Christmas 2015

Even after going to bed at 1am, woke up today at 6, laundered, ironed and did 45 minutes on the elliptical. Walked to work, passed by the French pastry shop and bought a smoked salmon croissant. I have two calls today before I go with one of my ex project managers at a competitor to get smashed at lunch.

Financial district is pretty empty. Still in my dark suit, white shirt, dark tie, pocket square.

Mail it or put it on the bus to Hamilton

As much as I like to think Hamilton is a rail station with a population of one, I reckon it's bigger. I haven't been by in ages though.

Just had two whiskys and a glass of wine with an old work mate at the club. Smashing day. Steak frites - with the frites.

Tried to look for a bar before I jumped on the train but everything was closed, even the nearest hotel bar. I went on the nearly empty express train (regular rush hour, not early rush hour) and ended up being on the bus by myself going to my parents. I wanted to go to the pub for a pint but the fact that Subway, coffee and other fast food places except McDonald's and a Chinese takeaway place were closing wasn't promising. Having a Glenfiddich French Oak bottle. What happens to the poor bastards who haven't any family? What will I do in late bachelorhood?

I left my lighter and cigarettes at my flat. I'm going to be a saint the next four days.

Watching Family Man - 2000 movie with Nicolas Cage. Good God, if I manage to keep living, I might be this bloke. Meeting till 8:45pm, Christmas Day meetings, walking home alone to my flat in the city on Christmas Eve to find some escort waiting for me.

Just been up country for 3 days and 2 cars with 6 overseas visitors 2 who don't speak English. The are staying with us so we are having a pretend Xmas lunch today, ( none of us are xtians,) as we had 2 extended family get together s last week. It's 35c hot bad North wind. Bushfires down coast already and evacuations of beachside holiday makers.

Tonight we will have "gourmet" for dinner, which is a set of small pans that you put in the center of the table and everybody cooks his/her food. Apparently this is a big deal in Holland, ConchitaWurst ConchitaWurst please confirm...
However I would prefer being by my mother and take care of the roasted lamb and potatoes she has been preparing

dear Sanchopanza Sanchopanza merry christmas to you! whats keeping you in holland this time of year? the gourmet is a very big thing in holland. and even though we've resisted for a long long time, we've finally given in to our kids' beggings. apparently we were the only parents in school w/o a gourmet. so on boxing day we will be enjoying cookings from our own brand new gourmet set

i hope the people you are at did get some good meat from a decent butcher which would make your gourmet experience a little more agreeable

Merry Christmas to you Conchita and to all the forum.
I am in Holland visiting my wife's family.
My bother in law wanted to buy meat at the Lidl, but fortunately we ended up at the butcher. My idea was to make a portorican style pork shoulder, but everybody else voted for gourmet.
You definitely have a better set than we do!

And another thing, Sydney isn't Australia and bondi is just a shitty suburban beach in Sydney.

No frikandel for me, but the other day I had herring sandwich with onions and the burping was non stop, very uncomfortable.

In a couple of days I will fly to Rome to pick my Carlo Riva pajamas...

Finished 3 hours of Christmas for my old Muslim work mate and his family. I had to wait because his daughter needed to draw a picture and write a card to me. Finished gift exchange at my parents with my brother's fiancee. Off to the big bash at my aunt's now.

Well given the proximity to chinamen countries my guess would be some type of chinamen. Most likely they communictated in the international language of love :

FRIEND
Hey, baby, you got girlfriend
Vietnam?

FXH

Not just this minute.

FRIEND
Well, baby, me so horny. Me so horny. Me
love you long
time. You party?

FXH
Yeah, we might party. How much?

FRIEND
Fifteen dolla.

FXH
Fifteen dollar
too boo-coo. Five dollars each.

FRIEND
Me suckee-suckee. Me love you too much.

I'm still drunk. I thought those blue fxh responses were links.

What's the drink count so far?

I stayed enough that everything was finished with my cousins. The beer. Three bottles of cremant. Two bottles of red. Bottle of single malt.

Is anyone doing shopping on boxing day?
I came down to the kitchen at 6:20 am and my father was already out and finished going to the bakery to get bread. He said he was disappointed the 24 hour supermarket within walking distance didn't open yet.

One tradition was broken. We aren't going out Boxing Day. I stumbled home last night, but I am amazed how muscle memory works vis a vis alcohol.

My fav quote so far

It opens at 9am for Boxing Day, but I went by again and they closed tonight. They ought to say "24 hours with reservations".

So I thought I left my aunt's place around 23:30 last night. We had one hour of cocktail time, then an hour or so of dinner, then an hour or so of opening gifts. It was 2100 by the time we officially finished. My parents went home and a lot of us lingered to have a digestif. What happened then was the opening of two more bottles of bubbly, one more bottle of red and finishing of the beer and 4/5 of a bottle of single malt - at least that's the state I saw it before I lost track of it.

When I woke up and had breakfast, my mother asked me what happened after she left and I acted quite reserved as I usually am, "Nothing much happened. We didn't talk about much. Then I went home."

What apparently happened was this:

One of my cousins said she was drunk, but said okay, let's split another bottle of red. She couldn't drive home. She couldn't even get to bed upstairs. Her husband apparently said she's too big to drag upstairs so he dragged her to a sofa and left her there.

One of the cousin's husbands was a beer drinker. I bought the beer he wanted but only three cans and afterwards, peer pressure meant he started indulging in wines and hard liquor. For the latter portion of the night, he was staring at his drink rocking back and forth saying, "Oh God, I shouldn't have done this. I should have stuck with the beer. I shouldn't have mixed..."

Finally, one of my other cousin's was notable for his increasingly loud volume of speech. About 10 decibels higher every thirty minutes he was on peak alcohol.

I feel like Bacchus being such a bad influence on everyone.

I never get this nonsense people talk about "mixing drinks" - its fucking alcohol.
It can be measured in %.
But its still fucking alcohol.

Higher volume of fluid with beer easier to come out if liquor follows, common sense eh?

Or in other words, when you start drinking, the higher alcohol content of liquor will make you drink it more slowly. Once you're intoxicated, however, you will drink a martini at the same pace as a Mich Ultra, which will result in consuming significantly more alcohol in the same amount of time than if you begin with beer and stick with it.

Therefore, you have a higher likelihood of getting catastrophically drunk if you switch to liquor after drinking a sizeable quantity of beer. However, if you begin with liquor and switch to beer, the beer will, in effect, slow down your consumption of alcohol and you have less of a chance of getting catastrophically drunk.

Can someone translate this to english please?

Can you lay off the bottle for a day or two? Here:

Sober, you drink beer faster than liquor. Therefore, although the alcohol content of the liquor is higher, the alcohol intake is roughly the same.

Drunk, you drink the two at the same pace because you don't taste the alcohol as much. Therefore, drinking liquor when you're already drunk is going to get you violently drunk much quicker than if you were drinking beer. Because liquor has a higher alcohol content.

I actually have a graphic in mind if you are still having trouble grasping it.

What sort of idiot drinks wine like beer or vodka like beer or whisky like wine or liqueur like coffee or beer like water
