Corduroy

I grew up in the 70s wearing bell bottom apple green cords.

What’s not to love? Cords, moleskin and wool flannels are comfy, warm, tough, and wrinkle resistant yet look dressier than jeans and cotton chinos. Even five pocket cords are a step up from denim in formality.

What’s called moleskin here in Oz - especially R M Williams is much smoother like twill than proper English. moleskin. I had a pair of English moleskin trousers I had to give away. They felt like being in sauna even in winter.

I’ve always had cords. Always will. Not very fond of wide wale baggy cords.

I have cord sports jackets, cord trucker jacket, cord shirts, cord shacket, cord suits, cord jeans, cord trousers.

Yes! When I got a pair of Brisbane Moss moleskins after wearing RMW I was kinda shocked. It felt like a cheap velour with a plush shag on the outside and a bit rough on the inside. I wouldn’t say they they were particularly thick, either. Very different to the RMs, which are more of a heavy twill that is brushed on both sides.

You may be right, but it'd bug me. I'm going to order another pair today. I guess the two cloths were different batches with the time the garments were ordered apart. Maybe dyed slighty different or it might just be because the trousers have been worn a bit and cleaned, in which case it'll all even out over time.
So after the order was cancelled for some reason so I reodered. After waiting forever I collected them last Saturday, raced home and their the same fucking shade as the trousers I already have. Well pissed off. But all is not lost...I went to see House of Gucci Friday evening. Cracking film. Mr. G rocked a brown cord jacket with dark blue trousers and sky blue shirt. So my dislike of a cord jacket being worn as a sportscoat has changed.

Pulling out some clothes to decide what to take to the dry cleaner and tailor for an upcoming work trip. It’s going to be a very casual dress code, but there will be an opportunity for some pics with some minor celebs. I think this new cord jacket is going to be ideal for travel and fairly casual wear!

This was the first winter in years that I haven't worn Cords. I have dropped down two sizes recently and I only have Chinos in that size.

Was in The English Hatter the other day, they have some alright chinos, but they were telling me that was summer gear and get some of this instead: heavy weighted corduroy and moleskins. It would have to be seriously freezing for me to wear those pants.

I actually don't disagree with him this time. I have a number of cord suits and I've been wearing them a lot more now that the office feel has gone down a notch in formality.

Also, for a bit of smarter dress up when going out at night or weekends. It has a nice smart chic feel to it. Ie last night I went for dinner with a friend and I wore a dark blue cord suit by Dalcuore (so relaxed Neapolitan cut) with a white cotton henley underneath. Damn tacky, I know.

I have a pair of corduroy trousers made from the Holland & Sherry 22.5 oz book and the material is like nothing l have ever experienced in corduroy. It feels really thick soft and luxurious. Next year l am going to get the Porter & Harding 25 oz corduroy made into trousers, will be really exciting to see how those go. These things are what dreams are made of.

Corduroy is king and moleskin is monarchy, or something.

Corduroy, moleskin, tweed and flannel are still the basis of my work clothes. For me, it hits at the right degree of informality for a work environment. And being country clothing, it’s all low maintenance and not fussy.

I’ll wear cord trousers in summer, if I’m going to be in aircon all day. The cord sportscoat is actually not too warm, but would still look weird in a Texas summer.

I have no need for casual suits, but if I did then a fine wale corduroy one button notch lapel number would be in my closet.

I know most here think fairly wide wale, soft corduroy for trousers and sport coats but how about Bedford Corduroy? Sort of the unknown stepsister to cotton twills, but it looks pretty nice in a five pocket pattern. I’ve toyed with the idea of olive Bedford cords for many years (first or second page of this thread, I think).

Was just investigating Bedford cord. Never heard of it until about 15 minutes ago.

This bloke talks about it here. Note that he mixes up Bedford cord with whipcord. See at 2:30

They would probably suit a bloke like you. For me it is a bit too modern looking. If l do cords l want thick old cords.

A lot of winter sales on right now and I am low-key looking for a pair of tan/light brown or maybe a very dark green 5 pocket cords in a thin to medium wale. There are a gazillion brands doing them, but they are all sweatshop junk and/or super slim fit with spandex.

I gave up on trying to find good cords in Oz. As you said, too many sweat shop garbage and nothing like `real cords', + the silly slim fit design which defeats the purpose of having cords. The cords in most shops are utter garbage.

****Update on my luxury cords****
My Holland & Sherry 22.5 oz cords feel so unique. They broke in quickly and are soft and heavy. Cut for a generous fit.

I am planning to order a 25 oz pair of rust cords in coming months. Hopefully they will pair o.k with my sportscoat made from this fabric
