"Lee Eun-ju of South Korea and Hong Un-jong of the North took a quick smiling snapshot during the training period before the start of the Games."

Is she planning to defect? With that smile I'm sure she's heading straight to the DPRK equivalent of the gulag when she returns.

It's the same. It tests the same. No pollution.

Whilst I loved the two francophone synchro divers today, they are well built. Québécois dairy did something.

Instead I looked at Great Britain:

Make up does a lot. She must have never been in a pub.

And then even though they were last place, I am killing myself I didn't took uber to be east end at the pan am games to see aquatic sports.

i could see it being hard to pick up in the lights at night like a high fly ball into the sun when you're playing baseball.

The volleyball they're playing with is more predictable with spin and the spectator seating blocks a lot of the wind. I'd recommend a traditional non-spinning skyball serve to cause more "float" action, if he must.

The sky serve was much more common in the 20th century before the court was shortened a meter in both directions.

I play on an "old school" court in California so I'll still employ a sky serve from time to time.

Some really shitty weather today. Boating and tennis events cancelled. Apparently nothing will stop these fucking bikers though.

and there's #21!

I love Phelps and I love the US, but I feel like the game is rigged. There are so many damn medals you can win in swimming. It favors wealthy people with access to pools and favors northern Europeans and their subcutaneous layer of fat. So no matter what, the "most decorated Olympian" will almost always be a white swimmer from a wealthy country.

LelandJ LelandJ you're a volleyball guy, what the hell is the point of this serve?

That's usually the way I serve, especially against more inexperienced players. You can usually get enough spin on it to cause a really unpredictable flight path and return. And my shoulder's fucked, so it helps with that. Old man blues.

normally I'd agree with you but this year is playing out a bit differently. whether steroids are the cause of this shift or not, I cannot say, but already a woman from Hungary has taken 3 golds, a woman from Spain has won a gold, an Aussie man has won gold, a Khazak man has won gold, and a whole host of other nations have won silver and bronze medals.

what happened here?

Short story - About a year or so ago, I tore my cuff while attempting pushups.

Long story - One of the stupider moments of my thirties. I had worked up to being able to do 100 pushups in five minutes with my thumbs touching. Not crazy impressive, but given my skinny physique and long arms, I was pretty proud.

I did it right before I went out. Then I went out, got drunk and mentioned this as my workout, and was challenged to a pushup contest. I made it to 78 (after the other guy had quit and I should've too) and felt something give. Played it off, but couldn't even push open a door for a few weeks. Didn't want to do the surgery (the recovery for that is ridiculous). It's gotten a little better, and I'm back on the pushup program, but am only up to 68 regular ones (although I have to do them in a way that it's mostly tris and no shoulders - elbows brushing my sides, hands in front of my pecs).

Not surprised.

Our own volleybro.

I was downstairs at the pub with my work mate checking out the men's tennis doubles game. He said, "Who are these Spaniards beating our Canadians?"

I said, "Uhm, one of them is Rafael Nadal."

"Who?"

There's no way out of the fifteen posters we have on this site we ended up with two fucking male volleyball players.

Favela chic

"At the Favela Experience hostel, Montrealer Jessica McGovern concedes her roughly $80-a-night stay in Vidigal — even without running water for a shower in three days — has been 'a luxury version of favela.'
...
A recent search for Airbnb listings in Vidigal showed 252 properties, with renters catering to 'Olimpiadas' — guests seeking budget options for the Rio 2016 Games."

Let's do a road trip and stay at Airbnb properties in the favela! I'm bringing black tie - anyone else in?

LelandJ LelandJ the US men's volleyball beat the #1 seeded Brazilians

Don't remind me.

But it was the best match of the entire Olympics so far.

Gold is anyone's taking right now.

Interestingly on the men's beach the Cuban team who no one knows (aren't allowed to play professionally and make any money abroad) swept the toughest pool and may win Gold.
