Kirby Allison appreciation thread

What's the date of that video, Shooey? This article plugs New and Lingwood as the place Eddie gets his suits 'cut'.

"As we sat down, on a scorching hot London afternoon at a table just outside the shop, 2 things were immediately noticeable. The first was the elegance of the Sahakians’ attire – Edward in a tobacco suit and Panama hat, Eddie in light blue linen cut by his friends and neighbours at New & Lingwood ... "

Kirby buys the cigar bloke a bespoke suit, and l think it couldn't happen to a nicer bloke. I really like the cigar bloke, he gives off a really nice vibe.

It's a pity Kirby had to broadcast his generous gift to the world. It would have been really good if he did it quietly without anyone else knowing, that would have been really honourable. So many want to broadcast their good deeds to the world, and it is a pity.

If l was making the video l would have made it about the cigar man getting a bespoke suit, but l wouldn't mention that it was a gift. OR, l would say someone organised the suit as a gift for the cigar man and wanted to remain anonymous.

I hate it though that they made the whole process sound so excruciating pretentious and over the top. Sure, I work as a tailor so I may be biased, but it's just a very conservatively designed and cut suit with a nice but conservative fabric.
Also, Kirby roaming around the streets with a Homburg and long overcoat is peak British roleplaying

London - Scorching hot !!!!!!!!!

I really don't know what to think of Kirby any longer - he started out as some wide-eyed, folksy guy being introduced to the world of the classics, but there is some sort of evolution and devolution going on simultaneously.
He's like a movie character - A hick that suddenly came into money and is now attempting to assimilate himself into his new demographic.

He's just a guy trying to make money out of iGents. Nothing more complicated than that.

You could be right. Perhaps that's the reason behind his often odd, weird and disturbing expressions.
One of those #menswear cosplay guys who wishes he was born a hundred years ago and lived in the idyllic setting of Downton Abbey. Little did those people predict the turmoil that was coming at them in a few short years.

Kirby is a clear example of cosplay, but is there sometimes not a fine line between cosplay and dressing well?
Perhaps if we get into the realm of certain defined 'styles ' such as Ivy then the shouting 'look at me! ' sadness becomes obvious

A preview of Kirby's new adventure. He goes down to Cuba and rides in yank tanks with the boys, and yes, he films it all of course.

Kirby is really living the sartorial mans dream. One bespoke order this week, another bespoke order next fortnight; it goes on and on, and he films it all in his travels around the world. Good on him for living the life he wants and for showing us his bespoke journey. I reckon he is addicted though, but at least it is not watches.

Here is his third bespoke suit commission from Kent, Haste and Lachter in only a short period of time.

Kirby gets prepared for the coronation of the King and gets Lobb bespoke opera pumps made. The whole affair is a bit cringey with the Texan Kirby going on like he does, but it is Kirby's eccentricities that make him interesting; you never know what he is going to get up to next. I think Kirby is a bit of an old romantic.

Kirby is also on GanJing World.

Get over it man.
He’s a complete fraud who wishes he was living a century ago and spends all his time and money cosplaying his lifestyle based on that. It’s laughable that you are so taken in by him but you were also taken in by another shallow, rich, fraudulent and self-aggrandizng American full of hot air so maybe it’s not surprising.

Looking at how he walks in his videoes, hitting the gym and do some compound movements with a proper coach, wouldn't do any harm.

The Foo?

This is an enjoyable video made by Kirby, Tony Gaziano rises to the occasion yet again. All Tony's videos are excellent. Once again Kirby has collar gap, and l suspect it is probably a Savile Row tailor as many of those guys make suits with collar gaps.

Just one glimpse of Kirby's collar gap at it's worst (off the side of his neck [really bad sign] and off the back of his neck), but all throughout the video his coat doesn't sit well on his neck.

Here is the video. Have only flicked through it so far, but it seems good.

Also, look at the great pattern matching on Tony's `Edward Sexton' coat.

The proper word for this would be grandilocuent?

This guy could be best friend of the other coast guy suited with Napoleon hats and so on...

Kirby at the championships. 32:51 to the end is good. Talks about the old competition shoes 100 years ago and shows a 100 year old John Lobb sample.

Kirby is on his way to becoming `the shoo daddy'. He finally makes his way to BIG Johnny Lobb, shoemaker to big daddies.

Kirby always chooses tailors with collar gaps. Big names don't = perfection.

Here is the secret no igents like to talk about........

The collar gap club
Henry Poole collar gaps:

Kirby with his usual collar gap. His Poole tweed also has a gap that can be seen from time to time with little movement.

My tailor has had to fix numerous Savile Row suits with collar gaps, he explained to me why so many of those suits have the problem. Big names don't ensure great tailors. Great tailors must be able to fit a suit to the neck properly, but these guys can't.

I think collar gaps are being built into suits these days. It’s more or less ubiquitous when I see people in suits IRL or online.

Just a quick flick through this video to observe Kirby's panama hat.

Kirby doesn't understand panamas and how to wear a hat. He does the snap down at the back and the front. Suits certain guys, but this look makes Kirby look goofy.

Kirby also wears the brown hat band. I considered that idea too, but the top hat guys said definitely don't do it.

I understand the temptation to wear a brown band with a bone suit with brown shoes etc, but panamas are a classic, especially the montecristi; the ultimate sophistication is the traditional black band. Doesn't quite look right with a brown band.
Kirby - panama 3.jpg

Someone might have told Kirby he looked silly with the brim snapped down at the front and back, because in these scenes Kirby wears his panama to much better effect with the snap down at the front and the back snapped up. He goes from goofy to looking more sophisticated. Now that's how he should wear his hat.

Now the poor old cigar man isn't a hat guy, that is quite obvious. Look at his wonky brim. He may have brought the hat with him on the plane, but no excuse: he could have steamed his brim or used a hat case. He has an o.k suit, but his wonky brim says it all, a complete fail, no idea. No sharp sophisticated look, just an old hobo hillbilly look; does him no favours. It is all about the details.

Kirby wears his Divij bespoke dinner suit, but as usual with Kirby, he chooses makers that do collar gaps. His recent cigar video gala dinner shows his collar hanging off his neck all night. Ironically, Kirby's rtw suit above fits much better around the neck than his bespoke.

Kirby's collar gap 1 - similar position to the other chap, yet the other bloke has no collar gap however Kirby has a gap.

pulls off the back, but even worse it pulls off the sides. A big no no.

Divij himself also has the same type of collar gap. The young bloke hasn't learnt how to fix the problem, but l hope he does one day. Good luck to him.

I have an entire file of collar gaps. It just reminds me to be careful not to buy into hype. Kirby does it, Hugo does it, and that other bloke with the large blog does it.
