I got lucky with the rare chance to purchase another one of these. As high quality and solid as it gets. Never have seen a jumper made better. Really dense, heavy and thick. Couldn't pass it up. Vintage. The only jumper that compares in quality is the vintage Dachstein. Made to last 100 years. Blows any Irish aran cableknits completely out of the water. If you put this on with a thermal wool underlay on a freezing cold day with chilly high winds and you will be as right as rain.

I´ve tried the a SNS Herning Stark a few years ago, and while the knit was nice a nice texture and quite solid, the model I tried had very narrow sleeves that were uncomfortable when bending my arms - would you mind giving an update on whether that has changed when you´ve received it?

I have been looking for a stand/polo collar cardigan for some time and the Stark would fit the bill nicely.

Nah, that's garbage, made-in-Mongolia. Knew straight away when l saw the euro sizing and the Heritage label that it was going to be dubious. Then l saw the horrible quality intarsia and l knew it was Mongolia, then l finally saw the label.

I have a Quince cardigan. Great value, hits well above its weight, but can’t compete with quality cashmere. Also not a big fan of the pattern- low armholes, tight chest and loose waist. Still, ten times better than anything you could find for 2-4 times the price.

The economics of an under 100 cashmere sweater are suspect.
Just the cost of decent processed cashmere is probably >150-200 per kg.
I don’t know what one of those sweaters weighs, say 1/2kg?

The yellow has some repairs but I paid 30 for it and I find the intarsia very interesting

It is not from the best Ballantyne era of course but I always wanted a vicuna argyle jumper.
Now, what I find quite odd is to mix 15% cashmere...

A recent find: a womens cardigan that I couldn't pass.
New, in box -yes, that's the original box- 1960's, Ballantyne 100% Vicuña women's cardigan.
It surely baffles me, finding such a gem, in a good size, NIB after ~60 years. Well, such its life!

Golf intarsias are a tricky genre, most of them are fugly as hell. Here, I found one cashmere Ballantyne that I might actually wear.

This intarsia crap is ugly as sin, both the motive and the argyle ones. Makes you look like a child or a rapist in a 90s Law & Order episode.

They’re not for me either. I can appreciate the cleverness of incorporating intricate patterns into knitted wool but that doesn’t mean I have to wear them. They just look really juvenile to me like a kid’s Hello Kitty t shirt.

When my nieces were much younger I bought them those Lauren sweaters with the Stars and Stripes on. That’s as far as I’ve come to anything in this department. I don’t understand how McQueen made skulls his trademark then charged exorbitant prices for something you could see in Hot Topic!

Very nice. I don't think I've seen any "made in Scotland" Hermes in this style. Mostly I've seen turtlenecks, v-neck, polo sweaters.

I’ve been wearing my Quince v neck a lot these past few weeks and it is shocking good. Buttery soft, fairly light weight, as you’d want for something like this. No pilling and it’s holding up well without stretching or busting seams. All for less than $60. I’m tempted to buy another because there is no way they can be turning a profit with these prices.

Thank you, got them around 1989-1992. At that time, only Brunos and Lamm offered these cardigans in Switzerland. The missing labels on 'Light Blue I' were rather enthusiastically removed by my Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy back then.

For those of you who have bought Ballantyne shawl cardigans, how much did you all pay? I see a listing for one for $300 but can't tell if it's a good enough deal to take a gamble on size wise. It's a little larger than I'd like at 24" p2p (would prefer 22") and 29" length (would prefer 27"), but the condition looks excellent. The seller mentioned they bought it either in the late 90s or early 2000s and has been sitting in a closet for the past few decades. Seller is unsure about ply or gauge but weighed the garment at a little over 3lbs.

Additionally, can anyone confirm if this label looks right for that time era?

Early 2000s might be correct. I somehow have filed this as a 2010s label in my head, but I can't give you a reference and might be wrong. In any case, this is not a collectors item.
It is by no means a good deal if you compare it to the prices from the time this thread was opened. It might be a good deal if you compare it to what a new e.g. Lockie cashmere shawl collar cardigan would cost you.
Personally, I would not buy it because a) too recent and b) too expensive. But I also have more excellent cashmere pieces than I could ever wear.
