Shaving, Skin, and Body Care

i'm not sure about the european market but here in the states they were introduced by Estee Lauder back in the late 80's and were very popular. but much like the rest of Estee's products, their quality has gone WAY down hill over the past decade or so. now they're basically just junk.
I can only state what my eldest advised: based on the ingredients, the LAB Series is the post-shave balm to get. I will be giving it go tomorrow after the TOB Tobacco Leaf shaving cream and aftershave.

The Clinique Maximum 72 hour hydrator is good, the blue one, not oily and keeps you moisturised well into the evening. Lasts forever too, you only need a little bit.

Well I just ordered 3 tins of Vulfix Rose cream. It has just been discontinued.
It's only £3.95. I have the Simpson Luxury Lime which performs fine.
They have arrived. A pleasant Rose scent without any colouring.

Well I just shaved continuing my Lavender experience. DR Harris Lavender cream and Caldey Island Lavender AS.The AS is fleeting but pleasant.

Forth shave today with a Treet Platinum blade, still pretty sharp, very good result. Surely recommendable.

Was up to the sixth shave on the Feather blade today, thought I might be pushing it, but it delivered. We'll see if 7 is a lucky number tomorrow.

The Tobacco Leaf aftershave isn't as potent as the Royal Forest, the shaving cream is good, not even a wiff of razor burn. Did follow up with the LAB Series after shave balm, but wasn't really needed. It's a very light and clean experience, especially for one with Tobacco in the title.

What DE razor are you using?

I use either the Merkur 23c with closed comb or the Merkur 25c with open comb (more often lately).

I also have Muehle, but they are too heavy.

If you like Muehle (as I said, they are pretty heavy), there's a novelty: the R41 GRANDE n stainless steel (130 EUR).
I haven't bought into the expensive stainless steel DE razor craze. I might have an Ikon stainless steel handle, that I received with a new SE razor.

I haven't actually shaved with a Mühle before. I bought the EJ Kelvin in 2015, and King C Gillette in 2019/20, so I have been curious about the R89 head, especially as someone has posted that the EJ head is made of inexpensive materials. An R89 replacement head is only £17.00 and can be used with the other two handles.

I've shaved with a lot of different DE razors over the years, and I've yet to find one that beats a 50s red tip Gillette if you like heft. Has been my daily for almost a decade now.

good luck finding one of those

I started DE shaving in 1991 with a Wilkinson Sword Classic Flip Top, so I never started with a EJ, Mühle, Merkur, or even a Chinese DE razor. I have a collection of Schicks, Wilkinson Sword's and Gillettes. For the majority of the last 15 plus years I have used a Schick Krona when DE shaving.

Fortunately I don't have too. Rest of you fuckers are outta luck though.

I have a standard 1950s Gillette (silver tip) that I'd happily pass along however

I was just tidying up and decided to put all of my after shave lotions in one tub. I have half another tub full of AS's but mixed with shaving soap and cream.

What's in your AS rotation?

I have hundred plus razors, 300 to 400 shaving soaps and creams. Not too many After Shaves, probably around 50 to 60. I have Feather AC straights, genuine straights, DE's, cart system razors, injectors, Wecks, Durham Duplex.
I usually use an Injector and a Wilkinson Sword Profile Royale - I have 5 or 6, I have lost count.
I have just packed away the latest acquisitions of shaving soaps and creams.

The one and only:

Tüff Rasierwasser Sensitiv (parfumfrei) 100 ml in neuer Aufmachung ! : Amazon.de: Drogerie & Körperpflege

(don't use any after shave, but do have a bottle)

I've pretty much mastered the art of using a safety razor now. No razor burn or cuts.

It's a case preparing the skin, getting the lather right on the shaving cream and figuring out which direction the blade can travel on your skin without causing razor burn, nicks, or redness afterwards. That takes a couple of months and maybe some of that is your skin getting use to it. You need aftershave and balm too. And some places you need to go over 3 times. It also takes a bit more time.

What I like about it your face and neck feels double fresh and clean afterwards, phenomenally so. But compared to the modern several bladed razor and electric razor I find the beard growth comes back a lot quicker. You can easily shave twice a day, if you do it early morning. I've read that's because a safety razor only cuts the protruding hair, whereas the other options pull some of the hair out of it's follicle as well.

shooey lets keep the clothing threads to their own devices and we can leave all the other accoutrements of the full big daddy lifestyle to their own devices.

I need to put a new beard trimmer on my Father’s Day wishlist. Can google consumer reviews, etc, but if anyone has a stand-out favorite then let me know. Just had to trim it down pretty short (72hr stubble) and maneuver around the tricky bit easily. I’m not shaving my balls or anywhere else with this.

How short do you cut it? Would a bare clipper blade be too short? Could you use a clipper with a guard?

I usually cut it to 1/4” or shorter each Sunday and then just tidy up the edges during the week.

Do you mean like hair clippers? I’ve used beard clippers for years - some barely lasted a year, but the most recent Panasonic lived for three or four.

I use WAHL - its what most hairdressers use - reliable - well built - lots of models. You need lots of "guards" to get down to day old stubble look or as long as you like. I do stubble look in summer - trim every 3rd day or so if I'm not going out - winter I let my freak flag fly and go longer but still trim every 2nd day. I hate scraggly beards and especially hate neck beards - uuurgh.

yes. there's really no fundamental difference between a hair clipper and a beard trimmer other than the size. do you need it to be cordless or corded? would a blade with a guard work for you or do you prefer bare metal?

I’ll check out hair trimmers. I thought the blades were a bit bigger and would be harder to work around the various corners and curves.

Corded is fine, I don’t need to travel with it. All the beard trimmers I’ve used have a guard - the main difference being external guards (like the Wahl posted by FX above) and internal/adjustable guards that you dial to size, like on this:

a Wahl Peanut is one of the most popular small trimmers with hairstylists. half the price of the manscape tool. the guards are easy to use.
