Shaving, Skin, and Body Care

I have hundred plus razors, 300 to 400 shaving soaps and creams. Not too many After Shaves, probably around 50 to 60. I have Feather AC straights, genuine straights, DE's, cart system razors, injectors, Wecks, Durham Duplex.
I usually use an Injector and a Wilkinson Sword Profile Royale - I have 5 or 6, I have lost count.
You're well tooled up then!

My current favourite soaps are TFS made croaps for Mondial. I do enjoy a TOBS cream.

It's definitely too much, even with some rotation the most soaps and creams are going to lose their properties on the long time.

What do those acronyms stand for? (I really hate acronyms)
If I knew what I know now when I started I would probably only have around 5 items...

Yes, in shaving you have to experiment a lot, about razor/blade combination and about shaving brush/soap/cream. I did it as well, but I always finish a soap or a cream before trying a new one

Preparing for nuclear Armageddon?

Have you considered that the clean shaven look might not be so popular in the aftermath?

Though if it is important to you then good luck. Also soap could be traded for other items. Take care not to give away where your stuff is hidden though.

You sir have a problem.

The second acronym is Taylor of Old Bond Street

I just love the scent of Tabac, Old Spice, Brut and Blue Stratos. Aqua Velva is not too bad either.

For skin conditioning nothing beats Lotion Opaline or Speick, with Proraso just behind.

I have the Floids, Myrsols, and Pitralons.
I have La Toja, Denim and Hattric and many more.

What's your favourite alcohol aftershave?
Please no balms...

The discontinued James Bronnley Original and Ted Baker by Boots aftershaves were also great.

I’m sure it will be fine.

Their Rose shaving cream is delightful
As is the Grapefruit.

Today I followed your suggestion and bought Taylor's Grapefruit Shaving Cream. It smells delightfully.

I also took a free sample of Treet Platinum blades. Has anybody tried them?

They are decent quality and get the job done. I also got a freebie pack when I bought my Mühle R89 razor. More or less comparable to Astra green blades, although not quite as sharp and dull more quickly.

Used today, I would confirm your judgement. Pretty good result, but some more time required. Certainly inferior to Astra (green) and Personna.

Their Royal Forest is exceptional, so this week I topped up with some more shaving cream with added aftershave and balm. Also got the Tobacco Leaf and Aloe Vera shaving cream. The aftershaves are alcohol free though, but relatively inexpensive, so worth a punt.

I like to layer my post shave regime with aftershave and the same branded balm. If not, a Clinique Post Shaver Healer or simple Nivea balm on top.

Use Clinique Maximum Hydrator daily and once or twice a week, I will cover the whole face with a non-fragrance Vaseline maximum repair/hydrator cheap as chips and essential. You need saturate every now and again.

Tried Biotherm over the years and Kiehl's recently, but as my eldest say's too much added perfume to be considered seriously as skin care. So ditched all of them.

Avocado was a good TOBS cream and Rose too. I stopped buying TOBS as the price seemed to double.

Trumpers used to offer a sample pack of all their products for about a fiver. Worth a try especially if you like after shave balms.

Palmolive shaving stick is good value for 50p. Boots used to offer a cheap own label soap( and shaving cream) but now stock Wilkinson which is useless.

Mitchell’s wool fat is good if you just buy the refill and don’t bother with the porcelain holder. Prorarso Green is good value - probably really good value on the continent.

That’s not a reasonable price. When they hit £10 it was too much.
You'll be glad to know then, the 150g shaving creams are now between £10.95 and £13.95 for the over priced organic one.

Tried the Royal Forest aftershave and balm today, evidently there is something taking the place of alcohol. Good stuff, slight pepper with a base of amber and vanilla. Fresh, but in a mature way. Smells exactly like the shaving cream. Top notch.

They will charge what the market will bear.

This is much better value:-
Just put in the plastic Wilkinson shaving soap dish. You can throw away the Wilkinson soap or use it for hand washing.

That said Palmolive shaving stick is the best value of the lot.

It's always relative and subjective whether a price is correct (that is if one is willing to pay it). Taylor's prices are still much cheaper than Trumper's, Dr Harris's and Castle Forbes's.
Do you know a valid alternative at lower prices?

Mondrial is good value for money.
Cyril Salter and Simpsons creams are not that expensive. I notice they are giving away the Vulfix Rose cream on the Simpson site. T&H No 10 from Creighton is also inexpensive.

Well I just ordered 3 tins of Vulfix Rose cream. It has just been discontinued.
It's only £3.95. I have the Simpson Luxury Lime which performs fine.

Thank you for reporting.

I can get Cyril Salter creams here in Berlin, they are a little cheaper than Taylor's, but not as good in my opinion.

I don't know instead Simpson's and Vulfix's, but at those prices they are tempting me. Have you already experience with them?

I have the Simpsons Luxury Lime. I have used it a few times. I don't think any of the British creams are poor except Coates.

I used to use a lot of Lab products, but tbh they are fairly pedestrian for the price

I've only used their electric razor pre-shave before and that was pretty long lasting, in fact, I've still got half a bottle of the second one I bought.

My eldest is considering a career in dermatology and so is into all the contents of creams, etc. So I lined up some after shave balms I was considering: Nivea, Clinique, Biotherm and Lab Series. The result, based on the ingredients, the Lab Series was the best in terms of being non-fragranced and quality content. Nivea was cheap and cheery full of perfume, Biotherm was perfurmed up and Clinique was non-vegan with some corners cut compared to the Lab Series. Naturally, the Lab Series was twice the price of the Clinique.

i'm not sure about the european market but here in the states they were introduced by Estee Lauder back in the late 80's and were very popular. but much like the rest of Estee's products, their quality has gone WAY down hill over the past decade or so. now they're basically just junk.
