit more slimmed down now.
 
What do you guys think about adding this into the core:

Posts interface:

Hover over anywhere on a post and the ratings bar will subtly fade into view (always visible on mobile devices) helping to reduce UI clutter:

Note that the ratings themselves can be entirely customised - read on for more :)

Ratings list becomes more concise by hiding removing the rating names when a large variety of ratings have been applied to a post:

If a post does not already have ratings no solid bar is displayed until it has been rated, to further promote a clean interface:

Both forward and backwards compatible with XenForo's built in likes - legacy posts will have Like ratings displayed (by default) and new Like ratings are passed back to XenForo to handle as actual likes (again by default):

This list can easily scale to large numbers of ratings on a single post without breaking the clean design:

Users with the appropriate permission can delete any user's rating from the rating list view: (The X button is displayed on hover of each section to reduce clutter)

If you wish you can choose to have messages with more than x negative ratings 'soft hidden'. A user does not need any special permissions in order to use 'Show message'; it is a purely cosmetic effect.

I still think it would be cool to get a likes to posts ratio shown, like a batting average. It would reward quality posting not just proliferation. I'm at 0.42 likes per post.

Can't get the percentage down, but I can show the likes. Like so.
 
What do you guys think about limiting viewing for guests to the first post of a thread only? We have the ability but its something I hadn't strongly considered until I had a conversation with another forum head.
 
What's the thinking behind doing that? Can't immediately see any benefits myself.

Functionally, by forcing people to register, you garner the likelihood that they'll contribute.

Not saying that that is necessarily the case, but its kind of the thinking behind it. Also, there is a strong vein of 'not giving your hard work for free' amongst the people who use it.

Again, this isn't something that I necessarily considered, but I was wondering what everyone else though about it.
 
That could be interesting, but I might expand it to five posts or so thereabouts. I' of the type that I would get easily frustrated if I could only see one post before being forced to register for a forum.
 
Mmm. Well I lurked for ages on SF before joining. If they'd had something similar in place I'm not sure whether it would have encouraged me to register, or just meant I would never have bothered at all. I suspect the latter. How about some sort of overall limit instead, so guests would be able to view the whole forum, but after say, a fixed time period (a few months), or a fixed number of pages views (a few thousand) or something, they hit a paywall as it were, and are asked to sign up if they want to continue. Some newspaper websites have successfully used this kind of model here in the UK.
 
There's currently a 25 post read limit before it asks you to register. Not sure if its had a positive or negative effect.

My instinct is to make it much bigger, like a 1000 posts. You've got to get them hooked before you ask them to register - after 25 posts they could still just be "meh" and not bother.

Interesting. I upped it to 100 now. Curious to see how that works. The problem is, the limit can be circumvented pretty easily.
