When my dad started at TAFE in the 70s the policy was ALL education dept staff had to do two years service in the country within the first 10 years of being hired-on, due to the shortages in the bush. He was lucky to get posted to a relatively large/nice seaside town a few hours from the city.

I can think of no song less associated with Australian rock than Gershwin's Suwannee River. My god. That was truly awful. Moving ahead about eight years, this, the Easybeats, this my friends is everlastin' Australian rock and roll ...

Not to mention the fab shirt Stevie Wright is wearing, which I guess I just did.

My dad saw Johnny and the Delltones, if it was at Festival Hall my dad would have been in the audience. My mum and dad also saw The Beatles at Festival Hall and were 3rd row, and my dad also spoke to Paul McCartney when he was squashed up against his car. :lol My dad had amazing stories of the people he had met over the years and the bands he had seen.

In the US for sure. Other parts of the world it is highly encouraged.

My kids don’t go to a zoned school, so bicycles are out. But I think you’re right, it’s mums in oversized SUVs in the carpool lane and not racks of bikes here.

Pro-tip: Scotch Guard TF out of that while it’s still new. Also, reinforcing the part where the sections join together 😈

thought you might find this interesting The Shooman The Shooman

Not everyone wants to signal privilege by having the wife stay home and make cakes etc from scratch. What these people really believe in is the patriarchy where gender roles are clearly established because they know it is true and tested over eons of time, it is the blueprint of the divine, and it keeps structure in society.

These days the economic pressures have forced many women into the workforce in order to make ends meet for a household; the patriarchy has been tipped on it's head, and gender roles have been confused and lost. Do women love a feminized man? Do men love a boss babe? NO, that is why gender roles work.

Men's roles
- if the house burns down he is responsible to getting the kids and his wife out, even if it costs him his life.
- if someone is drowning a man is expected to jump in and save the person.
- if an uninvited guest comes to the front the door the man is expected to tell the person to get lost in a harsh tone. He could be beaten up, but he is still expected to do it.
- if the kids play up the man does the discipline and acts in a manly authoritative way
- leaves home each day to earn the money while undergoing stress in the process and the pressure to keep working so he can look after his family.

Women's roles
- providing a great home environment where everything functions well.
- to nurture, teach and look after the kids and make sure her husband is taken care of so he can perform his role for the family.
- to have children.

Few men's and women's roles are fun. Both require sacrifice. Women have child birth; and men are expected to put their life on the line to protect, and leave home each day to earn. For native people it is the same; the man risks his life to hunt food while the women look after the home and prepares meals etc.

true but the point he was making is that the people making these tiktok's are doing it on a performative basis. in this particular one she's making cereal from scratch for fucks sake.

yeah and how did that work out for women in general?

well if its the economic system that's causing the problem, is your assertion that a socialist or communist form of government would alleviate the socioeconomic pressures on the household thus allowing women to return to a more traditional role?
