Obee City: Why so much fatness?

There's an inherent disconnect there. I get it: big person small car. But why would that person, obviously big into consumption, not get a bigger car?

I didn't notice the make of car though on first watch... It's probably fairly expensive and there would be the economic consumption.

Lord almighty, just witness this.

I admit, I lawl'd.

To this day, one of the top 5 funniest things I've ever seen was a 300+ lb chick in a Geo Metro that got stuck in a bowling alley parking lot because one of her tires had broken a grate on a drainage drop inlet. Like 4 of us picked the car up and set it aside. After she was out of course.

I have mixed feelings on that one. It's hard for me to poke at overweight people at the gym because of dysmorphia issues; I frequently feel like one. I mean, everyone starts somewhere.

Call me bit by the sympathy bug

Yeah, despite the fact that they let themselves get comically shaped, they are really making more effort to maintain and improve their strength and mobility than I am.
Granted, they need it more...
My understanding is that the very obese get a bonus effect from exercise due to the fact that their bodies are so unwieldy and heavy. Supposedly they frequently reach a plateau where moving their bodies around is just not as much work as it previously was...

Nobody will ever drop that much weight with exercise. They're clowing themselves. That size can only ever come down with a change in diet. Stop eating so much sugar.

No sympathy. And I am disappointed in you guys for not giving them a proper laugh.

On a side note, a Yale study today published an association - not a direct causal link mind you - between hyperactivity and drinking of sports drinks and other highly sugared beverages. Sugar is Satan

I must say that since you've been posting about the evils of sugar I have expanded my realization of just how detrimental it is. Knew it was bad in general but that is a massive fucking understatement

Indeed. It correlates to obesity as highly as cigarettes to lung cancer. You just can't process the sugar, and I can't emphasize more emphatically that sugar is sugar, regardless of whether it was fruit or corn syrup. If it doesn't have the fiber of, say an apple, it gets converted strait to fat. If you drink a single soda, that is the most sugar you should consume in an entire day, drink a big gulp? You're going to be those girls on treadmills.

Watch Fed Up. It's disturbing to see how the food industry, especially the soda industry, is part of the banality of evil. They know.

Oh yes, but I think a holistic approach is necessary. One really needs to make an entire lifestyle change and decide not to be a self-indulgent impulsive lump. I may be giving too much credit in thinking the discipline carries over. It's entirely likely that ten minutes of exercise gets "rewarded" with an extra heaping of slop.

Yes and no. You drink a can of soda, it will take you 1.5 hours to work it off. Tell me how it's possible to keep those nimbus clouds on a tread mill for that long? There's really only one change a person needs to make: stop eating sugar. Unfortunately it goes beyond discipline into addiction. Sugar behaves very similarly to cocaine in the brain, and we know cocaine is barely addictive, don't we? You're shoved full of sugar since childhood, how can everyone not eventually become an addict?

Sorry, I am not poking at you directly, but I'm tired of hearing this holistic bullshit, the garbage with Michelle Obama exercising after the food industry changed the message on her from sugar. The Obama's are perhaps the most maneuverable pair to ever live in the White House. She knows it's sugar. Sugar industry, powerful lobby. Obesity is caused by over-consumption of sugar, end of story, anything else clouds the truth.

I still think that the people subjecting themselves to treadmills are just more likely to resist the sugar. It really is about what kind of person you view yourself as, and that's why I want to smack the fatties that think they have some predisposition, read inevitable predestination, to obesity.

Easier said than done, I know, but the thing I find helps most people is to understand that you can't refrain from doing something you like. You can, however, change the person you are into the kind of person who doesn't even like that stuff. Sugar Smacks still taste the same as they did under Carter, but I don't know anybody who still eats them. Do the same for soda.

In medical school a lot of the guys (who went into ortho) went to the gym and would discuss with euphoria how much canned tuna they ate. "There's 15g of protein and zero fat!" they'd whisper to each other, and they'd sooner eat salamander eyes than lick a Dorito. That was the kind of guys they were.

This may not be a reassuring solution to some, but I can promise you that it is the only solution: you have to decide you're not the kind of person who wastes time on that. Condemning it, banning it, hiding from it-- all will lead to failure.

People like those on treadmills are more likely to further delude themselves than anything. They'll do an hour on the treadmill and then think they're earned a treat (the delusion being they're net negative on calories), where in reality they've just made themselves fatter.

Fatties like that have no self control or discipline. It's too easy to survive. 20,000 years ago they'd be dead a shit. You need a reason to exhibit discipline and the world today doesn't require any to survive.

I've managed to go from a two pack back to six in the last few months. My first child is due Friday, I turn 39 in September, and I fear this is my last gasp at a reasonably fit physique. I need to embrace the gut at some point.
