You know a Menswear forum has jumped the shark when some idiot proposes a group buy or "custom" or MTO item.

The cliche is that it's usually a fuckin' boot!

I don't mind boots, but I find it hard to understand why so many people who suggest these Group MTOs want to get a sleek, formal-looking boot with a Dainite sole and Norvogese stitching or some such thing.

You are not going to wear combat boots with a suit. You are not going into combat with dress boots.

What do they provide over shoes? Nothing unless one prefers a boot, has week ankles, wants a different look
 
So basically they are odd variants of dress shoes for odd conservative dressers like Thruth?

My boot to shoe ratio is about 4-to-one.

If I get drunk this weekend and go on the AE site or some of th jodhpur links Thruth so generously shared, it may go higher.

That's a shocking oversight, and one that you should rectify forthwith!
I do have a brogue boot, but it's in chestnut scotch-grain. I'd really like one in brown shell cordovan.
 
It is a void. But I have not come across one that I have been convinced to buy. I could go Trickers Stow but that is a rather wide boot with and I also don't like the excessively wide welt. I like it to be closer trimmed. That rules out quite a few of the English makers. There is Carmina I guess. The EG Alderley is nice and has a nicely finished welt but I am not wanting to afford that. The C&J Islay is nice but prices here are quite ridiculous, not far off EG.

The other issue is colour. I'd like oxblood or a burgundy and don't see those to often. Don't really like the lighter tans.

I've never been a fan of shell but that is just an emotional response. I spoke once to Richard at Shoe Healer and he is against shell in wet or snowy climates which is against some of the experiences of others that I've read.

It leaves me with an ambivalent feeling.

The cordwainer here won't do a brogue boot because he does not want to buy the tools.

With the damn Canadian dollar plummeting, customs paying more attention to the post and fewer companies willing to lie about the price they declare in the forms, it is an expensive proposition.

I think Skoaktiebowlofsoup is even sold out of the Carmina brogue.

What is a poor iGent to do.

which is why i no have them. they do nothing for me. but when one starts a conversation about brogue boots they have to be mentioned just as you have to mention McDonalds when you are talking about burgers. if i started with the Materna Scotch boot, it would be a downward trajectory from there and then i would just get all depressed again.

more seriously, i can't get my head around welts that stick out so far, even if it s a storm welt. Goyser is far more elegant and does not splay out so far.

always, of course. its not their best meal, imo. ... but the 1 € cheeseburger can save lives. good hang over food. unfortunately "our" branch is too far from the city, though.
 
I've always wanted an RM Williams Chelsea. Trouble is there's no way for me to try any of the wide sizes to try and figure out if they could fit, short of ordering a whole bunch of sizes at once.
