The black and white Hamilton is hotThe Miles Davis was the best one, along with the ealier ones. The Charlie Parker one was a good interpretation of bebop in watch form, but the Frank Sinatra one lacked punch. The Chet Baker one was a mistake, as he didn't read sheet music. It was all head arrangements with him.
I like these from Baselword 2017:

Wrist shots please! We would like to observe its majestic "wrist presence"!
Wrong wrist....Awesome, 'wrist presence' does it get a lot of 'wrist action'...?
Wrong wrist....
My wrist or the watch? When are you flipping it?
Gotta be only Overseas on a bulldozer pic in existence, right?
All very nice, but I didn't see my category - under $100Not sure if this has been linked to before, but I found it quite amusing:

I'm surprised that NOMOS make it in under the Tradition heading, they've only been around since 1990. One boring over priced watchmaker that.
A few of us have recently been talking about railroad pocket watches:

NOMOS are Bauhausian. Does nothing for me either, a bit like Bauhaus itself.
Mmm, I like that.
That Longines RR is very tempting. Good price too.
It brings two of my childhood loves together, watches and trains.
You'll need a whistle, and a cap...
Is that the kid from Diff'rent Strokes?

It brings two of my childhood loves together : dwarfs and black kids.
The new VHP Quartz range from Longines, I like the look of them:

Those nice people at Styleforum offer this advice for your consideration

I would have liked something about watch winders though.
I'm going to put my Timex in a safe deposit box .Lol, who could be fucking bothered with all that?

Mrs F. has a few Longines Quartz watches, she likes them. Longines make some handsome pieces, and are a good brand. They've pitched themselves just right I think.
They were haute de gamme-ish years ago however, much like Universal Geneve.
Take a look at the vintage Universal Geneve Tri-compax. Much loved by Eric Clapton I believe.
Stunning thing.

Prefer the heritage version without the inner numbers - less clutter. (Shame about date window)
Prefer the conquest to the heritage. It is cheaper as well.
Prefer Tissot Visodate to Longines. Cheaper still.
Not many of us cheapskates on here though.
Lol, who could be fucking bothered with all that?
They were above Rolex in the 50s and 60s (and well before) and with good reason, fantastic movements and pedigree. The Quartz explosion almost did them in, but even under Swatch ownership that places them in the mid-tier beneath their Omega, but above Tissot brand, they've always excelled. They've always retained a provenance, it's not just a re-imagined brand. Yes, they're in department stores and such like, but they still have tremendous style and status. You can sport a decent Longines in any situation coming-up against high-end luxury watches and hold your own on the horology front.
My Longines Conquest Quartz from the late 80s is on the wrist of my Mother-in-Law. It's still going strong and keeps superlative timing. No servicing, only replacing of batteries and not that often more than 5 years, maybe even 7++.
Pretty much, in the €1350-3000 range they're unbeatable in terms of biggest bang for your buck.
Sadly, your mentioning of Eric Clapton has right put me off the Universal Geneve Tri-compax.
Insane in the membrane, insane got no brain.
Impressive reasoning though: always take the battery out of the quartz watch in storage and remember to get mechanical watches serviced whilst in storage, unless of course, like you do, intend to sell as NOS (new old stock) in 20-50 years time.
The Visodate has a good following and excellent reviews. The Heritage range has some good stuff too.
But you can see what the Swatch Group is doing: pushing Omega up to challenge Rolex, use Longines as a model to bring Tissot up in terms of status. Longines will continue pushing ahead, whilst retaining middle of the market options as a hook to move on up.
It's a paradise for those with obsessive compulsive disorders.
