All About Watches

Is this, YOURS? If so, put it back on its correct strap...

Outrage...
Olo as if I would own an ugly aquanaut, let alone with black dress shoes, jeans and a T-shirt. Who am I, Leitmotif?

What do WE think about these Limited Edition Omega's phukers...?

https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/specialities/the-1957-trilogy/product/

I quite like 'em. The old-style lume isn't for everyone but I don't mind it. They are clean, old designs in sensibly sized cases and with good mechanics. You could do much worse.

Still, olo at Omega "limited" edition... limited by how many they can sell?

I quite like the 'naut, 70 style, but I don't like this modern trend for NATO straps and the like...

The pricing on those Omegas isn't actually too heinous. 6500 bucks for the Seamaster.

I would look at the non-limited railmaster as it's a fair bit cheaper and same vintage vibe and works.

Yeah, those Rails are nice. I was more talking about how Omega didn't try for 10 grand for these.

I think in the current market that would be a stretch. Though interesting to note they're about US$7500 in Aus.

You think Omega cares whether it's a stretch? I OLO in your general direction. They were asking like almost 5 digits for the Dark Side of the Moons.

Maybe they've finally figured they'd sell more watches this way.

I think you made my point for me - of course they don't care what people pay but there's a recognition that the market won't sustain Rolex prices for Omegas.

That said, the oyster perpetual 39mm is only a few hundred more than the Raily.

Anyway, I prefer 3 digit Seikos over both so what would I know.

I like the 70s style also but I'd get a (preferably gold) nautilus not a 'base model' aquanaut. The latter is like the Porsche Boxster of watches - if you had the money you'd always get the next model up.

I think that Omega should be selling them at a discount, rather than a premium, as they're clearly saving money using the same hands and bracelet across all three models, and the same dial across two models!

I like the cut of your jib.

some dude on the r-l-x forum found out this:

I went to an AD today and to my astonishment and delight I discovered that Patek make a multitude of different coloured rubber replacement straps for the Aquanaut including:

Black (which we all know and comes standard) ...
and is correct according to your analogy before outrage.
White
Midnight Blue
Mid-Blue
Brown
Grey
Purple
Green
Ice blue
Beige

And possibly more that I did not see in the catalogue.

well, one could argue, just because they offer various colors OEM, there is just one which is correct ..., ymmv.

I remember when a guy talked to the "special" department in maranello they told him: you can order your ferrari in any colour, except pink. if you do a paint job afterward, you'll be extinguished from the list of potential buyers. end of story.

Nice to see that the Rail meets with our approval.

What do we think about bi-metal watches like, for example, the Rolex GMT or Tudor Black Bay S&G (S&M?) ...?

The GMT hand is nice on the ProleX, but you gotta go full DB blazer to wear bi-metal.

Bloody hell, that's old. Early 60s ?
Early '80s (16753, right before they switched to the gold surrounds for the markers instead of the nipples). But you are right. If memory serves, this particular model was launched in the early-sixties as 1675/3. I also have the all-brown bezel ring, which, combined with a dark-brown crocodile strap, gives the watch a much more subdued feel. . . Well as much as that is possible with a two-tone watch!

I like that, a watch with character...

A Prole-X with a bi coloured metal stretchy band is so tacky and over the top it's almost cool.

I like the reduced sizes, but really a Speedmaster the size of the old Redux model for €6800. I do agree they're likely over priced.

In general I am not a big fan. The blue gold Rolex's are particularly blingy. Their GMT looks good and the above 16753 is cool as it's subdued. I do like that Tudor Black Bay though.

God, that seems a long time ago...

I liked the Fun Boy Three too, which was Hall's next project...

IIRC that's the Go-Gos doing backing vox...

SiriusXM plays this every now and again on the First Wave channel.

so are you saying the below three people can't afford a nautilus?

Just been reading the Rolex forum. Jesus, its worse than a clothing forum, but not quite as bad as a Hi-Fi one...

Now, they really are mad...

...chuckles...
