Review Of My Formosa Suit From NMWA

Rambo, your forum is getting famous! All thanks to Noodles! Are the donations pouring in yet?

Yo, welcome! Now that you're here, why the 70s dress? Is it intentional or a side effect of trying to achieve a certain look?

I love the wider lapels, the high waisted trousers, the big collars and the general colour palette of the 70s, but some things should stay firmly in that era, such as the flared trousers, the poly mixes, and the downward pointing notches. It makes it too easily identifiable 70s, making it more of a period piece. Which is fine if that's what you're aiming for.

HELLO!

Haven't I answered this though? I'll give it another shot: Maybe it's just because I spend more time in SW&D than in CM but I have more fun experimenting and taking risks than with just doing the same thing over and over. It's really just as simple as that. It's weird the different reactions I get; like in SW&D most people seem to get it and offer advice like "oh if this is the look you're going for, try some cuban heels," for instance, whereas in CM people are stuck on the basic premise and demand explanations for why I would want structured shoulders or full-cut trousers, or whatever. And I think you in particular either didn't carefully read a lot of my posts or just choose to read into them things I was never saying. Which may have been partially my fault for raising the topic in the Noodle thread which ostensibly was focused on "business dress" and may not have included "business dress in the style of another era" in many people's minds.

Come on Stanley. Whilst this may be justification for experimentation, the fact remains that you've been failing quite a bit with your outfits from what I've seen posted by your sycophants here. And not your usual beanpole miscues, but complete outfit disasters. A good experimenter needs to be able to look at the data and say "alright, this experiment just isn't working."

I didn't really read any of your posts. I was mostly just stirring the pot a bit. Good fun that was.

Fair enough, you want to dress 1970s. Why not go all out? Wear some cord suits with super wide lapels, or some high waisted trousers with silk shirts. Perhaps a (tucked in or not) terry cloth polo, again high waisted trousers, and some loafers for a more casual look.

I guess I just don't like the 1970s version of business casual. Vox (hi!), has great pictures of 70s done well.

Rambo,
He posted a slim fit suit on gnat and it looked great on him. But he still chooses to experiment with this retro baggy look.

I am glad I actually look at my pictures and realize when something really sucks. Then throw a picnic attack.

You're not really describing the opinions of anyone whose opinions I actually value. But it's fine if you want to think I'm "failing quite a bit" or whatever; if I'm not failing here and there then I am not taking enough risks. Maybe SW&D has a higher tolerance for fits you might say are failing but which we just consider part of the process. That or there is just a lot of subjectivity to all of this.

The tie in your avatar, the casino floor carpet design, hideous and reminiscent of M'raro at Pitti 86.

Any baggy fits look ridiculous on an emaciated frame, my suggestion is to eat more/better and do something physical to acquire a muscle.

No one, outside of Arnathor Arnathor , would say Stanley can't dress well when he tries to.

Lol, I've done that one already over on SF. I don't think he'll fall for it twice. That would be too easy, and would take the fun out of trolling.

If your goal is to make yourself look like a human clothes hanger, then by all means carry on. I am probably appreciative of more outlandish stuff than anyone on here (except maybe fxh), but it should at least look aesthetically pleasing.

Come on. This is a horseshit justification. If you only "value" certain people's opinions then why bother posting pictures publicly?

But it's fine if you want to think I'm "failing quite a bit" or whatever; if I'm not failing here and there then I am not taking enough risks.
If you fail more than you succeed then you need to go back to the drawing board.

Look, I don't claim to understand most of what gets posted on SW&D. And I certainly don't know what "the process" is, but if that process leads to shitty outfits, then maybe the process is broken. Of course this is all subjective. Its obviously my opinion that a 6'9 150lb man shouldn't wear suits that look like they are two sizes too big on him.

It's not horseshit to say there are plenty of people on styleforum who don't know what the fuck they're talking about

and it's not unreasonable to be posting pictures without the intent to satisfy everyone

Of course. Because it's obviously true.

No, but it is unreasonable to post pictures to the Internet, satisfy no one, then say to yourself "I'm going to do more of that."

But that's not even the case in the CM WAYWRN thread. In fact it seems like most people get the basic idea of what I am going for and may have suggestions on how to improve that don't amount to "scrap everything, start over" but they have been overshadowed by a small but obnoxiously vocal minority who don't like the style and/or just want to argue (ie Caustic Man).

this is actually correct

i think a lot of sf members were already lurking. but noodles registring prolly was the last push some needed to actually participate. it wont be lomg before stitchy spoopopopopooker and patricksexbooth also register. we can then officially call it a day and rambo can refund any excess donations

Right, but you're not improving. This is what you're missing. You keep going back to the same well and coming up with no water in your bucket.

well it's unfortunate that the internets have been conditioned to expect kopping machines that purchase a ton of new stuff on a whim based on forum advice. I have purchased literally one suit and one blazer that are like this and have posted a few times with a few different combinations and you're ready to call me insane.

Was reading the DW commentary on this thread/the Noodle saga. Interesting to see how people talk when they think we can't read it.

Ha.

I agree that some of what has been said to you has been the product of individuals disregarding what you've said. At the same time, you've not acknowledged some of the better advice given to you which did take into account your preferences. Or if you did, I totally missed it (entirely possible).

What were your thoughts on finding a middle ground on those pants in terms of slimness? I think most of us thought that the pair you were unhappy with were too slim given your leg shape. And what you liked about the YSL pants was that their fullness allowed them to drape cleanly. A few people, myself included, suggested you slim those YSL pants to somewhere halfway between their original state and that first pair you showed (I don't remember if it was Epaulet).

Did you ever try doing that? And if not, what were your reasons for not doing so ("I like the retro look" being a good enough reason for me)
