Insane Religious Stories In The News

I have often likened Putin to St. Constantine the Great. One priestly friend of mine likened him to St. Alexander Nevsky.

Constantine organized the first ecumenical council and out of that came the Nicene creed. I doubt I will see Putin be capable of that in his lifetime. Yes he ordered the Russian patriarch to Rome, but that hardly constitutes an ecumenical council much less a meeting that addressed any religious dogma.

I've only been to an Orthodox church once for a funeral. I actually kissed the cross. A muslim coworker ahead of me in the queue did it at the end of the service and I couldn't fathom how a believer of Muhammad could do it to avoid social rancor, and an atheist myself couldn't. From what I understand, there are more hymns (due to the brief Byzantine revival) during service rather than chants but the misogyny, patronage and corruption is about the same.

The governor of Oklahoma created 'Oilfield Prayer Day' in hopes of saving the state's oil and gas industry

The religious right has a lot to pray about these days: the overdue rapture; babies they'll never get to know; the rise and impending fall of documented coveter of other peoples' wives, Donald Trump.

But right now, they're praying for the oil fields, which are in such an imperiled state that Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin — an avid Trump supporter — named Thursday Oilfield Prayer Day, inviting her constituents to appeal the Lord to show mercy on its oil and gas industry.

When Oilfield Prayer Day was initially reported in October, it applied only to Christians, but on Monday, Fallin widened her call to prayer to include members of all faiths, the Associated Press reported.

This because Oklahoma's oil industry is flagging. Slumping oil prices have hit Oklahoma particularly hard. But according to Reuters, during the boom, cash wasn't flowing into the state's reserves so much as into the pockets of a few. Now that the boom is over, oil barons still enjoy enormous tax breaks — to the tune of $470 million in 2015. Government services instead took the hit, with some public schools now operating only four days a week, so low is their funding.

"There are many people suffering right now who have lost their jobs in the energy sector ... there are a lot of families who have been hurt, and I think prayer is always a good thing, for anyone," Fallin said, according to the Associated Press. So, rather than praying for those families — or reconsidering those low, low oil tax rates — Fallin is rallying good Christian folks to pray for the oil fields themselves.

"We have a saying: The oil field trickles down to everyone," Oilfield Christian Fellowship member, Jeff Hubbard, told the Washington Post.

But, as Reuters' report indicates, that's not really true in Oklahoma. Despite his industry's nose dive, oil tycoon Harold Hamm remains the richest person in Oklahoma with a net worth of $15 billion, according to Forbes.

In any case, people are tweeting their unfiltered thoughts and prayers in honor of Oilfield Prayer Day.

The oil fields were not available for comment.

Here's an amusing story: One of my best friends hails from West Virginia. Shortly after completing college, he took a brief gig as a high school teacher. One day, he was chatting with one of his male students when a very pretty blonde came along, greeted the male student with much warmth and flirtatiously "gave him the eye." "Well, that looks like something well worth following up," my friend exclaimed to his pupil after she had gone her way. "Not that one!" he replied emphatically. It seems he had wished to date this girl and she agreed if he would attend services at her church. Understandably, he readily assented. Everything went along fine until the elders brought out a large box of venomous snakes, whereupon the lad literally ran out of the church. He wanted no part of snake handing and snake handlers. Can't say I blame him a bit. Back when I was more enthusiastic about women and sex (a period spanning about 50 years), I certainly wouldn't have draped rattlers or copperheads on my person for the most alluring woman in the world, whoever that might have been at the time.

Mormons in India

Apparently they exist. Somehow when I think Mormons I think Mitt Romney. How many signed up because they knew they could get multiple wives?

Because he's religious, and you aren't.

Pre-Aztec 'Flayed god' temple uncovered in Mexico

"Archaeologists in Mexico say they have made an important discovery, uncovering a temple to Xipe Tótec - the pre-Hispanic 'Flayed lord'. Historically, throughout the region, priests paid tribute to the deity by wearing the skin of human sacrifices."

And that's why some civilisations deserve to die off...

^How dare you insult my indigenous kinsmen! Everyone knows that they were living a peaceful, harmonious, Eden-like existence before the arrival of the white devils, spearheaded by the Spanish Conquistadores.

This is my feeling when people extol Rome like it wasn't some abject shithole. It's a place that literally was entertained by watching wild animals eat people. At least the Toltecs were being insane religious types.

^Good Lord! I am most assuredly no fan of AOC, but these cuckoo-clocks are an embarrassment to both the Christian religion and conservative politics!

They self-identify as 'cuckoo-cucks' now or 'incel', should the occasion suggest a bit of formality and decorum.

In a casual setting the term 'dry dick' is friendly, familiar and sure to promote conviviality.

I took this from the piece, the commies are worried that the good Christian folk will turn individuals against the ''ideology'', and what is that ideology, it's the very mad and bad socialist communist state that AOC is promoting: ''The danger, I think, in people like this spreading their message is that it can reach people who don’t for whatever reason have their B.S. filters tuned-in properly. If someone is easily duped into believing conspiracy theories, they can be poisoned against an ideology to the point that they can be radicalized against it.''

From my perspective, there are demonic archetypes at play protecting the very communist state of subjugation that is AOC's Green New Deal.

We can only hope the demons will help us prevail agains the forces of religious resistance. VIVA LA DEMONIC LIBERACION!

there are demonic archetypes at play

Okay, okay, okay... I post here irregularly so you must have a reputation/online-personality that I am unfamiliar with. I missed the gestation of the Pimp. I get it, now. You're a heel... the rudo.

I like it, you're doing it right, you're a healthy bacteria in this system.

Also, 'demonic archetypes were at play' is my new excuse for everything.

its surprisingly convenient. plus in this nutbag shithole country there's no telling who will actually believe you. hell you might even get let out of the cuffs if you get one of these lunatic christian cops.

It's the Pimp version of the "Acts of God" or "Force Majeure" clause when you do long-term parking at the airport.

I love it, it's great, monetize. Put it in contracts, trademarks. Send it somewhere stupid. Utah; Montana; Church of Scientology; Harper's Ferry, West Virginia; just north of Spokane... get it out to all the window-lickers..

I tried to popularize a phrase about a decade ago: "everybody has to suck it sooner or later". Similar. Didn't pan out. Didn't fucking pan out.

I know it's considered nutty by sophisticated people, but I sometimes wonder if demonic possession isn't as good a hypothesis as any to explain some of the irrational evil that occurs. I'm thinking of that German pilot who flew an airliner into a mountainside because he had been feeling depressed or most of these mass shooters.

Religion does a lot of good for a lot of people. Sometimes it doesn't. I don't personally adhere too closely, but I understand why others do. I actually think relenting to a higher power would be a relief.

Demonic possession? Reaching.

Thanks, I'm one of the quick break the mold before we go into mass production types.

We're living in an era where the topography of the psyche was mapped in the dense alchemy of William Burroughs. The storming of the reality studio with the current disruptive technologies and challenges to the MSM and narrative is straight out of Burroughs. It's about seizing control for your own good and salvation.

That was a very tragic event, but client/patient confidentiality trumped everything and shouldn't have because there is always the get out clause on if you're going to harm yourself, or others. Then they can turn snitch.

Youve never heard of the black israelites?

No. Then again I only ever watched Prince of Egypt. They were all kind of dark or as Berlusconi described Obama - well tanned.

Judaism is the only religion I know that associates itself or is associated by others with a race. I could be a green Muslim as long as I convert.

But is "Jewishness" really a "race"? Yeah, some Jews "look Jewish," but many others do not. Of course, many people who identify as Jewish do not practice the religion. I have long thought that Jewishness might best be defined as "an ethno-cultural identity with a religious foundation."

For the record, I look pretty Jewish and have often been taken to be Jewish, but I have no Jewish ancestry that I am aware of, certainly none recent. I do have some American Indian ancestry. Recently, one of my best friends, whose father was a child star in the earliest days of Hollywood, told me that in the Western movies of that era the Indian roles were often played Jewish actors because their profiles resembled those of the Native Americans, and so this may account for my "looking Jewish."

Does that mean God has lost patience with humans as well?

I meant the Pope is some special representative of God in the Catholic world yes? If he has no patience for this woman, then I equate it to God doesn't either.

it became a mosque when Constantinople was conquered by the Turks. It has been officially referred to as a museum since the 30's.

They kept the name. They obviously knew it was sacred.
