I was walking past my local dealer at lunch-time today and noticed that they've got a steel-cased, vintage Universal Geneve Tri-Compax with moonphase in the window display.

AUD$4950, which translates to US$3821 or thereabouts, if anyone's interested.

I'd like to like the Seiko Ananta, but I can't. The plain bezel around the dial looks a bit too chunky for my taste and there's a bit too much of a conflict between the dressy (for want of a better word) nature of the moonphase and the chunky, utilitarian nature of the dial.

Also, at the risk of sounding petty, I don't understand why the moonphase function has to be in the silver circle, rather than just having a cut-out window as part of the dial for the moonphase.

The reason why i posted it, is because of the movement it has. I think is the only non Grand Seiko with a Spring Drive movement for less than $1400. Then Again, I'm a Spic and Venezoalien and I know shit!

The 16700 has the best overall package for me - sapphire glass, quick set date and I do not care too much about the independent GMT hand.
Pepsi bezel and the improved oyster bracelet which has that additional clasp.

New Seiko Propex Springdrive, that fucking movement though and that watch is sexy as fuckk

It actually kind of makes sense since it maintains some of the price and the depreciation rate is not as brutal.
 
^ Well, I'll qualify that statement - Skoda values (at least here) tend to drop like lead weights, so the watch should do better than that.

Also, as long as the Nautilus remains trendy and an iGent watch of choice, it should retain value reasonably well although he probably would have been better off with a cheaper, plain Nautilus.

Once iGents and other internet watch people lose interest in overly-expensive Nautilus and APRO steel watches, though, I suspect that the value of his watch may drop as rapidly as that of his car.
