Not really. For one thing, I said my ideal job leaving uni - which wasn't poverty but I reckon what is minimum to get into middle class.

Truth be told I am simply benefiting from a one time windfall from last year with the corporate component of the bonus. Sadly, that blockbuster deal wasn't renewed this year. The client went in house again. If it weren't for the lower weighted but massively outperforming corporate performance, I reckon I'd be around the same on my individual portion of the bonus.

It's my brother's wedding this year so I answered the question last night.

out-of-the-office good cheer. elections results were good but no matter what the party affiliation is, Saskatchewan is still far too socialist. The NDP leader lost his seat. Last election he almost lost his seat. What was different this time? Caucasian opponent.
 
I was given an assignment to work on mid December to do an objective assessment on operations in the Atlanta office. I was asked to work with other offices to provide different view points - some in the States, my office and folks in Germany. All I received as guidance was a two page Word document. I didn't know what the output should look like other than I was told to produce something that was a hefty Word document.

It's April and I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. The assessment is practically finished with some feedback here and there from executives and sponsors. I have to put together a presentation and close the deal next week. I'm asking for money for improvements - in medical terms, to get out of ICU into the emergency ward and then from emergency hopefully to some place to convalesce and recover. At least the subsidiary should be able to buy time to make that decision.

I sat on the assignment for a month. It was hard to organize some kick off over the holidays. I didn't pay attention to it and got a slap from the sponsors in the first week of January when I showed up to work completely hung over and was trying to BS myself out of the very first sponsor brief. Thereafter, I've been working every weekend on it. In Jan-Feb, Saturday and Sunday - 20 hours or so. In March, at least Sunday, 10-12 hours. I've been staying late on some weekdays just to throw some more hours at it. Part of it is my perfectionist streak - which means I became a lone wolf on this "team" and I ended up dragging everyone with me. Besides spending weekends collecting and sifting through operational data and processes, I still took long lunches from time to time or disappeared Friday afternoons to ruminate at a bar. I guess I'm writing this because I was able to with procrastination and ruminating over drinks come up with a few genius ideas to frame the assessment and tell a cohesive story of where we are, and where we need to go. Flashes of genius I didn't know I still had with hands on work - two flashes to be exact from January to March.

I look forward to the end of April - where I can go back to making sudden disappearances from my office and going on 2 hour lunches again.

The detailed assessment is about 335 pages but before you assume monkeys typed away randomly on a keyboard, this was an end to end assessment of an insurance operation and the template of what to check for each function was about 5 pages in blank form. Fill in 10 pages for opening, appendix and title pages it's not that much.

The summary is about 50 pages and the executive brief is about 2/3 of a page.
 
Did it. I didn't get the 8M but I got what I wanted - and the presentation connected with the audience. They bought into the story. 3 and a half months of work paid off.

Also terminated someone today - almost fell like a movie, "your position is no longer available...". Yet somehow I don't feel anything. Not a thing.

That's two grown men I made cry this week.
 
I survived Friday. There was a communication order to the things I've done in the past two months and someone high up in some office wasn't happy they were lower on the totem pole. Luckily, the hatchet was buried early in the call. Then somehow I managed to have back to back things with two lady friends.

Recovered on Saturday whilst house sitting. I got my tax refund back.

I'm one of those dutiful monkeys who max out my RRSP contributions every year. The problem is my contribution limit keeps growing (okay, maybe not so much a problem) and my current firm has fewer pension contributions than my previous one - even though I make more money.

So every year if my parents don't use up my bonus, the refund and bonus go straight to RRSP in order to kick start the vicious cycle in the next tax year.

I'm probably not going to make it for another ten years so I don't know why I'm doing it to be honest.

Happy today that when my boss visited my department to quell some rumours, my staff basically repeated verbatim what I had passed on about upcoming changes. I was almost compelled to get out of the office and bellow out, "Chaps, are there rumours and dissension here?" but it was unnecessary.
 
I was at a bar having drinks with a lady friend. She had to go. Glasses were taken away and I remained. I cleaned up the place setting and moved seats. About a half hour later, another lady friend shows up and the same thing resumes.

The reason why I posted was because I was with one and the other was messaging my mobile like crazy to meet up. I somehow had to get rid of the overlap and also not look like I'm rushing the one I was with nor ignoring the other.

Cheers - but I'm really an introvert who's socially awkward with a screwed up jaw and at best average looks. Even bad sides and teams get wins on home turf.
