Umm, they didn't win. They actually lost really bad because they profusion of these cartoons just exploded, and the paper just got a humongous boost.
 
The backlash has seen far more of the Charlie Hebdo cartoons and new ones published than ever before. published in papers all over the world who before refrained from such things. The solidarity will not last as the memory of this event fades but you will find fewer apologists out there for sure.

The end result will be increased islamophobia.

Sure, if you're wealthy and you have a chauffeur, then it's great to not have to drive yourself and to not work. It's important to note that in places like the US, wealthy people have that choice - partners of wealthy people (be they men or women) can choose whether or not they wish to drive themselves, and they can choose whether or not they wish to work.

Women in places like Saudi Arabia don't get that choice. For them, not being able to work and not being able to drive is not liberating. It is, instead, a form of subjugation. It means that they have less freedom, less power. They are dependent upon their husband or family for financial support and, depending on where they live, for convenient transport. It deliberately disempowers them.

Form the perspective of 'they're getting smart' I would agree, if I was an infidel hater, I'd start targeting the ones that make noise about my backwards bullshit. No need to blow up the twin towers now, just target a few cartoonists and you've made almost the same impact.

Judging from what I know about Saudi Arabia and America, women don't want to work. A Saudi woman that wants to work is as likely as an American woman that want's to suck their husband's dickrod. And vice versa.

Abu HajibPants has a point. When that French comedian was propagating his modified nazi salute, it was whining and outrage that caused it to end. Infidel haters don't whine, they take excessive steps to stop the affront. the west is not yet prepared to meet them on these terms. a lot closer to it after this event though.

I guess that we're not going to agree on this point, but there's a really significant difference between not having to work or drive, and not being allowed to work or drive.

The latter is fine and dandy if the family are financially comfortable and if your husband and his family are nice people.

If, however, your husband doesn't earn much and and/or he is abusive or oppressive, it really, really limits a woman's options. She might be abused at home but in a society that places very little weight on women's words, what chance does she stand if she accuses him? Very little. How can she leave? If she runs away, she can't work to support herself (and potentially her children).

It clearly places women in a situation which may, at first blush, seem like it's privileged but it's actually depriving them of privilege and deliberately disenfranchising them.

Oh, this infidel label confused me. Oh yeah, that's where this drone game comes back to haunt us. We don't have a monopoly on assassination. That's also where OWS fell to shit. The original idea was to, you know, occupy Wall Street, physically tying it up and making things very inconvenient for the movers and shakers. Because they are reachable and mere humans. But then the protest got shipped off to some park and rendered harmless and irrelevant.

This Murray guy is correct, keep it about Islam because that's what it really about. American liberals and Muslims everywhere are trying hard to avoid the association to the religion, but it's wrong. When Christian activists were blowing up abortion clinics, were they doing it because they didn't like the change from old Coke to new Coke?
