Improving DressedWell.net

Gentlemen its time for the forum software renewal and we're short on funds by a significant margin. If you haven't donated yet, and feel the forum is something you enjoy, please chip in. Even something as little as $5 helps out.

a couple of housekeeping notes:

-i finally got around to getting rid of the Troll user group. it was a long running joke that had gone on too long. now we only have supporter and moderator as user groups which can both be tagged with the appropriate group tag. apologies to those that found it offensive or those that really enjoyed the joke. we'll keep an eye on the anti-semites to see if they need a tag in the future.

-the green color is now gone as well, so that's a plus.

-i added in a little tag to the thread letting people know who the thread starter was. You'll see the little OP tag on the upper right by the online icon:

-lastly, i finally got around to promoting doghouse doghouse to moderator. had given him all the powers but not the title for some odd reason and had been on my to-do list for months now. sorry to all parties involved in this tragedy.
 
someone asked me about classifieds. what about making a sub-forum full of them like this:

we could use the labels in front of the threads to help sort things. is this something you guys have interest in? the separate classifieds section never saw any use by itself but maybe if its integrated?

Sure, but who of the 5 users are we going to sell stuff to?
 
Looks like the best way to implement it. Same ux as the rest of the site helps the integration I think. Selling ugly ill fitting shit, is pretty popular on SF right?
Would also enable FriendCustomer and ConchitaWurst ConchitaWurst to offload some of those elite fabrics to me. We all win.
 
I setup the classifieds forum now. Only have four prefixes for now - buying, selling, sold/closed, and ebay listings. We can always expand on this later. You have to choose a prefix when creating a thread. The prefix list at the top will allow you to sort out which threads you want to see. Its bare bones for now but if you guys want me to build it out more just let me know.

Im using mobile to access the site most of the time. Missing a forum list in Menu to the different forums. Would save me a click and remind me that forum x is there.

which menu and where do you want to jump to? is the little slide out menu not working? mobile platform?
 
IMG_0447.webp The "burger" Menu in the left corner slides out just fine.
Looks wierd that it is filled with tools, but no direct access to forums (ie forum list), but we have to press the forum link.
Another option would having a forum list on the frontpage above the fold.

I think I see what you mean. From the home page you want to jump to the forum directly. I'll look into adding that. For now just change your bookmark to www.dressedwell.net/forums

Most people don't realize it's there. Even still I did put in a word with the developer about the redundancy of the menus. Will report back. He's busy working on styleforum at the moment.
 
A couple of quick updates:

-I killed off the forum home page. It was really a long time coming as the widgets were busted and the view was pathetic. This might come back some day. Dressedwell.net just lands on the forum now.

-the world clock is gone. Sorry fxh fxh but it was using up resources and causing a few issues.

-I've had a few requests for features that StyFo have rolled out. If you have anything you like there, let me know. It's likely some custom work so keep In mind that it might cost some money to get it here.

yes other things could be added. what are you looking for? i can get a slightly more detailed recent posts widget but its $10. there are a few other basic options built in.

I'll ask about moving it up to the user bar but i don't think it can be done. Do you want it up there so it floats down the screen with you when you scroll?

i would like the icon to be there all the time w/o having to ho back to the forum main page
 
I like the world clock to see what hours fwiffo was not drinking and when monkey was wearing bespoke suits and sockless low vamp tassled loafers in his small flat alone.. Maybe there could be just a link to a world clock?
