Agreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

You're absolutely right. Just look at well-known igent Bela Lugosi making a fool of himself on SF last week.

This craze for wearing pocket handkerchiefs with a linen suit, invented in 2012 by igents, has gone too far.

Wearing cufflinks with a linen suit, however, is disagreeable. Besides, this is an entirely different outfit. You're comparing apples with oranges. A PS would've been competing for attention with that tie in that other fit. You have much too learn, young padawan. Observe before you speak, or in SF speak, lurk moar.

as a sarto fanboi hitlers embrace of the autobahn should actually be the one and only argument for roads. ask him a copy of mein kampf if you havent already read it

I have read it. It isn't very good.

I don't recall it saying much on the subject of transportation, although I may be mistaken.

I am keen to learn from one so accomplished. Could you explain, for example, why a pocket handkerchief would be "competing for attention" with the tie in this instance based on the material the suit was made from?

How if the suit were made from a different material the pocket handkerchief would instead compliment the tie?

And why cuff links with a linen suit are now disagreeable, when in the 1930s, that decade of sartorial infamy, they would have been absolutely standard?

Because we're not living in the 1930s. Cufflinks have a certain formality attached to them nowadays, and are mostly for business. A cotton or a linen suit is inherently very casual. Cufflinks detract from that casual image, hence it's incongruous.

Sometimes an outfit just looks perfect, and adding a pocketsquare would just be too much. Less really is more sometimes. Explaining it takes more effort than I'm willing to give right now. I'm sure someone else can do the explaining part. Let's just say that putting a pocket square in your pocket implies that you put in just a bit more effort than if you hadn't. Most of the time that's perfectly fine, but with certain casual outfits adding a hanky makes it look affected. Capiche?

Is your order going through? Did you complete the bank transfer?

he didnt collect the fabrics from matuozzo and i confirmed to him i would buy the cashmeres which i previously thought werent available anymore. he said he would give me his bank details. havent received them yet. i did receive an email with more fabric offers from him which seems to have been addressed to more people. i dont know whether that means hes no longer mad at me. or just that he wants more of my joo gold. i will keep you guys posted

Cuff links are not mostly for business where I am from, although things may of course be different where you are. Round here, cuff links are mostly for linking the sides of one's cuffs.

Ties on the other hand - well, for most people these days I suppose they are mostly for business or work. They certainly have a high degree of formality attached to them, and yet oddly the tie is not held to detract from the inherent informality of of the linen outfit.

Tying the tie takes considerably more effort than stuffing a handkerchief in a pocket. And yet this does not look affected. This is somewhat confusing, so I'm afraid io non capisco.

I guess it's an either or thing. Tie or PS, but not both. 95% of the cases both will be perfectly fine, but for this particular outfit no PS was perfect.

The only people who wear cufflinks casually are slightly overweight middle aged men, and often with jeans.

Come on. That's a stellar fit.
i don't think it fits him terribly or anything like that. I just think that 3 patches on shiny, silky, high super number navy blue worsted just doesn't look right. And if he was being commended for his simplicity and sleekness, I think the patches detract from that.

Those of us blessed with youth must endeavour to remember that middle aged men are also God's creatures.

But I don't see this as a casual outfit, rather the reverse. Linen suits represent a heroic effort to maintain civilised standards of dress even in hot climates that lesser men use as an excuse to dress like children. As such, and in the context in which one often sees them (surrounded by flip flops, bare knees, and T-shirts with writing upon them), they are often really quite formal.

LKP LKP even had a brief man crush on you

Alas! I have been there many times. On these occasions my mind always returns to the words of Whittier:

God pity them both! and pity us all,
Who vainly the dreams of youth recall.
Of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: ‘It might have been!'

Alright, that's a fair assessment.

Given his usually mismatched outfits though, this is like a breath of fresh air.

It is, but there's still much to admire. In these latter days it does one good just to see a proper rise on the trousers.

Do you talk like this in real life?

I think I preferred your earlier imitations of Arnathor pretending to be Sartodinapoli (pbuh).

Becaus lately, good sir, you sound like a complete and utter knob jockey.

Your words are measured and guarded, but with me to divine their true meaning is but the work of an instant.

You find my pronouncements disagreeable? They fail to grip? You have been patient, but every man has his limits, and this blot upon the landscape is to be suffered no longer?

Quite so, quite so. You say to yourself "The musings of this pestilence Crisp, this man of blood, are about the thickest thing I ever struck." 'Knob-jockey' is without doubt the mot juste for one that would subject you to such an ordeal.

Henceforth, men will think of Job, Solzhenitsyn, and Prince Nez in a single thought, and consider that the first two got off damn lightly.

I recommend you fortify yourself with a brandy-based tissue restorer, which will at least still the quivering ganglions and permit you a few hours of much needed but likely fevered rest. You must then decide upon the steps to be taken to bring this persecution to an end. I would counsel placing the matter before the forum authorities and demanding a full and public trial of the miscreant Crisp. Rambo can be relied upon to dispense justice, and the spectacle will add greatly to the gaiety of the forum.

Put down the scotch and step away from the keyboard. Slowly, so you don't get dizzy.

can a suit with patch pockets be agreeable? especially the third one to breast. i think not.

It is a blazer suit as per SF specs based on the Vox design and followed up by Manton.

Tis a slight perversion that will suit AAS should he wear the jacket with some slightly fucked up trousers - say blackwatch - or with his many fucked up trousers - mint green or patchwork madras.

You know this is just a blip and the jacket will appearch in an abortion fit once school resumes in the fall.

As a suit, you are right that the three patch pocket orientation is incongruous with a smooth worsted

But the 3-patch gives one pause to say "well it looks like an orphaned suit jacket but it has patches which is not the RULE..."

It is an aberration but it looks good on him nonetheless because it is conservative and not fucked up like most of what he wears
