I think we need to establish a board more dedicated to "deep thinking" for lack of a better term (and being very tired).

Tonight, I was discussing the deevolution of language and a general loss of subtlety in syntax with a friend, and realizing this is the kind of thing "Well Versed" people should be talking about.

Not whether cats can haz cheeseburgers.

In the News is nice, but I'm feeling a slightly more C/E-ish type setup. Something to talk about real problems, with differing moral, ethical, and religious input. Somewhere to attack and discuss real problems or observations.
 
So... use has seemed to be dwindling as of late. Where's the people been going?

I realize it's summer so more people are outside doing things of import, not wearing as many layers, etc...

Back to SF, mainly. But even SF is dead, so its a mixed bag. Getting people to post on one forum is hard enough. Getting them to post on 2 is even more difficult. Just the reality of the situation. Only the people who are truly fed up (few) or really interested in trying to create an alternative (few) are here. The rest are basically just popping in every now and then.

The fact that you think its not got a CE-vibe is not disappointing. We've been working pretty hard to weed out the snarky comments that are completely worthless and make it a news conversation outlet.

As far as the 'deep thinking', do you think it should be a completely new forum or just a thread? And how would you handle that? Because it could get pretty dicey, pretty quickly.
 
Someone brought up a good point to me last night that the business in SF's TransMod hurt us here by presenting it as an US vs. THEM strife. I had never looked at it from that angle but thought it interesting. Things certainly did seem to die down after much of that fracas.

Also, moving this over to Improving.

I'm pretty happy with Styleforum, the summer slowing aside. I guess this is because I never was around for the good old days (which probably, while better, where only that good in hindsight). The latter bolded text applies to me.
 
Do you guys think its time to get rid of the 'The New Forum' schpeal? Maybe rename that or kill that forum and move those threads over to Everything?

That might be a good idea. Maybe make it sticky in "Everything Else" so people can still see it.

Ah, that's why. It uses the cookies to track your reading of them. So, if I set it to not reappear for 30 days, and you clear your cookies out at 15, it'll popup again thinking that its been 30 days. Sadly, there's no real way to keep track of them without using a cookie.
 
Any of you guys have interest in a Stock Trader game/contest? Basically, the way it would work would be everyone would get a set amount of money and build themselves a portfolio. The rankings would be tracked and people could see who was doing best worst.

Admittedly, not my thing, but I know others are into the market.
 
I want to bet on the value of precious metals, not stocks!

So is there a way that DT could periodically be visible to non-members as recruiting lure? I think we all could draw people in with a simple link to the Strange and Unusual thread ... but only members can see it...

Small suggestion: a haircut thread. Sorta like some of the clothing advice threads, but for hair. I know I definitely need help.

I've seen you answer this question about 15 different times, in the exact same way, but every time it still brings a smile to my face.
 
What do you guys think we should do with the 'The New Forum' forum? I was thinking about moving all that in here to EE, but then there would be 1000 sticky threads at the top, and there are already too much. Then I thought about moving the sticky threads in here over there and renaming that something else. Just keep everything over there from the instructional threads, to intro's and moderation.

Thoughts?
