Shaving, Skin, and Body Care

I just bought 2 Semogue Owners Club brushes, one in badger and one in boar, and a bowl of Cella soap to try out off of Amazon.
 
I use organic shampoo and cheap disposable bic razors in the shower, gets the job done.
 
I need a soap that actually has some glycerin in it in order to shave. I use a DE safety razor and Astra blades, some basic brush and prorasso 'soap'.
 
Tried out the straight finally. I completely hacked up my face. Good times. Man, that right sideburn was next to impossible! I was peaking through the fingers holding the razor.

Also tried out the new Cella cream today. Really couldn't get that great of a lather out of it on my face. Tried moving it to my hand and had a bit better luck, but that feels like a bowl latherer. Need more time with it to be sure.
 
What Straight razor did you buy? How difficult is it compared to a DE safety?
 
It's definitely more work to master as you have to get the angle correct, but I wouldn't say it's more "difficult".

Grand Potentate Grand Potentate , that's interesting on the Cella. The classic stuff leathers like a dream. I've been pretty much just using DR Harris soaps lately.

Yeah, it'll take some work, but I'm going to keep at it. I've got about 15 blades left and I might as well use them up.

I haven't lathered a cream in a long while so that's probably it. I'm used to just scrubbing the soap puck right up. How do you like that Dr. Harris?

I'm a fan. Easiest lathering hard soap I have ever had by far.

I actually broke down and bought a Harris wood bowl. The pucks fit nicely to start but start to spin about halfway through if you don't keep remashing the puck down.

One of the reasons I like Pre de Provence. That little metal tin is the tits.
 
The Merkur HD slant has long been my preferred razor. After an incident that left me shaving left-handed for awhile, I went to cartridge razors. It's been tricky coming back to safety razors for the finishing pass.
Today I accidentally grabbed my Edwin Jagger, which I never really liked as I prefer the slant head for finding and maintaining the right angle. It worked perfectly. I don't know whether to ascribe this to technique, mild aggressiveness of the razor, or just possibly a sharper blade.
 
My shaving kit is: 'Standard' Razor, cheap blades, the brush is a badger hair, I use Proraso soap and Clubman Vanilla AS. I want to use up the after shave and move onto to something more natural - coconut oil?

Is that plastic? Never seen such a thing.

One thing I've always wondered is if there is such a thing as a pivoting head double-edge razor. I've been at it for fifteen years and keeping that blade angle around the corners is still way too tricky.
 
It has a decent heft to it, I could probably use better blades though. I'm using Astra blades and I'm not thrilled with them but I have 100 to go through. Any reccys?

I'm pretty much a Personna Lab guy myself these days, though it's so individual it's hard to say. Gillette Blues and Blacks are solid, Personna Meds, Feathers...

If you wanna try some other blades I might have some, not sure. Have most away that weren't Personna.
 
That would be awesome, but I don't mind buying some if people have positive reviews. I know Feathers are supposed to be good, never heard of Personna Lab

Scope badger&blade, they will give you more reviews than you could ever get through. Personna is a huge company, makes a lot of other brands in their factory. The labs and meds are a top quality blade.
 
I used up my Omega soap, which was pretty good. I bought a couple Caswell Massey shave soaps for dirt cheap at their factory sale, despite them not having a good reputation in the shaving department. I'll withhold final judgment until a few more lather attempts, but I;m underwhelmed thus far.

Proraso soap is one of my favorites. As for after shave I use this:
3 parts aloe juice
2 parts witch hazel
1 part everclear
a few drops of orange oil, a few drops lime peel oil

Fill a four-oz bottle and shake before using.
 
Tempted to try the DE again, since it languishes in a drawer somewhere. But I have to get blades, and that's it's own rabbit hole.
 
So I'm running out of my Pre de Provence soap and aftershave and am interested in a change. Thinking about trying out a cream or something more sensitive in a soap. Any thoughts? The Proraso sensitive line is interesting, but I have the pre-shave and I think its pretty worthless. Also interested in recommendations for pre-shave oil if anyone likes a particular brand. I have Pacific, and its good, but I'd like to branch out.
