What's Making You Happy Today?

I took someone from our New York office to a speakeasy - it felt weird to show people a concept that was stolen from where they come from but whatever. Anyway, I found the hat I thought I lost hanging on the rack at the back. So opportune. Other than the buggered up mobile and my liver I have recovered from last week.
 
Weight loss goals are still being maintained and although my arm is a bit sore (chronic tennis elbow?), going to the opener for the hometown footy club.
 
I only had 2/3 bottle of a wine and spent the rest of last night doing culinary experiments. I also spent time polishing my shoes for the CEO's reitrement tonight. It's in a centuries old hall so even if the it's all toffee nosed and stuffy at least the decor ought to be good.
 
Just found out Publix had buy 1 get 1 free on Ben & Jerry's pints. New core flavored here I come! This might be able to salvadge my birthday after all.
 
I just found a female sparrow hawk trapped in our fruit cage. Managed to free it successfully. Amazing to see a wild bird like that so close up - they're shy and in any case usually moving extremely fast so are difficult to see as anything but a blur. Beautiful thing.

Little birds get in the cage from time to time and seem to find their own way out but god knows how she got in there. She'd obviously gone in for a snack as I found a dead goldfinch which she must have dropped when I flushed her out.
 
Bringing my own bottle of Bordeaux helped save money last night. The whole meal was only $200!
 
I went to a twenty seat French bistro midtown. Apertif, digestif and three courses meant $200 plus tip.
 
I don't have a lot of money. I just choose to spend most of my disposable income on food. I even stopped buying clothes because I'm trying to save money for something.

It wasn't condescension. Nor was I ragging on you. I was being serious. I'll never have a $200 meal.
 
I'm extremely happy today that my political views are reaffirmed. Less than a decade in the wilderness and I'm back in the mainstream.

Also I found the keys to my flat in flannel suits that I moved to my parent's house for storage. I can go home again!

This has been an awful past year for me but I managed to pull through it better off than before I went in. I'm not nearly as much of a whiny cunt. Whether this has deadened whatever remaining feelings I had left remain to be seen. But even if that's the case, I think it'll be for the better. Because anything would have been better than where I was at a year ago.

Also, I was only tempted for a second to overdose on painkillers. Definitely progress.

Happy belated.

Yesterday, I had a Macallan scotch tasting which started out a bar. 1 single, 2 double chivas.
Then we went to the scotch tasting where we had 1 ginger beer + famous grouse cocktail, 3 chivas, 2.5 macallan (tasting sizes), 1 lagavulin 16.

Then we went to a Japanese ramen place and had a pint of beer.

I made it to work with no ill effects other than being out past midnight.

After 48 hours sobriety I sank a quarter or a third of a bottle of cognac and a glass or two of champagne. Saturday night with jazz and some leftover rubbish from the office seems more palatable.
