Music Of The Moment

150th anniversary of the Paris Commune and the takeover of the city by the socialist Communards in the aftermath of French defeat in the Franco Prussian war.

I love searching everyday for new musical talent, in particular, brass players. This girl is a rippa.

I discovered this girl last night. She was 10 years old when she played jazz trumpet for Winton Marsalis. A prodigy.

Here she is at 11. Tops.

Damn she is good.

I went to school with one of these blokes and years later they practiced just down from where I worked in Melbourne and I used to join in their jams. Before they even had a gig let alone records. In 1973 they opened for the Stones at Kooyong, on a very very hot day, even for Australian summer, and I got to go backstage. And.. Guess what. No I never even saw any Stones backstage let alone hung with Mick and Keith.

This bloke plays the biggest of the horns, and quite well for such a big one.

Maybe Fwiffo Fwiffo and Arnathor Arnathor know Go For a Soda from the classic rock stations. It's a really good cover. They are called Toque. I'm not lying. Four "unknown" Canadians playing for the likes of Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators , Kelly Clarkson, Alice Cooper, Shiny Twat, doing covers of Canadian Bands.

Here is the original

Shooey, what do you think of Morrison?

I’ve only heard him in radio or tv, never attended a live concert.

Ive always thought he was too showy and not subtle. Vince Jones is much more my taste.

James used to be really really showy, and still is, but he has mellowed with age. James can do it all: he can play a great tasteful melody, he can play in all styles and have great sound. He can't play the really high notes like some of the great trumpet players, and he is not as legendary as some of the greats, but he is not too far off. He is still very respected and decent. He wouldn't be playing with the greats like Marsalis and Sandoval if he wasn't up to scratch.

You hear James playing after 4 minutes in the above link and you hear his maturity. He used to try so hard, and it sounded hard and not always musical, and sometimes disjointed; but now it is all effortless and it flows.

I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I'm there with her in Ensenada
And I'm here in Echo Park
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I'm sittin' here playing solitaire
With my pearl-handled deck
The county won't give me no more methadone
And they cut off your welfare check
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
Carmelita hold me tighter
I think I'm sinking down
And I'm all strung out on heroin
On the outskirts of town
