Lol no. Actually thanks for that, never heard of it. I don't want to get into Venezuelan politics, after all the shit they did to my family I always avoid that.

Wise. I think most politics are best avoided generally.

Sometimes it's good to leave politics at home, but when the politics go and take your farms, houses, apartments, and then they fired you from your job just because you voted against them it's a whole different game. That's what happened to us.

My father in law is a Cuban exile. I'm pretty aware of the ramifications.

Doesn't change the fact politics are dumb.

Agreed. I don't know if you say it, but yesterday they released information on who is the leader of the "sun cartel" or "el cartel de los soles" look it up, nothing surprising. Hopefully something similar to what they did to Noriega can be done.

My father was making comments about this. I said a petrol depressed Russia headed by Putin is like a rabid dog. Why stick your hand or finger and risk getting bitten? Their economy will collapse if the low oil prices persist so the easiest way is to wait them out like waiting Iran out.

I did watch the tail end of a Ukrainian television segment with a Russian person sitting next to me. Judging from the wooden huts, people walking on the streets (she laughed at me when I asked why they don't walk on sidewalks) and the odd cart pulled by a horse, what pray tell is the incentive for anyone to get in Russia's way?

Honestly, I'm not hugely for intervention, but the whole wait until they collapse strategy doesn't really work. See Cuba, or the one you mention, Iran. These autocracies get backed further into a corner and just do more insane things. You basically have to hope they don't start a war, which is what both Germany and Russia did to start WWI, as a means of distracting from internal problems, nothing like some good old fashioned xenophobia and nationalism to cure what ails ya. Unfortunately Putin seems to be on that path, as opposed to the inward turn that Cuba and Iran (and to a lesser extent China) took.

Other than Russia unleashing what's left of its nuclear arsenal, I fail to understand how their million standing army of mostly conscripts can actually engage in anything beyond pacifying Iraq or unsuccessfully Afghanistan.

They can't start WW1 without a nuclear holocaust and the developed world bets that the Russians do not want to vaporise their best customers next to China.

Russia is never as strong as she looks; Russia is never as weak as she looks. It has been the care for 100 years or so and more than likely it will always be like that.
