I've forgiven him for his position on Brexit, he is after all, not representing the people and he isn't a sickening Davos man like Bono. But I would prefer it if he had been outspoken on that particular subject in the manner of Roger Daltrey or John Lydon.

The film is very personal and despite being a musical in parts, is far superior to the Queen biopic that at times served to exist only to remind us that Brian May is a PhD in astrophysics.

Elton came from a working class posh background and he delves deeply into what screwed him up and the pathology of his outlandish costumes. Full credit to him for going there and not making a sickly sweet camp affair. Very English too.

Still some classics in Elton's music, but sadly, like the big band era, it's over and never to be repeated.

I caught this last night on Netflix.

What happens when 5 special forces guys get together again and try to rob/take down a S American drug lord at his home and split the $$?

Well...one comes up with a plan. He then recruits a helicopter pilot, a planner and 2 others for the job. He also has an inside woman who will help get them in/out.

Longer than your usual movie....I believe it was over 2 hours.

2.5-3/5.

here is your new 007 if reports are to be believed. The torch will be passed as Bond still exists but he will be replaced as 007 in Bond 25.

I couldn't really understand how allegedly smart people could be greedy enough to stockpile so much cash they can't get over a mountain. I think that was basically the whole movie - getting the cash.

Apparently it is true. However, it's not a problem having a black and/ or female Bond.
But knowing Hollywood's agenda these days she(?) will be a vegan lesbian feminist and the story will be accordingly.
Will be interesting to see which global brands will be shown in the upcoming movie.
 
Clever idea to expand the franchise, though I’m surprised they didn’t keep some shadow of the original Bond character going, while introducing the new one as a spin-off 00 series.

I think they kind of go back to the very first Bond film, where Bloefeld kills Mrs. Bond and James is having mental health issues afterwards.
They can keep a few brands that have long been associated with the franchise. Barbour and Omega for example. Possibly some high end fashion labels for evening outfits.
Car will likely be an electric one (with a special battery designed by Q, so it won't run out of power in a car chase).
 
Why do we need to always flip the gender or race of an established canon? It's like that Ocean's X movie with women instead of men. Go create your own franchise and your own story instead of trying to imitate some piece of work that was written for an English man to play.

What's next? We replace Moses with an oriental in another remake? Go make your own stories and if they are good, people will remember you.
 
Started watching Brexit - An Uncivil War, clearly anti-democratic and Remain propaganda. I stopped when they portrayed Aaron Banks as a lager lout in his shell suit on his stately lawn with everyone else well dressed and anointed the posh lager lout, Nigel Farage with a can of lager spray. Pissheads one and all. Likely from the estates don't 'cha know!

I enjoyed it. I thought that it was interesting and well-made, and that the concept was good, too.

Ultimately, of course, as with virtually all science fiction, you must suspend a certain amount of disbelief and upon consideration, the story doesn't really hold up to serious scrutiny.

Nonetheless, an enjoyable film with good leads and an interesting plot.

In many ways it reminded me of the old movie Contact. I do want to say it is well done and without the usual theatrics. I am still a bit confused why humanity always expects our scandals to come back to help us (I.e. interstellar)
 
Dora is now a movie with live actors and actresses? They don't speak Spanish?
 
There were some violent passages that seem a bit out of place. Didn't seem particularly necessary to me and I found it distracting, but then again I'm not exactly literate in film philosophy.

Excellent. Had she been a Brit, she may well have got away with it for awhile longer, knowing that Noel Coward's generation of gays would never be explicit in their letters regarding homosexual love and eroticism. It was all coded and double wrapped in managers and agents.
 
Saw the Australian film "The Nightingale," a tale of rape, murder and revenge set in Tasmania in 1825. It was shockingly brutal in places, at other times tediously protracted, but in all artistic, haunting and memorable. Just as glad I saw it. I'm also glad I didn't take my wife, because she would have walked out after the first 10 minutes (or less).

Not having watched the film - I would assume you lose out on some of the backstory - why Carson had to step down as Butler and the significance of him returning, etc.

Also the cast has grown since the first series.
 
When is this Irishman movie coming out on Netflix? It's getting good reviews.

Also there was considerable talk about real-time "de-ageing". They already look pretty old from the trailer. How bad do Pesci, Pacino and De Niro look now in real life?
 
Okay maybe it won't come out because De Niro just got accused of inappropriate conduct. Whatever that is.

De Niro's become a bad parody of his own screen persona now. He seems to have that angry confusion that precedes dementia. They're literally all disrespecting him now as he talks in the mirror. Sad to see.

Watched Welcome to Marwen, very engaging and I was thinking what a fantastic imagination the script writer had only to find it is based on a true person and events.
 
Anyone watch The Irishman yet?
I appreciate how they keep raving about the anti ageing special effects but on the promotional photographs the three stars look like how I remember them in my youth as mature actors. They must look ghastly now if the effects have already been applied.

Watched it last Wed when it hit Netflix. My review:

What do you get when you cross Goodfellas(5/5) with Hoffa(4/5) and Casino(3.5/5)? The most anticipated movie of the year....or one of them.

I caught this on Netflix today. Honestly....I saw this movie before. DeNiro plays his standard character. Pesci was a toned down Pesci. Pacino was solid as Hoffa.

NOT a classic. Nowhere on the level of Goodfellas. I might say that I preferred Hoffa over this.

I will rewatch.....maybe over the long weekend to see if I change my mind. I was never a huge fan on Casino.....but I lump The Irishman in with that.

3.5-ish/5....subject to change once I watch it again.

Related: I met JImmy Hoffa Jr years ago when he was running for the pres of the Teamsters. I was working for a steel company Queens, NY and he came by the facility to campaign. I was not a Teamster...jr management....but the drivers/workers all were. Cool dude!

I haven’t watched it again. Honestly, it didn’t move me to and isn’t one of those movies that I will watch a part of whenever it is on(Shawshank, Scarface, A Few Good Men, etc.)

Now that I look/think back, it was ok. I might say 3/5 today.
