The All-Inclusive Shoe & Boot Thread

So the boots are sold that way with just a polished toe? If the contrast weren't so strong I'd probably want it myself.

No, as fxh said, Gerry just got a bit carried away with polishing them.

Personally, while I don't mind a pair of chelsea boots looking a bit shiny, I don't think that a mirror polish on the toe suits them - it looks a bit incongruous.

If you're interested in RM Williams boots, you can have a look at their boot catalogue here:

What do you guys think of these? "this calf/suede combination adds a splash of dandy elegance to any attire"
Grand Potentate Grand Potentate is there any way I can make these pics smaller?

And to even out the negativity, I quite like these, but I guess chelsea boots are for wearing with jeans only?

Despite being labeled a Foo by fxh fxh - I'm assuming I'll take the Foo role as i am closer to him in height than Manton - you can wear chelseas with a suit or odd jacket and trousers no problem.

how does one wear these? with what? formal design with a very informal colour plus the natural sole edge

If anyone's after some well-made but rather inexpensive dress shoes, Ron Rider is having a sale on his website.

It seems that he was going to have a joint venture with someone else, making some more fashionable designs than his usual Rider Boot Co offerings, but that things fell through so he's selling off the stock at very decent prices. The shoes and boots are blake-stitched and made in Italy. Rider's other stuff has always been good quality so I expect that these are decent, too.

Are Blake shoes less comfortables than Goodyear welted? I read that in SF. Thruth?

No, at least with the couple of pairs I've had in the past. Blake gets shit on a lot but there is nothing wrong with them.

In concept, Blake soles are thinner than GYW but it comes down to quality of materials.

My most uncomfortable shoe was AE and that is GYW. Felt like I was wearing rocks on my feet.

Just because a shoe is GYW does not mean it is always better. There are a lot of cheap GYW shoes out there.

I know that just because is GYW doesn't mean is better, Meermin for example, but I was reading the Rancourt thread on SF and well they were saying that the boots that Rancourt makes are very uncomfortable and several posters were saying that is because they are blake stitching, hence why I ask.

Check out Matthew Cookson now (price inclusive of worldwide shipping), and he offers GYW, Blake stitched with leather/Dainite soles, and kiddie sizes too.

I must admit that I find it a bit ironic - not to say hypocritical - that you call various people shills and yet you frequently mention Matthew Cookson and you attempt to persuade people to buy his shoes.

Furthermore, you've attacked Justin Fitzpatrick in the past and you've criticised his shoes, but I don't think that he sells anything as unpleasant as these items from Matthew Cookson:

And that's just a couple of examples - there are plenty more on the Cookson site.

Did I praise MC' shoes at all? I was just pointing out some good bargains, it's up to you whether you take it, or not.

well his sale prices are good but i didn't realize how many fugly models he has:

450 pounds for this? Inelegant. even at 300 quid. Cole Hahn does nicer

400 quid on sale complete with tumours

The herringbone elastic panel is actually neat in my book. I have no idea what the deal is with the lacing going down so far, like roofer's boots.

^ Yes, I saw those posted over on SF - apparently they were made before WWI, so they're over 100 years old.

Interesting to see how the shell looks fine, but the calf upper is cracked and dry.

A new GMTO for a button boot - lovingly based on RogerP's commission - is taking shape. Not sure why MoosicPA is on the fence he buys boots like I buy cigarettes. Maybe if they were in reindeer he would be in like a dirty Burgos shirt.

At the risk of looking all iGent-like, I purchased a pair of Carmina shell cordovan balmoral boots recently. They arrived yesterday and they are fantastic.

In true iGent fashion, I've attached a picture, although I've managed to avoid the temptation to post a full-length photo of myself in a peculiar pose.

That's a very wide chalkstripe, looks a bit modernish. Are the shoe colors close to true?

The fabric is actually a navy flannel with a faint windowpane check about 2"/5cm a side. The shoes are actually a bit darker in real life, as is the suit fabric.

No, they're in burgundy shell on Robert last, from Unipair in South Korea. They are, I think, the same design as the Greeley that was commissioned by Epaulet.
