Random Questions & Thoughts

Okay now I get people posting about the tragedy in Gaza.

You were a coach/facilitator in one of our executive coaching sessions. Why do I want to hear your opinions on LinkedIn about Palestinians? You can talk about the uni you were helping, the startups you were board member for, your training exercises and whatever services you want to shill but I really don't need someone to repeat stuff I already in the news every day on LinkedIn. I'm not illiterate.

Are people happier when they live closer to the equator? More sunlight. Consistent amount of daytime versus night time. Temperate weather.

Real estate is too expensive in IL. For what I’d pay for a 2br in Tel Aviv I can buy a villa in Puglia.
You have school-aged kids, yeh? Is this going to be more of a vacation home? Or will they remote school or board?

My oldest is done with college this coming May, my youngest is in 10th grade. We want to buy and renovate now, and start slowly spending more time there until she’s done w HS.

Do 5 year old kids like dark chocolate? They ran out of green Christmas tree milk chocolates at the local patisserie. It still weirdly looks green.

My brother's wife has Wuhan again and one of his kids got kicked out of school because he (probably) has it. This will be a fun Christmas.

This is great. The kid only enjoyed 2 years and a bit on Earth and has had it twice now.

I'm not sure what I like - 0c with wind chill or 9c with British amounts of rain and wind. Neither seems appealing.

Why are those the only 2 options?

Because those are the only two options facing me. Misty light drizzle where it's so foggy you can hardly see the tops of any building >20 floors at 8c. Alternated with 8c and constant 10mm-15mm rain.

At the beginning of 2024, it is (normally) the final dip below 0c (to -2c) and it usually stays there for a good 8-10 weeks not unlike a longer version of what happens in Munich. Ice accumulates, snow accumulates, and burnt out cigarettes and rubbish accumulate until a big spring rain washes them away.

We don't all live in Bari.

I know the feeling. London weather can be soul crushing.
I thought you were choosing between two locations

Seeking salvation through gospel choir.

My view from above afforded me a good look at this filipina's cleavage.

I was at a classical music concert last night and I have a pet peeve with people clapping in between movements.

In a one movement piece like Tchaikovsky's Fatum there was a rest, not even movement change, and some girl screams "Amaaazing!!!!" in the hall. Why? Do we want your opinion? Are you entitled to one? The lack of respect for performers and falling of standards is deplorable.

I happened to be standing in for my father who couldn't make it to the concert with my mother. During intermission I gave up on getting a refreshment and bumped into one of those bimbo bartenders down the street from me. Her date kept trying to get me to go out with them afterwards for drinks even after I said I had to escort my mother home. He shoved this drink in front of me and said come on let's do a three some date. I can never escape.

That's pretty much everyone's pet peeve at those venues, and even worse they just love talking about it and informing everyone around them about their pet peeve. It's nauseating nonsense.

I just came back from an interview with the leader the third place party in parliament.

During question period a woman stood up and started moaning and screaming about the plight of Palestinians, how the political party hasn't done anything to stop genocide, etc. etc. etc. When asked to sit down she said she had rights.

Why does she have rights to express herself over the rights of others to listen? What about the rights of people who do not have to listen to the 9999 years of occupation these poor bastards have suffered?

Last time I was at this university there was an interview with the local mayor and it was only one person. The moderator controlled him and then he was asked to leave. This time they got a bit smarter by having different people in different sections stand up and protest and sneaking in their signs ...underneath their hijabs or in their panties or something.

Said woman then criticised this isn't a democracy because she is being silenced. She probably missed the part where in a Westminster system the third place party has jack all influence in terms of power to do anything. Coming from a sh*thole country where you have autocratic dictators can do that.

The most hilarious thing was they were finally escorted out - Q&A finished - and the organiser was trying to thank everyone for their patience and say they put in controls but it's not perfect. One more idiot started moaning how making people leave and not express themselves (fully) is undemocratic. The organiser tried to say universities attract strong opinions and this idiot actually cited this is what happened during the Vietnam War. If these people have such strong convictions, where were they after Sept 11? Okay, maybe they are too young. Did they volunteer in 2015 against ISIS?

Too many people think citizenship and permanent residency when immigrating to another country is a right. It's not. It's earned.

Due for another fast and blood test on Friday. I already dropped to 66kg when I did the last fast for the ultrasound. I never recovered the weight so I'm afraid I will dip even lower this time. That's 3kg gone since New Year's.

My neighbours down the hall from me hung up the letters "Party Time" on their door. Should I put concierge/security on speed dial for the inevitable noise and disturbance?

Thats just weird - why put such a tacky crass sign up

I'm anti-social?

I only know them as the people on our floor who get delivery of Wal-mart (probably UberEats) and the delivery people often leave the reusable blue cloth bags outside their door. Sometimes for the better part of a day. I hope there wasn't anything perishable.

I live in a lower middle class building.

Technically condominium by laws say you can't hang anything - including a Christmas wreath - on the exterior side of the door because it's part of the common area. This is because you shouldn't impose your religion on others. Funny they have a Christmas tree in the lobby and Santa come by for the kids every year - sponsored by building management.

well go introduce yourself and ask.

I came back early to drop off my bag to go to an alumni dinner and a man in an overcoat and a portfolio type bag was waiting outside. A blonde woman with a short bob, big varsity type sweat shirt and nothing underneath opened the door. Maybe I should check Leolist.

Latvia reintroduces military conscription for men aged 18 to 27 - one year of service. If your country conscripted you, would you serve?

Lovely - another blood test. For cholesterol, glucose, every type of liver marker, hepatitis. I should just get a recurring VIP card for the blood test place.

I'm hosting a family lunch for this coming weekend. It's pilgrim harvest holiday weekend. I booked one of the party rooms in my building, signed all the forms and put down a deposit cheque for damages. I assembled a menu on Friday and made tweaks today for 3 seniors, 3 adults and 2 small kids.

I just sent it out this morning and I'm expecting people to say you didn't respect my low fat, low cholesterol, diabetic/pre-diabetic friendly, can only eat soft foods (teeth), no raw, no smoked, no lamb, nothing fishy, no chunky tomatoes (texture), no spices (hot or too many herbs), nothing too oily, I only eat white meat, no processed meat, no alcohol, no bitter, no sour, not too salty dietary preferences. The only saving grace is my brother's kid doesn't have gluten and dairy issues anymore.

I expect I will be then inundated with requests to make my life easier because someone can bring takeaway Thai food, Indian food, Russian borscht, a bucket of KFC and all sorts of things that have nothing to do with the theme of the menu set out. What's worse when people leave said party room all of this will be left for me because it's going too much work to bring leftovers back home or I have another pilgrim dinner after this or I don't eat leftovers.

Try running an institution that supplies food - hospital, aged care home, university caf etc.

People whinge about everything - not withstanding, its 5 x better than what they usually eat.

let them eat at McD. They don't deserve your hard work.

When my brother's kid was no dairy and no gluten - to the point where I prepare his stuff and then clean up the kitchen to prepare regular food to avoid cross contamination - I said the cook who runs the UN canteen has an easier audience to cater to.

They complain about the taste I assume, not the nutritional value.

It may well be country specific but here those institutions/kitchens are rather firmly in the hands of ecotrophologists and the like, who know everything about food but just can't cook tasty meals.
