The All-Inclusive Shoe & Boot Thread

Why would you wear boots in Florida? I sold all of mine. Loafers only from now on!
Loafers. Keep the clodhoppers at home. Always look like you just stepped off a yacht.

I would go full RB, if I lived in Florida.

I wasn't able to load into photobucket for close to 3 years because when l came to upload it would unlog my password, and that is why l only could do tiny screenshots. Only the other day am l able to use it again. I never bother trying to contact them for customer support because all they do is ramble alien jargon at me and vex me.

I wish l could use another program, but l am not good at learning new technical things. I prefer to stick with what l know, but l do pay a heavy price with photobucket.
let us help you with this. we've got everything from photographers to clothes pornographers on here. i'm sure we can come up with some decent options for you to work with, be it free or paid.

Amazing Shoos The Shooman The Shooman . Thanks for posting

Please tell me someone saved the pics - genuinely sorry I missed these.

Thanks for the nice words about my shoos fellas, even ole monkeyface gave them the thumbs up, wow. I thought everyone hated them, but soon l realised that no-one could see them.

Yes Rambo, I really need to get my act together and learn new things. Give me a couple of days to psych myself up about it and and then i'll get down to business.

In case others can't see them, here they are again posted using a different photo program.

I was only able to post pics because l found my old kodak easy share program from 10 years ago. I have been trying for years trying to work photo programs but it was always wayyy too hard to work out how to do it. Working out how to download and use internet things is something l struggle with.

I have never been able to upload pics here because it always asks me for a URL, but how on earth can l get a url??? Way too hard to upload pics here, it is like rocket science, and one can easily waste a day trying to do it without any result.

The Shooman The Shooman as monkey so elegantly pointed out, you can upload them directly to the forum from your home computer by using the UPLOAD A FILE button. If you want to use a web service to add the pictures to then use that to show them here, the web service would provide you with the URL.

Aha, here we go, just testing my new tech skills (posting pics).

Bespoke trial shoo 4.webp

Above is a pic of a bespoke trial shoe that was made for me by one of Australia's top makers. Such things are unheard of in Oz.

The last was based on this Greek last that Mr X and I redesigned. Why? Because aussie lasts are usually ugly and blocky.
Last 4.webp

Mr X also made me a bespoke shoe, but a factory made goodyear welted pair. I was lucky to get it because he held up an entire big factory to specially make my shoo. Those type of situations never usually happen, but it did in this case because Mr X was training the factory and he had the power to stop the factory and get workers to see him working on my shoo.

See....when you are in the secret shoo world you get big factories to stop so your own shoo can get made instead, you get trial shoos that are usually never used, and you get men who spend 45+ hours on making your shoos instead of only 2 hours. See...when you are the gatekeeper to the `shoo world' YOU decide who gets in and who stays out, and YOU get favours done that NO other man will ever get.

So far no-one has qualified to get into the private `shoo world'.

So why did you let fxh fxh in?

The Shoo World

Hey Monkeyface: the standards are very high mate. Fxh knows full well he wouldn't be allowed in, but he does not try to come in because he knows the massive responsibilities and breeding such a position entails. Very few men are up to the job of being a shoomen in the private shoo world. You have to be a certain type to get in...you MUST have shoos in the blood, you must live and breath shoos, you must have l dreamed of owning dress shoos as a young boy until it hurt not to own them, AND you must have worn dress shoos as a boy, and you must loathe casual footwear, and you must be born to be a proper shoomen, and you must be prepared to make sacrifices.

See...there are lots of Johnny come lately types to shoomanship, but those types don't get let in. Why? Because money can't buy your way into the shoo world, and those Johnny come lately types are not true shoomen. As l have said, shoos must be in your blood, and you have had to be an aspiring shoomen as a young boy.

Various guys want me to let them in, but l never do. I can smell a proper shooman from a mile away.

Fritz and a couple of others would get into the `shoo world', but few others would qualify.

What?! You'd let Fritzl in?? But he's a maftei shill. Surely shilling would be grounds for a lifetime ban from the shoo world?

I thought you had higher standards, mate. Very disappointing.

Anybody, aside from the dead Leitmotif, has any idea on quality and fit of the 960 Yanko last? Looking for a pair of dress boots in the 260 euro range (the Santoni outlet only had lower quality fashionista stuff or nothing in my size).

Will post pics of the Velasca loafers I bought, they're not a bad shoe at all.

A pair of muck around shoos l bought a while back. Bruno Magli `platinum' shoos. Goodyear welted. I only bought it because l find it difficult to find monks, so l purchased it as a filler and a beater shoo.

I use bright red paste and burgundy polish for these.

The Shooman The Shooman was at the podiatrist this morning and he said his son had got a pair of Big Johnny Lobbs at Harrold s on sale for $600!

$600??? Doesn't sound right. I've seen them down to $1,200, but never that low. I can always have a look, but when a steep sale happens there is usually only one size left. My chances of landing Lobb at $600 is pretty much zero.

I do notice that Harrolds were selling the Lobb prestige at the same prices as the Lobb classics. $2,400.

My antique job on Santoni FAM. Inspired by Kiton and did a special vertical stroke technique using waxes and pastes on much of the shoe, and used a blotch technique used on the heal counter and toes. They worked out very well and look better in person than in the pic, but the pic shows my technique used. See how subtle it looks...took a very fine hand to do. Took a very long time to do. Btw, these shoos were originally medium brown.

I love these shoos! One of my favourite pairs. Actually, l LOVE all my single monks with big buckles, they are shoos for letting "it all hang out".

Wore my Church's `westbury' shoes yesterday, just stunning and completely awesome. They are not overly fancy, but they make a real statement in a way very few shoes do, they are completely amazing on the feet.

What kind of frequency do people treat/polish their shoos?

I buy sapphir luxxx cream recently awaiting arrival. Is cream + wax essentially all you need.

I intend to just get by using le cream as not too keen on overly shiny polished look

What kind of frequency do people treat/polish their shoos?

I often polish my pairs every second wear and sometimes every third wear if l can get away with it, but l always like my shoes to look flawless, l have been that way since l was a young boy who used to polish his shoes every single night. My shoemaker (John) strongly disapprove of my habits and say l should polish my shoes EACH TIME before l go to bed, and my other shoe maker (Mr X) says every shoe in your entire collection should be moisterized at least once per month. Why? Because Mr X has been able to keep well worn shoes made from average leather in good shape for over 35 years using such a method with no sign of the leather cracking.

No,the most important thing is renovateur imo to preserve the life of the leather. That should be used much of the time with the paste being used sometimes and the wax being used very occasionally a couple of times a year as a protector of the leather against scuffs, junk and wet weather. See...when you use wax, if you get a scuff you can just buff it out quickly, and if you get mud and junk on your shoes you can easily clean them without it soaking into the pores of the shoe. Renovateur is quick and easy to use, so use this most of the time, maybe 4-1 or 3 - 1 with the paste.

Maybe just use two coats of wax and no water/spit shine, you need some protection against dust and rain and other junk that comes from the sky. That won't make them too shiny. Many of my casual shoes don't have a shine either.

Also, before you polish some shoes use a wet warm damp rag to wipe over the shoes to collect any dust and junk on them, this is important.

I've never really gone for any of the Dutch shoemakers, as they really don't cut the mustard when compared to English shoemakers or US ones. Where they do make an acceptable Oxford, as in Van Bommel's 19890/12 they come in a ridiculous H width:

Van-Bommel-19890-12-H_A.webp

Which is a shame because the price is reasonable at €249.

Another shoemaker is Greve and I've always discounted them as they seem to specialise in coloured crocodile monstrosities and shiny pointy things. I was having a look at their website and I noticed the Breda model:

516088-003.webp

Pretty much a standard Oxford brogue, ideal for work and a bit more cost effective than C&J's at €349. I also noticed they do custom bespoke shoes on various lasts and styles. So I called them up and told them what I am looking for and the price for bespoke shoes where they keep your last is between €600-700 which is extremely reasonable. The most cost effective bespoke option in the UK is Tim Little and their bespoke options start at around GBP1500.

So I am thinking of going bespoke with Geve, it will likely be the end of August now. So I will report back.

The only van Bommel I know is the scumbag who had a most distasteful celebration for a goal scored against the only Spanish side worth supporting. My skin crawls with the mere mention of the name.

Melbourne's Mr Shoes, Miss Louise founder Morry Fishman, dies on trip to Italy
Melissa Singer

Melbourne has lost a fashion icon with the sudden death of Morry Fishman, the patriarch of the Miss Louise shoe empire.

Mr Fishman died over the weekend after suffering a heart attack while on a business trip to Italy with his daughter, Jacqueline.

Mr Fishman's son, Darren, said the family was in shock but his father died doing what he loved.

"He was very active. If he couldn't [go to work] it would have been a blow to him. For him to go at the top of his game and doing what he loved ... and living it up on Capri [was better]," he said.

In the shoe business since 1964, Mr Fishman was a fixture on the Melbourne fashion circuit and brought international labels to the city's most fashionable feet long before the likes of Net-a-Porter could deliver them at the click of a finger.

Still, even in the internet age, Miss Louise remains a destination for fashionable women wanting the full designer experience that can't be had online.

During any trip to the Collins Street store, Mr Fishman could always be counted on to be sitting in his chair on the shop floor, the elder statesman overseeing the empire he helped build.

Even at sale time, when the store is a flurry of boxes, women and credit cards, he maintained a calm vigil over his shoe kingdom.

Mr Fishman, a Polish immigrant, began his fashion career in the mid-1950s with a stall at Queen Victoria Market, where he sold menswear.

"It was all the stuff that was trendy at the time. It was Lurex cardigans and stovepipe pants," Darren Fishman said. "He was always well dressed and presented."

Mr Fishman and his wife, Louise, bought their first shop, in Howey Place, in 1964 and started selling locally made shoes, before making the switch to imported designer labels in the 1970s, a move that shaped the business that exists today.

"At one stage he was known as the mayor of Little Collins Street when he had a number of shops there," Darren Fishman said.

Margaret Porritt, of fashionb brand Feathers, said Mr Fishman was a treasured Melbourne fashion icon.

"What he did for international shoes in Melbourne was pretty phenomenal," Mrs Porritt said. "It's been an incredible journey. He was bringing in international labels before anybody."

Stylist Lana Wilkinson, a frequent visitor to the store with her celebrity clients, said Mr Fishman's presence in the store – he was there six days a week, seven at peak times – would be missed.

"When you would talk to him he would be the first to offer guidance and advice. And that's the stuff that's going to be missed – that knowledge ... someone who has seen fashion through the years," she said.

The family is making arrangements to return Mr Fishman's body to Melbourne for a funeral.

Funny enough, l never ever saw Mr Fishman in his shop. The only thing l encountered was the most unpleasant sales assistants imaginable, far worse than the ones in the film pretty woman....wayyy more snooty.

Late edit:
I will make a confession however, it was partly my fault for the shabby treatment. Why? Because as a wide eyed jooniour shooman climbing the shoo ladder 20 years ago, I innocently went into the shop and asked why they always bought glued soled shoos instead of the really good ones with stitched soles. This was the question which got them very angry, and the response they gave was very harsh, they declared WW3 on me and gave me a very hard time. I think they got extra angry with me because they knew l was innocently asking the question and must have known l genuinely thought the shoes were rubbish and that l didn't care about the fancy labels. I suppose l was a shoo snob, and they were shocked that l even out-snobbed them by asking such a question.

Talking about snooty sales assistants, here is a really snooty customer service reply, but still not as snooty as the Miss Louise experience l had one day.

Far from having a sixth sense, Chris the sales assistant, was engaging in the hard sell tactic. Nevertheless the whole thing may be contrived by the fashion store as a sales gimmick.

Couldn't you keep it yourself?

Anyway you'll be lucky to be still walking in shoes in 5 years at your age!

In five years time, I hope to have merged as man-machine with my trusty Brompton.
