i grow poorer by the day supporting a herd of dysfunctional horses, ponies & donkeys; semi-feral cats and shelter-rescue dogs. not to mention a Ukrainian-Canadian Princess, 3 sometimes boomerang kids and 6 grandchildren.
 
So wtf is the difference between an overcoat and a top coat? Beyond Chesterfield and trenches, are there any other named styles?

And what's the point of duffle coats?

I always thought a topcoat to be a lighter weight overcoat that may be shorter. Less formal than an overcoat?

I like Duffle Coats.
Thought about getting a blue or brown one made from casentino.

They are weird in being a long, casual coat, and often with a hood. My brother had one in college. Beyond folksy rustic wear, I'm not really sure what to do with one.

Also, what that covert thing, if I have the name right. Some fawn-colored deal with a velvet collar?

I thought they were not-so-formal.
The wikipedia page says "a coarse, thick, woollen material" as well as mentioning that "owes its popularity to the British Royal Navy, who issued a camel-coloured variant of it as an item of warm clothing during World War I" and that it is seen as a leftist uniform and is worn by the "mall trad" Andy Bernard on the awful American The Office.
 
Wikipedia has everything. I can't remember where I read it, but I remember they had something to do with the military

I need to get an overcoat the one I had had to be let go since it didn't fit anymore.

I'd avoid that second one. Besides the dicey color, I'm not a fan of the cuff treatment and patch pockets .

I like those cuffs. Got them on all my overcoats.
Same goes for patch poquettes
The colour might be an issue... unless you have 2-3 other overocats already
 
Vicuna is such a wank IMO. I see yellow hook selling Vicuna ties for $600 out of fabric clearly not made for ties (too fuzzy). The poor buggers that buy them don't realise that after 5 wears they'll be pilling like crazy at the knot area and from friction against their coat.

Anyway, I'm all for turned up cuffs and patch pockets on overcoats, big fan of the polo coat in general.

What is going on here? If that's double breasted, why so low and such minimal overlap? Should not the gorge be a bit higher on a coat meant to protect from the weather?
 
Last winter frightened me so much that I have bought some serious (though still appropriate for daily wear to the office) outerwear. I had gotten away with a lightweight top coat and scarf for years prior.
