What's Making You Happy Today?

Look forward to his next Pitti installment. EFV's part of the official SF Pitti crew now too.

Aaaagh. Well, if EFV's part of the official SF Pitti contingent, hopefully we'll get something more amusing than the previous, predictable, gonzo-journalism-style essays on how everyone's really tired, how they ate too much bistecca, how inside Pitti was crowded and hot and confusing, how they got lost on the way to Pitti, how they drank too much, how they didn't sleep enough, how they were really tired etc etc...

They say there's well dressed unPitti people at Pitti but "no one ever takes photos of them."

My son did the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) level 4 exam a couple of weeks back and he just learned that he received an A+ for the exam.

He's very happy, and so am I!

We also attended the local swimming club awards night last week and he received the bronze medal for the 9yo boys age championship, and he was very happy about that, too. His best friend got silver and I was very pleased to see that, rather than being jealous, my son was instead very happy for his friend.

Congratulations! What does this success mean for him? Will he be touring with One Direction now?

Essentially, it's just a way of grading a person's musical ability so that schools/orchestras have an idea as to the level of a person's musical talents.

The lowest level is preliminary, followed by 1, and the highest numerical level is 8. After that, you can get an Associate Diploma and a Diploma.

My son's hoping to audition for the state's youth orchestra at the end of this year and to do that, he needs to have AMEB level 5 so he's now going to start studying towards that with a view to doing the level 5 exam in five months' time. He already plays in two orchestras at his primary (elementary) school and one community orchestra and he also has to learn pieces for his private lessons, so studying for the exams is quite a large, additional commitment on top of everything else that he does.

Remind us what instrument he plays if mentioned before.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that - he plays the violin.

All of the exams that he's done thus far have been largely practical, although the examiners have tested his general knowledge as well, asking about the pieces, about the composers, about musical notations, the key of the music and so on. There's also been an aural component, where he's had to demonstrate his understanding of pitch, rhythm and other such concepts.

However, before he does the level 5 exam later this year, he'll have to pass a music theory component, which is a separate exam. He's not looking forward to that part very much, as while a lot of it's quite simple, he'll probably have to transcribe a few bars of music and then change it from treble to bass clef or vice versa.

The commies won the " elections" yesterday so i have broken my mobile against the wall.

Anyway i never believed on this masonic democracy, since my vote can?t have the same value than the one of a tacky degenerate or a minoritie.

But what is making us laugh loud ( today on Attolini shirt factory with some friends) is this Spanish aberration

I get a meeting with human resources and my manager tomorrow to speak to my professional deficiency. First thing in the morning. Of course so much care went into this, it had been forgotten, then rescheduled the day of.

Hope that it goes well, Fwiff. Unfortunately, some of the managers in your place seem to have a rather unusual idea of how to manage things.

How'd it go?

I'm happy one of my directs who had a coronary yesterday is recovering. It's crazy or maybe a sign of what people I surround myself with that the moment he recovered he was worried about something he was working on Saturday morning. In fact when he picked up the phone yesterday he kept trying to describe directions - to which I replied I'm pretty sure I'm capable of using Google Maps without any assistance.

It is a fine balance between working hard, trying to make a difference and all of those things we do at work and working too hard.

We are all replaceable and no one will remember us when we leave. Sure there will be moments when someone might think fondly of us but life goes on.

Spend all of your time at work and life goes on without you.
