Car Talk

What's the benefit of leasing?
you're not stuck with something to sell. you can change cars frequently. the dealership takes care of everything for you. there are downaides though.

If you're buying a Jeep, don't look behind the car while the parking break is on, lest you end up a fucking pancake.

The only thing I can get new at my max budget is a RAV4 XLE. I need some all wheel drive. Might look at subaru xtrek, but I want something a bit luxurious this time.

i could also put down 15k and finance and get something in the 35k range, but I really dont want to do that.

A 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STi should be in you budget, and it's all wheel drive

I saw a few that are priced reasonably, but I am too afraid to buy them since I have no idea of the previous owner(s)'s driving habits.

I am going to continue to look, if I can make it pass this winter, then I will just buy something in the 30K range next year all cash instead of financing.

I saw a black, lifted Jeep rubicon today. Looked very nice. Would definitely consider it if you don't drive long distances.

If I can save up about 35k for a car, then I am leaning heavily towards a New Tacoma Crew Cab 4x4 6 speed.

The old Tacoma was the bomb. The new ones are really inefficient and are overpriced in my estimation.

They have pretty good reviews from what I hear. Are you opposed to a full size?

Anything full size crew cab, I am looking at 40k at least new. If I buy something next year, my max budget is 35k.

Out of all the full size trucks, I like Tundra and F-150 the most. Dislike the Titan the most.

Titan is garbo.

I just bought four 150's, XLTS, for 31k each. They were extended cab, which is the middle. I think the crew cabs were 34k. 2WD though. I think 4wd is about 2 grand or so more.

Really, that is cheaper than I thought.

That seems cheap. Is that some sort of bulk price you get through Ford?

Are you in some sort of construction work?

It's a good price, but nothing from Ford corporate. Just my dealer looking out.

There have been ridiculous subsidies on vehicles this year in general. It's been on the news quite a bit.

I just looked at a local dealer's site, you are on the spot, there are so many discounts on F150 currently. So a XLT crew cab 4X4, ecoboost V6 for 35k, and comes with a tow hitch, not that I am going to tow anything. But damn that is a good price.

Yeah, there you go. The car makers have been catching heat for all the discounts. Trying to.move product but not making money.

The Ecoboost V6 is a badass engine too btw.

Ford's quality? My cousin has a Fusion hybrid and she likes the it minus a minor bluetooth connection issue. Out of the Big 3, I actually like Ford the most, but never owned one so not sure of long term quality.

The current quality is very, very good. The finish on these 16's we just got is top top. Chevy/GMC pretty good too. Dodge is shit.

I find Ford's interior finishes much more refined compared to Chevy. Never sat in a GMC before, but assuming it is similar to a Chevy. Not a fan of Dodge in general.

I had a F150 before my acura. 160k miles. My dad got it brand new in 2001 then gave it to me and lasted till 2013 when i sold it. Out of all the car makers in the US or the world, ford is probably top top when it comes to consistency. Pauly Chase Pauly Chase

I'all second doghouse doghouse . The F150 xlt is a nice ride with a nice array of options. The Ford Family pricing deal was crazy. I paid the same for the F150 ($44K CDN = $33K USD) as I did 10 years ago for my Tundra.

I am going to go by Ford's dealership tomorrow, not sure if I want to finance 22k currently, but if the rate is good, then I might seriously consider.

Glad did not buy the G37s the other day.

Finance rates were really good when I bought. Wouldn't be a bad idea to finance it and save your cash for other things. You'd pay a pittance in financing

I need to budget carefully. Got some huge expenses coming up before the year ends, going back to the old country for 2 weeks to visit grandparents and visit, don't want to rack up too much car debt and cc debt.

Will try not come back a commie and liberal.

Have had old Tacomas and a newer one. Got rid of it as it just wasn't the same as the old ones

I've lost faith in Toyota

Yep. I was a big Toyota guy for years, but current Toyota is like all the worst parts of 90s US makers. Just bloated and clunky.

Well inflation is 2% ish, if you get the 1.5% or so rate Grand Potentate Grand Potentate quoted you are actually making out ahead.

I'd use the banks money whenever possible.

well, current CD rates for a 36 month term are hovering around 1.3-4%, so you can't quite beat the loan terms but you can damn sure come close.

hell, even on a 1% savings account you can do damn well against a 1.5% loan.

Exactly. Oldest platform out there and showing its age and lack of refinement
