Ask A Quick Question

I have a couple G Inglese popovers that are Italian linen, which are super comfy, but all my button down shirts are Irish linen fwiw.

In my experience, thyrwitt and H&C have decent linen shirts that are not expensive.
I’ve bought a couple of mid-end Italian brands, which weren’t great. Bespoke are awesome ofc

Was just gonna say I recently got a Tyrwhitt catalog / mailer. Dunno how I got on their mailing list but they had some nice looking linen shirts at reasonable prices so might be worth trying them out as a low monetary risk option.

Anyone familiar with the French brand Sandro? It looks like over-priced mall junk at first glance, but I found a raincoat from them that’s pretty cheap on eBay and wondering what tier of quality to expect.

A tick above mall brands but they channel a French skinny vibe. OKon sale I suppose

What is a good source for standard belts to wear with denim these days? My current Don't Mourn Organize belt is on its last legs, and I've lost a few lbs, so I'd like to get something new. For reference:

Similar or lower priced would be preferable. 1.5" harness or bridle or horsehide etc.

Thruth Thruth Dropbear Dropbear you guys keep up to date with this type of stuff.

DMO are still excellent (and still supporting the IWW)

One Star Leather Goods have made all my wallets over the past decade, I’m sure he’d also do a solid belt.

At the cheaper end Hank’s Belts are well made, if you can find something you like the look of.

A lot of guys like Tanner Goods and Ashland Leathers, but the pics don’t impress me that much considering their prices.

DMO is still a solid value under $100. Hanks is $155. I checked Hollows leather but they are up at the $130 mark. One guy, handmade, teardrop holes, just like DMO

If this chick ships to the US, this represents a good value because Canadia monies.

Jeez, when did Hanks get so pricey? Definitely not in the same league as the others mentioned above.

Yeah the DMO was a fantastic belt. I bought that one WAY back in the beginning of my Styfo days. Was just looking to try something new at this point.

Had a tanner as well and didn’t think it was as good as the DMO back in the day. No clue what it’s like now.

Don’t think I’ve ever looked into Hank’s. I’ll check them out.

Definitely not as good, but they used to be cheap. Started off making robust belts for the concealed carry market and then moved up into nicer hides.

As Thruth says, DMO and Hollows are both solid choices.

I remembered that I do have a nice custom belt from One Star that I never wear (the buckle was sharp edges that put holes in tshirts). But his prices are up near Hollows now.

Did you know Tanner was charging $120 a belt now??? +$55 for a brass buckle as well. What are they smoking?

I get inflation but these belt prices are ridiculous.

Did you order a new belt? Who did you go with?

I’m on the look-out for a new braided leather belt that isn’t stupid expensive- but everything seems to be at the two extremes of price/quality.

I hadn’t paid attention to the pricing lately. They all went up, except DMO.

I found this outfit recently. Small shop. 4 workers. $80 USD and you have 3 buckle choices, three finishes. Lifetime warranty. It is full grain Hermann Oak bridle leather, which is a notch below Sedgwick. 5 colours. Upgraded buckles over many outfits.

No not yet. After seeing these prices I decided to hold off for a sale or some kind of discount and just went back to my old Red Wing belts to hold me over until I lose some more weight and need to go down in size again.

Do people still dress-up for jury duty? The instructions say to wear business attire, but then elaborate with no shorts, tank tops, flip-flops, tshirts with offensive graphics, etc

It is usually business casual, which is kinda casual as I’m sure “office jeans” are even ok.

Chinos, dress pants and a button up shirt. Tucked in. Short sleeves ok. Dressy polo. You need to be comfortable.

Of course, big daddy type A courtroom shoes. Hanging shoes.

I have no idea what goes in USA. Perhaps a MAGA Hat in some states?

Here it depends on if you want to get chosen or not. I've been called a few times - if you DON'T want to get chosen wear a nice suit and tie - white shirt. Unless it's a big $ corporate fraud case you will never get chosen. Also give occupation as Psychologist if you don't want to get chosen.

If you want to get chosen - wear the standard, cleanish too tight, thin cotton chinos, clean shirt untucked, clean sneakers. Occupation: Electrician.

How about a maga hat and a blm shirt - then neither side will want me.

as a trial lawyer, yep this checks out.

So just for clarity - and asking for a friend of course! - if you DON’T want to get chosen go business formal?
Curious to know the voire dire thinking behind this. I think that show ‘Bull’ was largely based on this kind of thing but I never watched it.

Update: I was not selected as a juror.

I wore my Big Daddy purple peacock leather shoos, a 40ox heavy tweed suit and a top hat. I also refused to take my shoos off at the metal detector security checkpoint because I’m pure alpha.

so for context, I'm a civil defense attorney, but yeah, we want jurors who are analytical and will apply the law to the facts without second-guessing the law or coming up with their own theories which is what psychologists and teachers tend to do. we want engineers, accountants... electrician is a good example as well.

Interesting thanks SVB!

Again, I've NFI what goes on in USA. But here, employers must pay you while you are on jury duty. Most cases go less than a week - unless it's a big drug (alleged) import mob - bikies, lawyers, accountants, street toughs etc as witnesses and accused. Could go for months.

Many years ago, around year 2000, before #metoo and scandals really broke here Ms FXH was on a jury - took 2 weeks - Catholic priest accused of repeated rape of boy aged around 12. A few of jury refused to believe a priest could do that. Of course, after dismissal, they learnt of the priest's record of church discipline . A bit later he got tried again and convicted of many cases. Died in prison.

It varies by state and county here. Where I am, they don’t have to pay you but they can’t fire you. The court pays you $58 a day (the minimum wage). Since my employer does pay for jury service, it’s bonus pocket money.

Incidentally i ordered a Filson Foul Weather Jacket in shelter cloth over the weekend at 25% off, to replace my worn out Barbour Beaufort. Should have ordered one years ago.
So what do you think of the shelter cloth? I find is way less stiff compared to tin cloth

$300 a week minimum wage?? = $15,000 or so a year?

All Australian workers are entitled to a minimum wage.
This is the least you can be paid for doing a certain job.
It's illegal for an employer to pay you less than the minimum wage.
As of 1 July 2024, the national minimum wage is $24.10 an hour or $915.90 a week (if you work 38 hours).
