Why Are You Pissed Off Today?

Well bide your time until that actually comes to pass.

As for your overreliance on work to define who you are, that is your choice.

I was 8 1/2 years at the other firm until I gave up on a fundamental discord with my former boss on whether I should be covering up shrapnel, small grenades, anything less than a nuclear bomb.

I'm done and I'm out after 7 1/2 here. I lost my office. I lost expensing things. I lost travelling for work. This year I lose my bonus. I lost my lady friend and her respect that I stayed here. I'm due to lose more and there's only so much a man can take.

I don't want to go in the office next day and lose whatever respect I have. My current boss is on a four year secondment. If he does what he promises, I'm just minding the shop here whilst he expands it when he returns home.

I would not sweat it if your pay packet was preserved.

What will your duties be now?

More time at work or less vs being a boss?

I did 16 years straight as the top boss of 2 organizations. I don't miss being king. No more 7 AM at the office. Plus I can dress like Pauly Chase Pauly Chase now.

I dare you to don some Rick Owens. I SAY DARE!!!!

I'm getting demoted at work. I'm out $1400. I'm down to one lady friend who periodically snaps at me. 2018 - what bloody horrible month so far.

How’d you lose the money?

I remain of the opinion that these women are nothing but leeches upon your everlasting soul, so I see that as a net positive.

Does it matter? It's not coming back. $1400 would have bought a really nice time with a high end escort.

My soul isn't everlasting. It happens I'm very sentimental so closing out chapters to a book is tough. I'm also picking up niggling injuries here and there. Unlike Dorian Gray, I'm actually ageing and my portrait stays the same.

You told us over a year ago they planned moving you down approx 30 floors in the building. Shouldn't be a surprise right?

if you want to be nihilistic about it, i suppose nothing matters. i was just curious what happened.

i admit to not ever knowing this feeling of invincibility as my body has been failing me for decades now. must have been nice.

Almost two years ago. That actually had nothing to do with the restructuring. I have my home company which gives me a pay cheque, benefits, etc. My company is more a matrix organisation so let's say I work in Finance, all the restructuring stemmed from global finance all the way down. The renovations that kicked me off my floor and reduced me of my office was due to the home company trying to adopt an open office space emphasizing collaboration and innovation.

I thought I had an enlarged liver or gall stones or something wrong with the right side around the mid rib cage. It was mostly on the side instead of the front but when I pass out in bed after drinking I'm not exactly sleeping in the best posture. Combined with the cold it gives me a stiff muscle cramp at night. I've been off alcohol for a few days and now I know it's most likely due to how I'm sitting at work. I probably made a slight seating adjustment in December and I work longer hours now so my horrid posture is catching up to me. Irritated muscles and dull ache are now mostly in the back and a bit in the side and moving lower. I've always had hip flexor issues. This morning when I looked at my WAYWN photograph my right shoulder was notably lower. I ought to stretch but I'm too lazy.

Look up costochondritis

Look up costochondritis

That's what my father said I have because I got it 2/3 into a cold or flu or whatever I had from 4th-24th of December. It was so bad at once I couldn't cough without thinking I bruised or broke my rib.

You’re thinking of something different. Costochondritis has nothing to do with illness.

Was on a bender with a mate last night, sitting in a bar. Suddenly my Barbour was gone. My insurance will pay for the jacket I guess.
But come on - I put five years of wear and upkeep into the thing, including having a perfect repair job in the fall. Now I have to start all over.

How does insurance pay for a jacket you forgot by being drunk?

Maybe fwiffo can explain.

Sure. Sure.

Anyway the issue is the same. How does insurance cover it?

It'll be denied because it's a frivolous claim.

My father claimed for a suit once, saying I had knocked an iron over it. He got his claim.

Came across a competitor's PowerPoint presentation on Friday and it's shit hot. It's really pissed me off. We need to up our game big time.

It might be frivolous. Whatever. My issue is not the money, but having to walk in a new jacket, when the one I had was just perfect.

You really have to be over your slidedeck all the time. Being critical and updating along the way, is the only way to stay current. Ugh.

Anyway who would steal a fucking oily Barbour. A homeless bloke with no Taste? Let him have it. Look at the upside , you can claim it as a charitable donation and you’ve got rid of it and helped a homeless guy out. Win alround

Isn't that corporate espionage?

You could say that, I couldn't possibly comment.

Animations? Video? Mind blowing graphics?

Mainly on the graphics and better overall structure. Good Enough To Steal (Gets). We're also behind on the curve ball due to a software initiative all gone wrong i.e. badly specified, wrong vision, wrong developer, delay, over budget and a load of crap. Now we need to make-up for 4 lost years whilst our competitors and any detailed tender analysis with critical elements on IT Enterprise management systems and were in trouble.

Probably had some actual content and not just cliches and catchphrases.

Cliches develop fast in my industry. Suddenly all Mission Statements, Continuous Improvement initiatives, Diversity Policies and Code of Ethics are like stock answers all at a very high level with very little depth and way of distinguishing yourself from the herd.

You guys sound about 10 years behind.

Unfortunately, our business relies very heavily on ISO 9001 terminology to describe our management systems and organisations. I think it's an evolutionary dead end and doesn't deliver a competitive edge. Anyway, whilst I'm loathe to bring in outside consultants, I'm bringing in one to help with my new presentation. A bit of outside perspective is what's needed here.

True. Stupid thing to steal. Mailed with the owner of the place, he will check for it again today.
What would you get instead?

I lost a Lakeland Nubuck leather jacket at a party once, it was in the style that Morrissey and Johnny Marr of The Smiths had been wearing, I was speeding off my tits with some rough looking ladies from Birkenhead at the time. Grieved me something sore the loss of that jacket.

Even fucking SALT is too expensive for a third world country like ours

What a horrible bloody year. I got demoted two levels down. I have to find a new job. My friend defrauded me. I still can feel this niggling rib muscle strain from mid December. And now I have to find a new flat. It's only mid February.

best to get all the bullshit out of the way quickly i always say...

Oh the bullshit hasn't even started yet. There's the break-ups with girlfriends, malignant tumours, muggings, the taxman, the death of relatives, and accidents still to come. And that's not counting horrible disfigurement after a terrorist attack.

I have a feeling my landlord is trying to sell to get me out. Can't find a one bedroom flat in my complex for less than $2100/month including utilities. I'm on $1675 + utilities but last year the government put in rent control so it can't go up very high. I could go for a $1475/month bachelor from 40 year old building or a 383 sq ft bachelor for $1750/month plus utilities. As rents are at an all time peak, it's not the best time to go renting.

My brother suggested I move into one of those condo hotels that come with only a microwave. I still want to be able to cook and the one he suggested is not only known for being a place that hosts escorts but they literally prey on you downstairs in the hotel bar. At least to me these days that's not an amenity.

I believe the point of the thread is to elicit sympathy, and failing that empathy.

My last day as people manager at this firm. Then I'm just some bloke with a hollow title and no authority.

Sounds dreadful...

But that was much worse. Except for the escorts....

It happens all the time. It's a dog eat dog world.

That's why I hate this term colleagues. No one is collegial. If it means making the next mortgage payment or paying their kids' tuition people will gladly throw you under the bus to save themselves.

The world of work was not like that when there was full employment and a good choice of jobs. There were always the occasional r soles, but most people were OK. The race to the bottom has brought out the worst in people. Meanwhile the average salary stagnates, pensions disappear, conditions get worse.
