Ask A Quick Question

What is does every ones ideal peaked lapels look like? Currently I'm in favour of ones with a really sharp look to them, I also like some structure to the shoulder but I don't mind a natural shoulder on them either. I don't think belly looks that good on a peaked lapel, but I like it on a notched lapel.
Belly on a soft shouldered peak lapel coat thematically makes sense to balance out the coat, but in general I'd prefer a soft SB notched lapel coat to a peaked lapel one if that makes sense.

Question: What are your thoughts on combining gray and brown, as in, e..g., khaki trousers with a charcoal turtleneck?

Grey and brown can work very well together, but I’m having a lot of trouble imaging khaki and charcoal working. I did a quick image search and this is the closest I could find:

Actually, if I remember when I get home, I can take a photo of my grey turtleneck next to some khaki chinos and some chocolate moleskins for a better example.

Yeah, that'd be nice. I've been told it works, too, but I can't quite picture it. Those pics leave me undecided.

Your question is easily answered with a clear maybe.

Khaki can vary greatly, just as dark gray is not all dark gray. In addition, it's not just the colors that determine combinability, but also pattern, texture, as well as the color ratio.

I've often thought to myself, something won't work, then someone came around the corner and I thought to myself, oh, it will.

Well that was well worth it just to learn how badly I put these away two years ago. Some cotton chinos, wool flannels and moleskins in various shades of brown.

The lighting is crap, but you get the idea. IMO, none of these look great, but the darker browns are the best.

Okay, quick follow up question: What trouser color would be ideal for a charcoal turtleneck? Maybe olive?
Possibly, maybe a very light grey too? Associate turtlenecks with 60s and for a time in the 80s fashion. Was considering buying one before Christmas, but they didn't have my size.

Thank you. I agree that the darker browns look better. That stone in the first pic seems a possibility as well.

Question: Is the length of this jacket (color's navy) still acceptable? My alteration lady shortened it 1,5 cm more than what I asked.

I want to buy a samue. By chance anyone with experience here? Any useful hints welcome…

out of curiosity, why do you want one?
No convincing reason… I want something comfortable to wear at home and this might be a good alternative to a gown. Could also use it for gardening and stuff like that. Looks nicer than sweatpants or other „loungewear“ imho. Have a slight interest in Japanese stuff, that’s how I encountered it. So basically just for the heck of it.

Interim conclusion: 1. I am WAY too tall for 99% of the Japanese stuff. The one's where the length might be ok are for people of Sumo proportions 2. This is a great overview of what's generally available with regard to fabrics https://www.samue-e.shop/ 3. I'll now buy the cheapest non-plastic one that might possibly fit (unlikely) from here https://www.seidoshop.com/ and then either I have something (with alterations) to start/try or at least I have a dummy that I can give to my tailor

I don’t know what your intended use is, but here’s an alternative approach: I had my alterations lady make me a samue pyjama based on 1. Regular pyjama trousers and 2. A Muji short-sleeved pyjama top (jinbei style). I added a pocket

looks great! Mainly will use it to hang around at home, plus for gardening work in spring/summer. I'll visit a Muji store sometime next week, online they only have a size S in my country. The pyjama trousers are from Muji as well, I guess, because it seems to be the same fabric?

Also found out that at least some Japanese stuff is available in a size called TL, which is a (Japanese) L for tall people. Not very common, unfortunately.

To clarify:
I gave the alterations lady a pair of common pajama pants, the Muji top, some cloth I bought, and she made the above

Question: Who makes grenadine ties of good quality other than the usual suspects ?(Marinella, T & A)
Preferably in the EU, as I would prefer not to pay import charges?

Why-ya wearin' a scarf with ya jimjams?

I thought as a Steak Munchin', Malbec swiggin' ,Tango dancin' Latin-luv-machine you'd have that hairy chest on FULL show...!!!!

I don't have the mocs yet. Just curious how versatile they are. I know they're casual, but I'm wondering if they can push into the business casual range.

How hard is it to do some basic sewing machine stuff?

I’m not looking to start a new hobby or learn a new skill, but I have some old shirts and trousers that I could breath new life into rather than throwing them out but turning them into shorts, short sleeve shirts and/or adding some basic darts to take them in. Nothing worth paying the local tailor to do.
