It's always five o'clock somewhere

Actually you know what is floating my boat right now?

1/2 oz dark rum (el Dorado 15)
1/2 elderflower liquor
a liberal dash Angostura
1 oz tonic water
lime peel

Funny you post that - I was on the hunt for a modestly-priced mixable bourbon and the helpful gent at the liquor store pointed me to this C.B. Jackson product. I wish he'd just pointed me towards the Jim Beam.

Oh, gotcha. I burned though a few bottles of Myers, back in the day. Perhaps I will accidentally a few bottles of Goslings in the near future.

Appleton's is also worth a shot, but I have enough sipping rums. Inexpensive mixers is more what I'm looking for.

Goslings. Find some Fever Tree ginger beer as well so you can make dark n' stormy's. The perfect summer drink.

OKAY HAve a bottle of Goslings (and sampled liberally!), first I tried a darn and stormy. , with ginger ale. V. Unimpressed. I think I should have gotten ginger beer, what ever that is.

Then I remade the Commuter, except with Kirsch instead of Maraschino liqueor which I don't have anyway. I left out the lemon juice but added a lime wedge and a dash of Angstura. Anyway I don't have much of a knack for concocting cocktails, so I called it the Fuck You, which pretty well describes the taste.

Got the ginger beer and have made two attempts at a Dark N Stormy. There will not be a third.

I've also tried to make Jack & Gingers. Not sure of the appeal for this one, either.

Wat!?!

Home made old fashioned, using Canadian rye (Alberta Premium: Dark Horse), a dash of both regular and orange Angostura bitters, a hint of simple syrup, and a Luxardo Maraschino cherry, not those fake bright red ones.

Today is world martini day. Gonna make one and be a good global citizen.

I am a brewer by trade, and I am particularly fond of Belgian sour styles like lambic, geuze, fruit lambics, oud bruin etc although I mostly brew modern hop forward pale ales.

Just finished a bottle of 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze, lovely beer.

Do you like Kriek Lambics?

I love me a good kriek, as long as it is not too artificial or alcopop-like. I was in Belgium last year and was surprised to find kriek almost everywhere, even in vending machines, but mostly it was sickeningly sweet and tasted like chewing gum. Either not based on real lambic at all or contained nasty sweeteners, colorants and flavorings.

I have had some fantastic kriek from Cantillon, Boon, Hanssens etc. Tasted K is for Kriek from Brooklyn Brewery the other day, was ok but lacked complexity and was a bit too strong alcohol wise.

I used to drink em all the time in my early teens. Don't like them as much anymore, but I should try the ones you mentioned. Thanks!

Of Unibroue I think their best is Trois Pistoles, le find du monde its pretty good though. Ommegang's Three Philosophers is some of the best beer out there that uses Kriek Lambic.

3 Philosophers is the bee's knees. So hard to find on tap.

Is it? When I used to drink tons of beer I never had a problem finding it. I have drank some of the finest Belgian beers that exist and still I always come back to two beers. Duvel and the Hefenweisen by Weistephaner.

Three Philosophers and Le Fin are two mainstays in our house. Also Goose Island Pere Jacque. That is a fine brew.

Right now, however, I'm drinking some Diplomatio Exclusiva Rum and smoking an AJ Fernandez New World.

If you want any good ol' Venezuelan rum, please let me know ahead of time. My family is coming soon from Venezuela.

Very kind of you. Are they coming for vacay / visit?

My cousin is coming from London at end of July, I've warned her it gets a bit hot down here.

For now they are just coming to visit. Once I become an American then they will come to stay most likely. The Other day I was drinking the Cacique 500, that thing is fire.
