Agreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

I have always thought navy and black is a "no-no"

Navy and black is classic, formal and the quintessential business combo. But the beauty of navy is that Brown, burgundy and oxblood also look extremely sharp. as long as the brown is not the lightest tans eg bandaid it works well. The forum crowd have strayed away from black but it still holds a place especially for people of a certain age as well as in the UK

Agreed. It also depends on the "navy" of course. Darker navy you really don't want anything lighter than espresso brown or oxblood shoes IMO. Lighter AF blues will look fine with black all the way up to mahogany or dark tan. Fabric weight and pattern also plays a role here. A lightweight plain mohair fr'instance will pair better with tan shoes than a heavy flannel chalkstripe, even if both are the same shade of blue.

And yes, bandaid/baby poo shoes look crap with anything, unless they are suede in which case there are a few exceptions.

Well said.

I only own one navy suit, which is a DB pinstripe. I almost always wear black shoes with it, doesn't look right to my eye otherwise. That may have to do with the formality of it being a pinstripe baller BD though. Come to think of it, I seldom like the way a brown shoe looks when I wearing a grey suit either.... regardless the no black shoe thing at StyFo is ridiculous. There are guys there that proudly claim they own no black shoes. Sure, wear brown more if that if your preference but to not ever wear black shoes is silly.

also the shirt placket is wrong, totally.

What's the issue with the shirt placket?

You prefer a shirt with a French placket? Or you don't mind the general style of the placket but don't think it's made well?

now think of his earrings and untrimmed beard(most of the time).

also the shirt placket is wrong, totally. its a Luxire btw ...

For once I could not see earrings or beard. I have no problem with plackets; I have them. It is simply a nice look. Clean, simple and not embellished. I am sure one day I will like something IS wears too.

fair enough, but I cannot divide the fit pic from the whole pic just because the head is cut out this time.

I'm talking about the wrong placket, anyway.

the look is unremarkable, true.

Explain the "wrong placket" I don't understand

dress shirts, especially with french cuffs - french placket, two hole buttons

casual shirts - italian placket + do whatever you feel that makes you happy

I bet butch doesn't know that ... although its basic knowledge. fresh from the drawing board.

I see your logic and I tend to agree. French cuff shirts with regular placket just look a bit cheap and OTR to me. Fine if indeed you only paid $40 for it OTR but French cuffs deserve a French front IMO if you have the choice - even if your unshirts are only unmade by unLuxire.

Also, as you imply - casual shirts, go with a visible placket, esp. if you have button cuffs or a BD collar. Would like to hear Sartodinapoli's opinion on this from the Kiton dungeon...

Having said that, it's a relatively minor quibble, and this is still one of Sugarbitch's better outfits by a long way.

The traditional placket is still alive and well in North America both for barrel and French cuffs.

Of course I am a tacky

Well it's probably fair (laissez faire?) to say French cuffs are more formal than barrel. IMO they really should only be worn with a suit & tie, with some exceptions. (Don C for example wears FC shirts with tweed sometimes to good effect but generally a button cuff looks better in that context - as evidenced by the fact most of Sugarbitch's FC shirts and shiny cufflinks look ridiculous with his rustic sport coats.)

French front is also more formal than visible placket, and a more natural pairing for French cuffs (as is a fly front for e.g. with black tie rig). The fact that French fronts and French cuffs both sport the same froggy moniker is probably not a coincidence...

Non-placket is for steers and queers I heard.

Which is why you must French kiss strange men when wearing a French front shirt with French cuffs. At least, that's what the man in San Francisco told me...?

Fair point. I am guilty of traditional placket with French cuffs as well as wearing French cuffs with sportcoats. But I swear I only wear Shibumi, NMWA and Raro Meow Meow and other approved AV's accessories.

I also love orange and bright green cords, recycled Oxxford suits and posing while pretending to button my jacket because I can't actually do them up anymore because of my girth.

Since I am in full disclosure mode, I only pose in my home office and post the same two or three I'll-fitting NMWA approved sportcoats. I 3-D printed a JLC watch to wear with every fit and my neighbours are missing their cats 'cause i can't pose a fit without an animal in the picture.

I wear earrings and a scruffy beard. I am Asian and 3 feet tall.

I only polish the toes of my shoes which are all AE seconds. The rest of the leather has been stripped of colour. I have 975 pairs, all of them I'll-fitting.

I only wear TOJ jackets but only ones that I buy used from Mr. Moo

i have the lowest drop crotch pants in SWD history, the crotch actually drags on the ground.

My post all feature the robot pose but only because i suffer from a strange paralysis of my armpits which have cause an overgrowth of the sweat glands.

I will shill your # menswear products for deep discounts or for food or booze.

I secretly edit everyone's posts here.

I feel better now that is off my chest. Which incidentally is larger than average and my waist is tiny compared to normal human males so my drop is inhuman meaning I must only acquire bespoke garments but only from eBay. This is actually easy as most iGents are so ripped that their drops continue to drop necessitating them to acquire new bespoke duds weekly.

that wasn't your question? just because its wrong according to the traditional rules it can be still alive? not?

Traditional rules are for people who are inept at dressing.

Wrong is the wrong word. It is still used quite often meaning that convention is not absolute. it differs from what many might choose to do. There are other fare more egregious faux pas

so, why are we discussing the emperors beard? just don't twist my words, please. its wrong(according to the traditional rules), its not egregious and its not a faux pas per se. of course, conventions are not absolute. they are guidelines, though.

its just funny that people who call themselves an authority in menswear do it. arrived?

Not twisting your words. Provide a reference that says what you state as tradition is the only tradition and the only way and the only rule.

I recommend hitting the local all you can eat buffet. Then we can either work on your Jewishness or haircut.

hey doghouse doghouse , I have a copy of the menu from the sushi joint that Grand Potentate Grand Potentate just ate at. A massive load is being overnighted to me so i can eat it at temple. I just gave one of my Newfies a haircut so tomorrow i am going to Shaniqua's House of Braids to get me an otter weave. Any other tips I should follow up on?
