What TV Shows Are You Watching?

Thieves of the Woods worth watching?

Finished the first Drac episode- they are definitely taking some liberties with the book, which is fine since we have all seen variations of the story a dozen times already. Nice character development, though I’m waiting for more plot - so far a lot has been setting and backstory.

Did anyone watch Marvelous Mrs Maisel? I don't normally watch Jewish shows. Actually, how is Tony Shalhoub Jewish when he's Lebanese?

Its supposedly popular on that front. As a godless heathen i couldnt care less

I thought you were when you said you spend Christmases eating Chinese or something.

Anyway I finished the first season. It's something I'll try to watch. Some of the moments are a bit cheesy though.

I commented that a Lebanese man was playing a Jewish man on this show. Apparently Hank Azaria will give up voicing Apu on Simpsons because a white man voicing a brown cartoon character is offensive. Did anyone check why Eddie Murphy, a black man, was the voice behind the dragon in Mulan? Clearly that should have been an oriental voice.

I swear I spend 30 minutes everyday on the stair climber at the gym just searching for something I want to watch ... and never actually find anything I want to watch.

My nephew complained that his parents fall asleep by the time they have picked something.

I watched the BBC Dracula that they showed over Christmas. Actually, pretty good and despite the bitter sweet ending, the rest of it was decent enough to be eminently watchable.

Just finished Narcos México. All three series were very good. Colombia has nice geography and wildlife, shame about the corruption and violence.

Might watch El Chapo series next. Not sure might need a different subject matter first.

Its impressive. The reference to the genre of magic realism made by the narrator at the begining of the 1st series is spot-on. Escobar's behaviour was unbelievable.

I hope that's your own television and not the shared one where others suffer through your manic preferences.

I know the Brits on this forum finished Line of Duty already. Series 5 had a bit of a rocky start in the first episode but rounded out quite well. I reckon by this series everyone has been wrongly or rightfully implicated by now so that was formulaic but I am absolutely astonished this series had ties to series 1. The casual viewer would never be aware of the connections that Jackie Laverty's body is still in the freezer.

Are there so many 'bent coppers' it is institutionalised? There are a lot of details.

Is anyone watching/has watched The Witcher on Netflix?

I just watched the first few episodes (one per evening after the kids are in bed) and I'm really enjoying it.

The only downside is that the first season is only eight (I think) episodes and apparently the next season isn't due for another year.

I didn’t make it through the first episode. Seemed kinda preteen dungeons and dragons. Should I give it another go?

Well, I think so. It's definitely not pre-teen - there's quite a bit of gore, violence and some nudity.

The first series is based on a set of short stories and so the episodes are mostly self-contained (with the exception of the princess story arc) but are linked together.

From what I've read on the web, some people are irritated that they had to figure various details out for themselves, rather than having it explained in the series, but I enjoy that and don't enjoy being spoon-fed, or having to sit through tedious expository dialogue to fill in a backstory.

I was tempted to try ‘Bolivar’ as I am not well up on South American history. Then I saw it runs for 60 episodes so I won’t bother.

id rather die.

Why? Granted it is irritating in large parts- creator's fault- but the performances are stellar and it is nice to look at. One of only two or so shows from Amazon.

PS Amazon TV content is horrendous.

Watched the entire thing over a transatlantic flight and it was mostly unwatchable. I also realised towards the end that it is across a few timelines.

I gather it is a video-game adaptation so that makes sense as I don't do video games.

Ms has snaffled both tvs for non stop fucking tennis. And there was actually a few things I thought I might watch.

I did enjoy Dolly Parton - Here I Am the other night prior to tennis. And we are stalled 60% through Dracula due to tennis.

Yes, the Princess story arc is in a different timeline. The Geralt and Yennifer arcs may be in slightly different timelines, too, but it's not as obvious.

The TV series is based on a series of books, originally written in Polish. The characters from the books were then loosely adapted into a series of video games which, to my understanding, are essentially a sequel to the books.

Your missus has got good taste.

Watched The Irishman: In Conversation. What was the point of that? No wonder it's only 23 minutes long.

You got what looks like bourbon and Joe Pesci with his martini and De Niro at the end of the table with his gob open catching flies.

From what ive read thats correct. I never read the books but did play the 3rd game. Quite fun if not a little repetitive.
The show was horribly done. Even tangentially knowing what was going on i had a struggle keeping up with the disparate timelines.

Mrs. Lowry and son

Life of the painter L.S.Lowry.

Does not get great reviews as the script is not well rated.

I found his sad, humdrum life a welcome respite from the ultra-violence of the Narcos series. He worked as a rent collector in Pendlebury, Lancashire and looked after his bed-ridden mother. They had come down in the world. Dark lighting to give a drab effect. He seemed like a decent sort. I thought it was like a Lancashire version of an Alan Bennet play. Lots of concern about class, getting on in the world and the neighbours. Vanessa Redgrave was very good. Timothy Spall has played a painter before - Turner. Might not have international appeal.

That was actually one of the things I enjoyed about it. I liked the way it did not spoonfeed viewers and let them figure things out for themselves (or wait for answers). I was also interested in how the show was going to weave together the strands of the different timelines, and they were going to converge.

Was at the Lowry beginning of November last year, they had posters for the film. You either get Lowry or you don't, no in-between.

I'm a big Lowry fan: that essential northern English experience and the humour, lots of humour with Lowry. And the scale, you need to view some of those city scapes in person. They're big and expansive. You don't get that from a postcard or website reproduction. Same with the depth of his work, he was laying it on thick.

The colour scheme as well, very much in evidence today in Manchester. The red brick work and creamy grey sky.

He did live to see success, and had quite a few bob when he died. But he was one of those lonely specimens when it came to love and relationships.

He turned down lots of honours on the basis that he could not see the point once his mother had died (1939).

He left his money to a girl of the same surname who wrote asking his advice on how to become a painter. They became great friends.

He did seem a decent sort. Holidays in Berwick on Tweed and Sunderland - of all places - but then he saw beauty in industrial landscapes, whereas the mother apparently wanted him to paint still life or scenes that others approved of.

Definitely a decent sort. There's also the paintings inspired from when he went to Anglesey during the war with depression. Unlike his other paintings, just the sea.

There's this as well, the Alice painting, his niece, long lost love, or idealized love:

My arch nemesis father was Lowry's tailor for a time, that I know is true. But his claim to fame was that he stole a number of Lowry's with Johnny Marr from a restaurant they were working in and did time for it. There is element of truth in that as Johnny Marr did have some trouble falling in with the wrong crowd before The Smiths made it.

Anyway, didn't do my arch-enemy any good, he's 5'2'' and about 20 stone now. His nick name is FB for Fat Bastard. Uptown junkie his metabolism has completely stopped. Or did it....

Runs all the dodgy deals on Nordstream for the Russians, the Germans, and the Italians. You mention his name on a telephone line and you can hear the recordings start to play. I kid you not. The clicks start.

You and i differ on that. I didnt mind that there were different timelines. I didnt like that there was no notice or no prompt to let you know. Its not like geralt was changing his hair color or ciri was a child then a grown woman. It was just that he was here with this person and then he was there with that person.

To show you what they look like without the de-ageing technology.

Mrs Fletcher was barely watchable. Horny milf and son learn life lessons as they struggle to get laid.

That sounds like online porn.

I'm watching Chef Show. At first I didn't really like it but now I actually do. They've changed it to focus more on things happening in the kitchen.
