One of the most boring and relentless pop culture tropes over the last decade has been the lobby to get this fucker to be James Bond. I objected to this from the get go not because he’s black but because he’s an absolutely shit actor!

I’m not a video gamer but from what I’ve read, the money and lore they poured into First Light is impressive. First rate actors that bring fresh light to the story, an excellent theme song by LDA and many insider nods to the films. The funniest part for me is to see product placements and marketing in full force - N. Peale and Orlebar have already released their ‘as seen in the game’ lines.

It sounds like this is a more worthy successor to the storyline than whatever dross Amazon will eventually pump out.

I love all the outrage that floats around about how appropriate or realistic different actor are to play made up fictional figures.

OTOH I'd be pretty picky about who should play me in the upcoming bio pic of my life.

Fair enough up to a point but this character has been floating around in pop culture for 70 years and it’s only natural that people feel a sense of ‘ownership’ and debate who would or would not be appropriate to play him. I’m sure there have been similar discussions around Holmes, Poirot, Reacher, Dr Who, Kirk, Batman, countless others.

I really like what Craig had to say on the debate about a black Bond. Something like ‘instead of shoe-horning black actors into established white roles, why don’t we just do a better job of creating new black roles?’
