What TV Shows Are You Watching?

Anyone watching The Expanse? Want to like it, but it has too many shitty contrived plot points.
Yes. It's really the only sci-fi on right now that's any good so I stick with it. There's a lot of bullshit but I'm hoping that we'll start getting somewhere when the season ends. Shoresh is a bad bitch.

Patriot: very funny but also very depressing. Had to stop watching because it made me sad. Solid A.

I just finished HBO's "The Night Of" and I can say it's one of the best TV series of those last years (with Fargo, Mad Men and of course the 1st season of True Detective). Great direction, great actors at all levels and a great plot which subtly relies on a structural ambiguity. Highly recommended (for clever people). 9/10.

the premier of Brockmire is on the torrents. i cannot recommend this highly enough. hank azaria sounds like a cross between Jon Miller and Vin Scully and seems born for this role. if they can keep this up for a whole season it might be the funniest thing on tv. must watch if you're a baseball fan.

Who's making it?

Billions is ridiculous and fun. Watching Damien Lewis and Paul giamatti chewing up scenes is great fun.

Riverdale is campy teen goodness. I wouldn't recommend it but if you like soapy teen dramas it's fun.

Big little lies is awful dogshit.

Billions is so unrealistic, makes it unwatchable for me. However, I do find it impressive how they were able to make a show about finance that's at least somewhat interesting.

That's what makes it watchable

Yeah, same as Suits. Imagine if it were show about a bunch of nerdy guys staring at 10 screens for 12 hours straight, occasionally clicking their mouse or typing in a chat window?

That's the reason why all great finance movies are set in the 80s.

So I'm watching American Crime Story about the OJ case. Very good show (A+), but they're all wearing crazy ties. I thought it was just an exaggeration, but it turns out they really did wear those ties back in the days. Was it just an LA showbiz thing, or was this accepted business wear as well? I wasn't around back then so, paging the older gents to answer this very important question doghouse doghouse Thruth Thruth

The 90s were a historical low point for neckties.

I dunno. While I'm not a fan of the ties themselves, I appreciate that men were allowed to wear colours back then. It seems like the 90s were a more hopeful, optimistic era, but maybe I'm just making things up. These days it's all dark navy or charcoal suits with white shirts and navy or grey ties. Very dreary and bleak. Maybe I'll get one or two of those crazy ties if I end up moving to the West coast.

The early 90s were awful on all fronts: neck ties, trouser cut, music and films. Compared to the 80s it was like a return to a 1970s British sitcom set. There was lots of matching tie colour with shirts, that was done also in the 70s, but better then.

Gieves & Hawkes were spot on throughout the decade though, they've deteriorated into some monotone grey boringness for young accountants in a corporate monstrosity now.

I watched this afternoon the two episode documentary Five Came Back on Netflix on the American film directors who went to war in WWII. Brilliant, highly recommended.

Disagree with you about film...The 90s was excellent on that front...

Music was just one big rehash, a raiding of the past dressed up as 'paying dues'

The monochrome look was big... the Reservoir Dogs look for men...Crapola

Your Hero was prancing around in Tonik Mohair...and looking...abso-fucking-lutlely ravishing...!!!!

Everyone outside of the most straight laced bankers or lawyers wore hideous ties like these in the early 90's.

Music was very bipolar. Half was very good, half was awful. It was almost like two different ecosystems at once.

And you assholes sent fucking Oasis over here. We will never forgive.

Let me know what you think of it once you watch
My conclusion from this bit is this show could either be great or terrible. No middle ground. The potential is definitely there, it really depends on how much material the writers are good for. Casting is awesome.

That was retaliation for Vanilla Ice....

...and Nirvana....;

Did you wear those ties? Or were you too young to wear em.

I'm kinda hoping the trend comes back, just to see everyone wearing wacky ties while doing serious bizniz. I predicted the rise of pleats 3 years, so maybe I'll be right about this too.

I did. I had to wear ties for high school.

Honestly, the patterns weren't the worst part. They were all made of super thin cheap silk, couldn't get any sort of decent shape in them.
