A nice video from the Xenforo guys on the upcoming editor improvements, multi-quote, spoiler, and a few other things. Thought a few of you guys might appreciate a view inside the matrix.

 
Ok, so there's a new feature I want to roll out that's just come into play, but I'm not quite sure how to go about doing it and would like everyone's input:

Finally, there has been enough development on an image gallery add-on that I think we could benefit from it here. What this would do is streamline image viewing and cutdown on the cross talk that happens in a large thread like a WAYWRN. It would allow for individual comments and thumbs (like the old thumb comment system) and still be displayed without any distraction. Here's how it looks:

Sort of like Pinterest, it would give a thumbnail view of all images uploaded to the album/gallery. From within each image you could have an individual discussion, see the likes, etc..
From the options, I could add any sorting or category system we could ask for. Ties, shoes, outfits, etc. Within each category, we could also add categories so that each individual pic could be uploaded. It also provides easy links for sharing and tagging.

My trouble with this is two-fold so far:

1) It functionally operates outside of the main discussion forum. Meaning, it would be a link in the top of the NavBar (next to Sportsbook & Classifieds), as opposed to a thread in Men's Clothing forum. I could possibly create a link from within the Men's Clothing forum to the Image Gallery itself, but I'm not quite sure about that yet. No idea what to title it.

2) Because it lacks the fluidity of a thread, I'm not sure how to break down what this should and shouldn't be used for, outside of something like a WAYWRN or WAYWT - shoes.

Thoughts on this would be very welcome.
 
True, I was thinking the same. On the other hand, I was remembering how unwieldy the WAYWRN threads would become and how people enjoyed the thumb comments because they let the images just flow.
 
Another thing we can have with this is user photo albums on a per-user basis. At this point though, there's no way to cross upload in both a thread and your own album at the same time.

I could see a conversation becoming fragmented and disjointed. One would have to go hopscotching back and forth which sucks. Worse yet you could have entire conversations in one place or the other. That sucks too. Conversation continuity shouldn't be compromised as a general first rule of a BB/forum.

I see what you're saying. No, these would be photo/video albums for the site. What I'd like it to do is every time you upload a pic, the software would add it to your image gallery. Then you could sort through all your uploads, link to them, etc..
 
I'm not sure the volume here warrants it at the moment. Hopefully in the future it does, so being prepared would be a good thing, but I think there's time to take a little while to figure out the best method and write code if need be.
 
Oh, there's OBVIOUSLY no rush, what given our current flood of 1 image a day. It was just something that we own that I'm trying to put into use now that it's ready for it.
 
I noticed Harvey is now a Backseat Lawyer and Rambo is Nobody. How does one edit their title? I cannot seem to find it.

Question - Do we want to try and run the beta version of the new software? Its out today, but its only the 1st beta, and there are bound to be tons of kinks. I can't guarantee what will happen with any of the add-on software either.

Check that - seems the beta will FUBAR our theme and we'll just have to wait it out. Damn.

Forum software is up to beta v3 now. Things are coming along nicely and a lot of the kinks are getting worked out. Hopefully sometime in March the stable version will be out.
 
Alright, alright, alright! We've finally updated to the long awaited new version of the forum software. Thank you, based god!

I'll put up some tutorials later but I wanted to give you a quick rundown of some new features:

-WE NOW HAVE A SPOILER BUTTON!!!!!!!!! You can find it in the toolbar next to the video button. That drops down a menu where you can select quote, spoiler, code, or strike through.

-WE NOW HAVE MULTI-QUOTE!!!!!! To use it, select the +Quote (located next to the quote button) on the posts you want to quote. A little drops own header will say 'post added to multi-quote'. When you're done selecting your quotes, scroll down to the reply box and hit the 'Insert Quotes' button. Easy peazy.

-iPhone images now upload with exit data and the correct orientation.

-A new smiley system which will make adding and using them much easier on mobile.
 
Do you guys think it would be worthwhile to hide spoilered content from guests? Keeping in mind that guests can't currently see DT as it is.

It would show the normal spoiler button, but once clicked, would show something like "this content is for registered users only."

Well, we had decided way back in the beginning that not showing DT would be A) a way to get people to register, and B) keep the porn-y shit off of Google's radar. Remember, SF's DT section is closed to non-registered members as well, mostly due to the Google.
